994 (12) 594 48 40 On 10 March 1873, a comedy by national classic M. F. Akhundzade,
“A Vizier of the Lankaran Khanate”, was staged in Azerbaijan for the
first time. This was when the foundations of the Academic Drama
Theatre were laid. The theater initially acted in the form of individual
troupes, but in 1919 they were joined together and received the status of a State Theater which has been preserved to this day.

The Azerbaijan State Theater of Musical Comedy is one of
the biggest musical theaters of the republic. The theater has
been playing a major part in Azerbaijan’s cultural life since the
1940s. It has contributed a lot to the history of the opera and
comedy genre, which appeared in Azerbaijan in the early 20th
century. Today the theater features well-known Azerbaijani
actors and stages both classical and modern musicals.

The Azerbaijan State Puppet Theatre first built in 1910.
Used in later years as a cinema theatre and an agricultural
exhibition hall, the building was granted to the city puppet
theatre in 1965. Already a few generations of young Baku
residents enter the world of fairy tales and start enjoying
the magic of the theatre.

that time, the theater has produced over 70 productions.

The construction of the building started in April, 2005 &
the official opening of the International Mugam Center took
place on December 27, 2008. It is one of the Heydar Aliyev
Foundation`s important projects
to protect national moral values and popularize them in the
world. The design of the building was
based on elements and shapes of Tar, Azerbaijani musical
instrument used in performing Mugam. The concert hall fits
350 people. The center also has a club, restaurant, study
halls and record studios.

28 Cinema is the biggest cinema theater in the republic
in terms of seats. The theater features six cinema halls
which enable to diversify its programme to the maximum
extent. The cinema theater programme is quite diverse and
interesting, made up of world premieres and latest movies;

Turkish etc) is going to be arranged on a regular basis.
