THE TRADITION WHEN MOVING IN THE NEW HOUSE Between : Moving in the New House Doing Some rituals First In Order to get a blessing and Safety JAVA’S TRADITION : BOYONGAN 1. Calculate the Day and Pasaran of the couple who move into the new house Example : Husband : August, 29 1973 Woman : Dec, 21 1976 - Wednesday = 7 - Kliwon = 8 Sum = 15 Total Sum : 15+11 = 26 -Tuesday = 3 - Kliwon = 8 - Sum = 11 2. The moving date ( + ) Total sum of Husband and Wife then ( : ) with 5 => If the residue of the count is 1, 2 or 3, So, It is the “Good Day” Example : Sum Total from the couple above is 26, Then They choose Tuesday of Pon to be the Moving date. Tuesday = 3 ; Pon = 7 => 10 10 + 26 = 36 : 5 = 7 (residue = 1) => “GOOD DAY” 2. Doing Some Rituals : • Preparing : 1. Lampu ublik or Oil Lamp 2. Water which was taken from the first home 3. Clay pot which was filled with Rice and Kitchen seasoning ( onion, garlic, salt , sugar, and chili) 4. Mat 5. Pillow + bolster 6. Sapu lidi ( a broom made of such splintered ribs) 7. Entering new house with saying “Assalamualaikum” Put the mat, Pillow + Bolster and the oil lamp in the bed room Put the clay pot and Kembang Setaman into the one side of the house Cleaning arround the house side with Sapulidi Watering arround the outside of the house Putting the bubur merah and bubur putih in every corner of the new house Giving a Nasi Kotak to every neighbour 7. On the night, the house owner held a ‘Selametan’ event • ‘Selametan’ ‘Salamah’ Safe • The purpose : To ask a safety, far from the bad things or any disaster and asking for God’s Blessing • The main activity of Selametan is Praying • Tumpengan Tumpeng : A Rice which are formed like a mount and served with several dishes Phylosophy of Tumpeng • Tumpeng : Tumuju Lumpeng Directed to God (Calm and Focus) • Tumpeng has : Form like mount Strong, Firm White rice A ‘clean’ and holy intuition • Slicing Rule : 1. Slice the top part of Tumpeng first. Served for God 2. The rest is for eat together • • • The several kinds of Dishes on Tumpeng are represent the many kind sense and sensation of Live. Meaning: The Ceremony which was held to make the new building is looked “alive” and “throw away” the negative side. The Sequences of Melaspas : 1. This is represent the Tri murti (Brahma, Visnu, Iswara) Ngayaban banten ayaban and ngayaban pras pamlaspas : Giving banten and pras pejati into the sanggah surya (the high bamboo stick) •Ngayaban caru prabot : Making the stuff or other tool and device in the building holy Note: Banten: Something which are given to theGod, Monk, and People. Caru: Something which are given to Buthakala •Ngeteg-Linggih.
