4. Learn how to multi-task and become adept at adding dimensional color
to a client’s base shade. Applying strands of highlights and lowlights WHILE
the single-process retouch is on the root area will change your reputation
as a colorist forever.
5. Perfect the “finish.” Color-treated hair will never look its best unless it
is correctly styled. Never let a client leave with wet hair or with hair that
she has blow dried herself. Apply Minardi Luxury Color Care Abundance
Volumizing Foam or Subdue Frizz Restraining Creme to maximize colortreated styles.
The Law of Color states that every color imaginable can
be formed by mixing the three primary colors: yellow, red
and blue. Mixing the three primary colors together with
specific proportions creates brown.
- Natural hair contains all three primary colors. The
primaries are present in varying amounts, creating
lighter to darker shades of haircolor.
- To refine (neutralize) a color, use its direct OPPOSITE
on the Color Wheel. Refinement is commonly known
as neutralizing color or “browning out.”

TIPS TO BUILD YOUR COLOR BUSINESS
1. Make eye contact: consult with your client, while seated at her level,
facing her, rather than looking at her through a mirror.
2. Test new colors before using them on clients. There’s nothing like doing
swatches to build your color confidence.
3. Educate your clients. Explain that correct hair care at home will enhance
the color and the condition of the client’s hair. Only Minardi Luxury

- Violet refines (neutralizes) yellow. This refinement
occurs by mixing a primary yellow and the opposing
violet.
- Violet is composed of two primaries, blue and red. In

The faded hair shaft was the result of numerous highlighting applications of a
powder lightening formula.
