Rate Policy
Terms, conditions and rates of contracts
are subject to revision by the HeraldJournal upon thirty (30) days written
notice to the advertiser.
All contracts must be in writing, signed
and dated by an authorized representative
of both the advertiser and the newspaper,
in order for the advertiser to receive
contract rate discounts. Contracts must
be signed in advance of first insertion to
qualify for discounts.
All rates subject to the addition of any
local, state or Federal taxes if imposed.
AWARENESS
Terms of Payment
Statements are due and payable on or
before the 15th day after the preceding
billing period closing date. A service
charge of 111/42%, 18% per annum, may
be added to all balances not paid with
25 days after the preceding billing period
closing date. Statement will be assumed
to have been received and correct unless
notice is given to the Herald-Journal,
within ten (10) days following the last day
of month immediately preceding. All rates
are net and non-commissionable.

PREPRINT PRINTING GUIDELINES
Publisher’s approval on pre-printed inserts of more than 40 pages and of preprints smaller than 7.5 inches by 9
inches in size, confirmation upon product inspection. Zoned inserting available by zip code / zip cluster (certain
restrictions apply).
Overall tabloid page size should not exceed 11 inches x 12 inches (132 sq. inches). Broadsheet or standard
inserts should be half folded and should not exceed 8.5 inches x 11 inches or less (94 sq. inches) when folded.
Inserts must be scheduled a minimum of 14 days prior to publication.
Inserts must be presented to production facility seven days prior to publication. Holidays may require longer
lead times.
Single sheet flyers are 132 square inches or less when laid flat and unfolded. Single sheet flyers should be at least
8 ¼ 1000 of an inch thick. Seven (7) point high bulk, 67 pound vellum bristol or heavier paper is recommended.
It is the responsibility of the advertiser to secure estimated press run figures from the newspaper or to supply
gross distribution. Inserts to be shipped, prepaid on disposable skids to the Herald-Journal production facility 200
Herald-Journal Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. We do not publish inserts on Mondays or Saturdays.

CONTRACT & COPY REQUIREMENTS
The Herald-Journal reserves the right to edit or reject any copy deemed objectionable
either in subject matter, phraseology or set-up. Initial acceptance of an ad does not commit The Herald-Journal to publish it, and publication does not constitute an agreement for
continued publication. All advertising accepted subject to availability of space.
The Herald-Journal shall not be liable for any errors appearing in published advertising. The portion of any advertisement containing an error will be republished correctly
without charge. While no advertiser is legally required to sell at an incorrectly advertised
price, the Herald-Journal, in the event of its being responsible for an error in the advertised price, will furnish the advertiser with a letter stating the price which should have
appeared in the advertisement as ordered and shall not be held responsible financially
for any error.
The advertiser and advertising agency assume liability, jointly and severally, for all
content (including text representations and illustrations) of advertisements printed and
also assume responsibility for any claims arising therefrom made against the HeraldJournal.
The advertiser and the advertising agency agree, jointly and severally, to indemnity
and hold the Herald-Journal harmless for all costs, expenses (including reasonable attorney’s fees), liabilities and damages resulting from publication of any advertisement placed
by the advertiser or the advertising agency.
Position requests will be met as far as possible. The Herald-Journal will add 25% to
the regular charge for demand position if demand position is available.
In the event of storm, fire, strike or other emergencies beyond the control of either
party, this contract shall be suspended by agreement and neither the publisher nor the
advertiser is liable for damages.
Copy set on wait-orders and not published within 30 days will be billed at cost.
Any claims or allowances for any errors must be made within sixty (60) days after
insertion.
Any advertising set to simulate news copy must include the word “Advertisement’’
at least one time, at the top of the ad. The word “Advertisement’’ must be set in at least 8
point type. A border of at least one point is required on this type of ad.
The Herald-Journal specifically does not guarantee or assume any liability whatsoever for reproduction of faulty art work.
Advertising material furnished by the advertiser will not be returned unless requested
when the advertisement is ordered.
Unless special arrangements are made, advertising materials will be held 30 days
after the last run date. The Herald-Journal shall not be responsible or does not assume
any liability for damages or loss to original printing material supplied.
