2016 Event Programme a copy of this years event
WELCOME
Welcome to Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2016, with the theme for
this year ‘Love for All’ which, sadly, became poignant earlier
this year when, in the early hours of Sunday the 12th June, one
man’s act of hatred in The Pulse Nightclub Orlando.
Our thoughts go out to all those that have been affected by
this atrocity and, this year, we have the remembrance tree
near the Stephen G Sloan Stage. So please, let us not forget
any victim of an act of homophobia / terrorism, leave a
message of support for victims in Orlando or around the world
Let us all remember people no longer with us by adding their name to the tree or write
poem to celebrate their life and love.
Across the globe, Pride Events stand as single force of solidarity, united we will stand
tall and we will be Proud. Being born Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Trans is not a life choice
and it is time to support our Brothers and Sisters, friends, co-workers and let people be
happy loving each other and love people, regardless of faith, sexuality, disability, race
or religion.
Could I also ask that as you enjoy your time at Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2016 that
you remember this year’s theme of “Love For All”. Enjoy and embrace your Pride
experience in Swindon & Wiltshire, be supportive, and, as you look out for your friends
feel free to say hi or even thanks to any of the dedicated volunteers who will be visible
throughout the great day of fun.
Don’t forget that as well as the Pride Parade and the fabulous acts in the Mayan Stage
(Bowl) we have lots going on throughout the whole park. Why not spend some time
in one of our great Community, Arts, Family or Shopping zones. Or kick back and enjoy
some of the amazing acts on the Stephen G Sloan Stage.
Wishing love for you all and I hope that you all have a happy Swindon & Wiltshire Pride.

Swindon Borough Council
It is my pleasure as Leader of the Council to offer support for
the annual Swindon and Wiltshire Pride.
As I reflect on the tragic events at Orlando earlier this year, I
am encouraged by this year’s Pride theme of “Love for all”.
We can all benefit from more tolerance, dialogue, and love.
I hope everyone who attends will have a thoroughly
enjoyable time, and you will encourage your family and
friends to come along, too.
Councillor David Renard
Leader of the Council

“As an artist, I understand how important it is
to have freedom of expression. In the same
way, I support all my LBGT brothers & sisters by
supporting the pride movement. I’m looking
forward to seeing my loyal fans and all the

DJ BURNOUT
LYDIA CHASE
Mica Paris is one of the UK’s most
respected singers with a career full
of top ten hits worldwide. In 1988, she
made an immediate impact on the
UK music scene with her international
smash ‘My One Temptation’ and
double-platinum selling album
‘So Good’, making fans and later
collaborations out of music industry
giants, such as David Gilmour, James
Morrison, Prince, Bobby Womack and
many others.
URBADEX is a EDM project by Andy Woodland, or aka Andy
Pandy, from the Swindon scene. Andy has been busy in
the studio @ solar / SWADS, making experimental beats,
soundscape’s with bizarre tunes. This is URBADEX first ever
outing, fresh from the studio. I Like the diversity of Swin/
Wilts Pride, it makes for a fun day out. Thank you to SOLAR/
SWADS, it would not be possible without you. See you all
Main Stage!
Born in Swindon my passion for electronic dance music
started in 1996, my genre initially being Trance. In around
2007 I moved on to applying what I knew about mixing
Trance to various styles of House music. I have also played
Drum N Bass on occasion. It is a massive honour to be part of
Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2016.
Powerhouse vocalist Lydia Chase 80s synth with the current
deep house trend to create a show like no other. Soaring
vocals with sassy, sexy, rock chick attitude, Lydia’s live
guarantees to have every audience on their feet with
their hands in the air! Her debut single ‘Ultimate Drive’ has
received national radio play and entertained audiences at
events all over the UK last winter.

SPIDA SENSE
KERI WHIP
Spida Sense are the musical equivalent of all good things.
Like a post foursome jazz fag or a frosty can of tramp
cider on a summer afternoon. Like ‘giving birth to an
otter’, necessary, pleasurable and potentially a bit stingy.
Guaranteed to make your undercarriages rumble for days.
Described as “incredible” by Charlie Sloth of BBC 1xtra and
with a voice “so beautiful” by Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, Keri
Whip has been taking live performance to new heights over
the past few years! Combining huge onstage energy with
award winning vocal ability, Keri has taken inspiration from
greats like Aretha Franklin and Etta James.
BAMBI has been an all-round entertainer in Swindon, London
and Bristol for a few years, singing, dancing and hosting.
Bambi has helped out with Swindon & Wiltshire Pride for
years, hosted the Bristol Drag Idol and a weekly karaoke
night at The Rose & Crown in Chippenham.

SANDRA
Sandra has been performing up and down the country and
beyond for more years than she can remember. Starting
young, her show has evolved over time and is a mix of hit
songs interspersed with sharp wit and a bit of audience
participation. In fact the more responsive the audience,
the more moist she becomes, so you are advised to keep a
damp cloth handy...
Nicolette Street is a power house performer who has it all incredible talent, sultry good looks, larger than life presence,
and voice to dream of, with the social conscience to boot.
NICOLETTE STREET
HEAT
2016 shows Nicolette making a cameo appearance

get a crowd involved. Playing live is what they enjoy the
most.
Sam is delighted to have been asked to return to host
& perform at Swindon and Wiltshire Pride 2016 after
unexpectedly hosting some of the main stage at last year’s

Burbank, a band from Wiltshire who play a variety of
unique takes on popular songs as well as innovative original
material. Our style is influenced by the music we listen to
which ranges from Oasis and Catfish And to Bottlemen

many gigs as possible and eventually leading us to a gig in
Burbank (USA).
Slagerij was born in Swindon, September 2007; The boys have
played local gigs and made it through to the regional finals
of the surface unsigned festival playing at the 02 academy
in Bristol 2009. The boys totally threw themselves into a
West Coast tour of the states in 2010; and have had a full
calendar in the festival circuit across the UK, with local gigs
since. A band not to miss, with energy and magnetism.
MetSon are the premier party, pop & rock duo in South West.
Boasting a varied and dynamic set list designed to make
sure that everyone has a great time. Our set list ranges from
the 60’s right through to the modern day and is guaranteed
to get any occasion rocking!
“One of the most exciting new artists to hit the classical
crossover music scene, Open Mic UK finalist Jordan Adams
brings his remarkable vocal talents to this years event.
Singing well known favourites as well as original material
including latest single release “Hold On”, watch out for an
unmissable performance.

HOSTED BY
RACHEL WHITE
“No egos, no divas just working class men having a good
time.” Mick O’Toole formed in 2012 in Calne, Wiltshire. This
town would be the breeding ground to where we honed
our style of chaotic English Punk with our ancestral Celtic
and English Folk to create our style of British Folk Punk. Mick
O’Toole was a character in a song from local legends
‘The Boys Of County Hell’ a band who we get most of our
inspiration from. We now have two EP’s ‘Deep In Cider’ and
‘1665 Pitchfork Rebellion’.
Sister Sister have been a favourite act for many years on the
Swindon music scene. The trio not only fellow musicians but
they are also great friends and outrageous party going crazy
random hedonists! These sax playing singing, blond nut cases
are delighted to return to amuse and entertain the crowds at
Swindon & Wiltshire Pride 2016, after attending for many years
as toilet attendants and helping as volunteers. Their exclusive
repertoire covers everything from country to heavy metal
with a dash of Bucks Fizz thrown in the mix! The versatility
of these girls along with an explosive on stage energy is
completely infectious; you have to see it to believe it…
After working together now on the cabaret circuit both here
and overseas for the last 10 years The Fabulous Miss Bridy and
Boy Jase will be treading the boards of the Swindon Bowl
once more! Along with the gorgeous Emily bringing her vocal
talents to the stage and the fabulous team of Nathaniel
and Gemma livening the venue up for the evening with
their dance moves, we aim to give the crowd a fun, singing,
dance filled 45minutes of cabaret time!
Lavish Costumes as always along with a stage scene and
some of Miss B’s carving wit will set the crowd ready to party
along with this years headlining act!
Rachel has travelled the world entertaining, headlining the
QE2 and supported major chart acts on a number of arena
tours Steps, Westlife, Mis Teeq, Five and Atomic Kitten. Her
first independent release with self-penned track ‘Cinderella’s
Playing Out’ reached No.7 in the UK dance charts as well
as No.20 on the Box TV Charts. Rachel was also chosen to
represent the UK twice as a Musical Ambassador with the
BBC, traveling to Kosovo to launch Top of the Pops and
China for World Aids Day. The event in China was the first TV
collaboration between the BBC & China and was aired to
over eighty million viewers.

I’m Veronica Wyatt, a budding singer/songwriter originally
from Brighton. Music is my life, it’s helped me in so many
ways and I always get such a wonderful feeling when I sing
and I can’t wait to share that feeling with you. I sing acoustic
style songs with jazzy undertones and smooth rhythms.
Growing up in Brighton I’ve learnt a lot about pride and to
me it’s a day for everyone to be free. To just be themselves
and celebrate that we all are who we are and no matter
what...love is love.

Proudly

Pride.
Be respectful and value
everyone.
Embracing diversity and inclusion to
reflect the communities we serve.
PCSO’s Lee Hare and Kate Jackson-Collier who represent the
Wiltshire Police & Justice branch of Unison are delighted to be able
to contribute £555.00 towards this years Swindon & Wiltshire Pride
event. We are both immensely proud of how successful Swindon &
Wiltshire Pride has become and more importantly what it stands for.
The committee are a credit to Swindon and Wiltshire and it’s LGBT
community and we are extremely happy to support such a rewarding
event.
Both myself and Kate love the water and kayak as a hobby so we
decided to set ourselves a crazy challenge of completing two Kayak
Marathons over a two day period. We were very lucky to have a lot of
support from both friends, family and members of the community who all
contributed via the “Go Fund Me” fundraising site.
A few months before the event we attended the lakes as often as we
could to build up our strength and stamina. Then over two very sunny
days and after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, and trying not to be
eaten alive by the lakes stock of crayfish we finally reached our goal. At
5 o’clock in the evening of the second day we both crossed the finishing
line after completing 52 miles each in our rainbow adorned kayaks.
To ease our aching muscles and celebrate our achievement and the
fact that we survived we both decided to launch ourselves off the jetty
in to the cool water.
We really hope that our efforts go some way towards making the 2016
PRIDE event even more successful than the last and wish everyone a
very safe and happy PRIDE.

POLICING WITH PRIDE
Lee Hare and Kate Jackson-Collier are the Unison LGBT Officers for Wiltshire Police. Their role has been to further build and maintain relationships
in a fun and interactive way whilst sending a clear message that homophobia, transphobia and biphobia will not be tolerated.
Since taking on their roles Lee & Kate have taken the relationship to
new levels in a number of ways, some of these include raising a rainbow
flag adorned with the Wiltshire Police crest over Police Headquarters in
Devizes and Swindon on key dates including the weekend of Swindon &
Wiltshire PRIDE, full participation in the PRIDE Parade and by setting up
regular police surgeries at the Mailcoach public house in Swindon.
Chief Constable Mike Veale said: “Wiltshire Police is passionate about
equality and diversity, and that not only goes for our interactions with the
public and our commitment to investigate and tackle hate crime, but
also our attitudes within the organisation.
“We have two dedicated LGBT officers PCSO Lee Hare and PCSO Kate
Jackson-Collier who do a fantastic job to highlight these issues within the
police. We need to make sure all our staff and officers know that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated, and that we lead the way within
the communities of Wiltshire and Swindon.
All of us at Wiltshire Police are delighted to share this day with you all and
wish you a safe and happy PRIDE 2016.

Your sexuality is no barrier to fostering – in fact we already have
several brilliant foster carers in Swindon who are gay.
We want to say thank you for fulfilling this vital role and ask
whether you, or someone you know, could help too.
The council needs foster carers for children of all ages with
placements lasting from a few days to many years.
Carers receive payment and allowances to help cover their
time and expenses, as well as free ongoing training to develop
existing and gain new skills.

JUST DON’T ASK
The internet offers numerous lists of questions that shouldn’t be asked of a
transgender person. Questions such as: • What surgeries have they had?
• What genitals are in their pants?
• What bathroom do they use?
• When did they know they were trans?
• What is their sexual orientation?
• What is their real name?
• How do they pee or have sex?
So why shouldn’t you ask these questions of me or other transgender people.
First and foremost, it is an invasion of privacy especially if the person asking is a
stranger.
In my own experience I have had people do this and it is not pleasant
especially if I am out with friends or family as it affects them too. In a public
setting there is also the matter of safety. If you’re not transgender it’s natural to
be curious and have questions, but remember that your curiosity is never more
important than the comfort, privacy and even the safety of your transgender
friends and family members.
Just ask yourself how you would feel if you were asked these questions at
random in a coffee shop or walking through the town centre. If it would make
you feel uncomfortable or at risk, then just don’t ask.

OUT OF THE CAN
Hiya! We are Out Of The Can, an LGBTQ+ youth club that strive
to support young people that are questioning their sexuality/
gender or going though or have been though the ‘coming out’
journey.
Out Of the Can works with young people between the ages of
13-19. It is a great place where you can meet new friends and
gain support in a natural, private location that is based in Swindon town centre.
If you would like more information or support then contact us
by emailing: [email protected]
“OOTC is a welcoming, supporting, friendly, fun, positive vibe environment.
The support is amazing, I’ve only been coming for the past 7 weeks and
I find it amazing, meeting new people with the same sexuality and issues
they face with coming out. Everyone is willing to help no matter the issue
and everyone is understanding”
