Hollywood comes to Cape Cod this year as Heritage Museums & Gardens features CUT! Costume and the Cinema. Make like a squirrel at The Adventure Park at Heritage, or go automotive in our exhibit of classic American cars. Explore outdoor sculpture installations that take their cue from nature in Natural Threads, and do it all in one day. Come explore what makes Heritage Museums & Gardens one of the premier destinations on the Cape — from our acclaimed gardens and gardening workshops by expert horticulturists, to fun family events, a working carousel, and programs you can’t find anywhere else. Costume and the Cinema April 16–October 10 Who will you be wearing to a red-carpet opportunity to see movie costumes worn by your favorite stars? Forty-three costumes are displayed with props, cinematic backdrops, and film clips of some of your favorites. Be transported to the streets of Paris, through the Caribbean, and to Venice as you view costumes worn by Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Maggie Smith, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey, Jr., Keira Knightley, and more. The exhibition tour is organized by Exhibits Development Group, USA in cooperation with Cosprop, Ltd., London, England. Driven to Collect April 16–October 10 Gentlemen, start your engines! This exhibit of cars showcases our nationally significant collection. In the Collector’s Corner: a 1934 Derby Bentley reminiscent of the cars, time periods, and luxury represented in CUT! Costume and the Cinema, a 1955 MG TF 1500, and a special display of maps made from recycled license plates, created by artist Stephen Blyth. Join Heritage Hydrangea Curator Mal Condon to learn how to selectively prune your plants to improve vigor, increase bloom density, control height, and enhance ornamental value. He will share his personal collecting journey and discuss his construction of the engine for his 2002 Ultima Can-Am racecar, which will be on display exclusively for this program. This car has won its division and an Award of Excellence two years running at the World of Wheels Annual Auto Show in Boston. Jack will also discuss how the Bentley, a luxury car, compares to the Ultima, a speedy racecar, and what drove him to collect two such different vehicles. John Di Stefano, fashion designer, historian, and Professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, will discuss the evolution of on-screen fashion from the early movies of the 1920s to modern-day blockbusters, examining the role that fashion moguls and high-end designers have played in creating the Hollywood scene. During the driving simulator training, teens and other new drivers face a number of scenarios based on real-world examples, educating participants on how to anticipate hidden hazards, react to the road, and avoid accidents. Participants also complete the online portion of the curriculum at www.DistractU.com and make a safe-driving pledge in order to complete the training. The Distractology 101 driving simulator, based on Arbella-funded research conducted with UMass Amherst, travels to high schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, offering 45 minutes of simulated distracted driving to each participant.
