Chippenham
National Trust
Grade 1 listed, Ye Halle of John Halle was built circa 1470
in the Tudor Gothic style, and was originally the home of a wealthy
wool merchant. The mock Tudor façade was added in 1834.
It became a cinema in 1937, and today has five screens. It is thought
to be the oldest building in the world to permanently house a cinema.
Corsham
There are plenty more stories where that came from.
Isn’t it about time you discovered more about Salisbury.
Chippenham’s Light Switch On weekend is
taking place 28-29 November. Experience it
like never before, with a fantastic line up of
performers and festive activities, including a
roller rink! Full details on our website.
This autumn discover world-renowned and
magical gems the National Trust takes care of
in Wiltshire: Avebury, Great Chalfield Manor
& Garden, Lacock, Mompesson House,

Troutbeck Guest House and Red Lion Freehouse
Nestled in a tiny little village lies Troutbeck Guest
House and the Red Lion Freehouse, where chefowners Guy and Brittany Manning have created a
classy but cosy sanctuary for serious foodies.
For many years visitors have come from near and
far to enjoy the Red Lion’s Michelin-starred pub fare
and friendly but proper service (also The Good Food
Guide’s Pub of the Year 2014 and 4th Best Pub in
the UK 2016). Since December 2012 guests have
also been able to retire to the charming Troutbeck
Guest House – a polished riverside retreat just steps
away from the pub’s red doors.
With exquisite attention to detail, Troutbeck’s
unique bedrooms are just as beautiful as the open
countryside surrounding them. Egyptian cotton linen, Bang & Olufsen entertainment, local
organic toiletries and complimentary home-made snacks are just a few perks guests can enjoy
on a private deck mere feet from the River Avon.
Troutbeck’s list of awards also continues to grow, with 5 Yellow Stars from the AA; 5 Stars, a Gold Award and Breakfast Award from
VisitEngland; Sawday’s Best Pub with Rooms 2013; and the Sunday Times’ Top 10 Foodie Hotels 2013. If you’re treating someone to a
special getaway, it’s as simple as making a booking. The warm charm of the Red Lion and quiet seclusion of Troutbeck will do the rest.
