Prague’s Best Attractions
Underground map - metro, trams and trains of prague integrated transport system
C
C) Charles Bridge – dating back to 1357 this
bridge was built to replace Judith’s Bridge from
the 12th century. There are thirty sculptures that
decorate the bridge date mainly from the baroque
period. Charles Bridge is one of the most popular
tourist spots - vibrant day or night, scattered with
vendors and entertainers. Early morning is the best
time to experience a less crowded walk, although
a romantic evening walk through the impressively
lit streets of Prague by night is nice too.
D
D) Jewish Quarter Josefov – oldest Jewish
settlement in Europe named after emperor Josef II.
Here are two figures synonymous with this part of
the city, Franz Kafka and the mystical humunculus
Golem created by Rabi Löw. The Jewish cemetery,
Old-new Synagogue, Klausen Synagogue and the
Pinkas Synagogue are definitely worthwhile sights.
Be prepared for entrance admission to most of the
sights ranging from 200 CZK or just buy 480 CZK
for a ticket encompassing all the sights.
E
E) Municipal House – Prague‘s most prominent
Art Nouveau building with interior partially
designed by Alphons Mucha, built between 1905
and 1912. Visit the biggest concert hall in town
(Smetanova Hall) and also don’t miss coffee at the
fabulous Municipal House Kavárna. Next to the
Municipal House is Powder Gate - one of the 13
original fortified gates to Old Town. There is also a
small exhibition about the tower and it is open for
great views of the city.
F
F) Petřín Hill and Funicular – escape to the
green peaceful grounds of Petrin, visit the Petrin
Observation Tower, Observatory or just enjoy great
views of the city. Funicular Railway to Petrin Hill
is just opposite to tram stop Ujezd (trams 12, 22,
23) in Lesser Town. Railway runs in 10-15 min.
intervals. From Petrin Hill you can take a walk
to the Strahov Monastery. The monastery area
includes the unique Strahov Library decorated
with Baroque ceiling frescos.
G
G) Vyšehrad – once it was a forbidding fortress
and now it is a popular place for locals during
weekends. Visit the city’s oldest Romanesque
rotunda of St. Martin, the Church of St. Peter &
Paul, enjoy a peaceful walk in the gardens. It is
easily and quickly reachable from the centre by
metro line ‚C‘ to station ‚Vyšehrad‘ (two stations
from the National Museum). From there it is about
a 10-minute walk to Vyšehrad‘s main gate. The
tour of the complex takes about 2 or 3 hours.

J) The Loreta – is a pilgrimage site established
by B.B. Katherina von Lobkwicz in 1626 where
you can see replica of Santa Casa. The Santa
Casa is an over-decorated baroque cube, which
has fragmentary frescoes inside, and houses the
wonder-working statue of Our Lady of Loreto. The
Loreta treasury has a famed collection of vestments
and other religious objects. In the south-western
corner is the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, which
has a sculpture of a crucified bearded woman.
K
K) St. Nicholas Church - Baroque church built in
the period of 1704-1755 by Kilian Dientzenhofer.
There are beautiful ceiling paintings that show
scenes from the life of St Nicholas and St Benedict,
and a wonderful chandelier. The southern facade
is decorated with figures of Saints. Decorated with
white stucco, it has been nicknamed, the wedding
cake, and is a classic example of Prague baroque
architecture. The splendid dome is 18m in fact
higher than the Petrin Tower.

H) Wenceslas Square – is a hustle and bustle
of commerce, tourist shops, restaurants, casinos,
hotels, and countless shops. It really comes
alive after dark, when its restaurants, cinemas
and nightclubs attract the tourist crowds. At the
northern end of the square you can find the neoRenaissance National Museum and St. Wenceslas
Monument. Another significant building is Koruna
palác - a covered shopping arcade with a stunning
glass dome dating from 1911.
I) Church our Our Lady Before Týn – fascinating
interior with gothic touches from the 14th century.
The interior‘s Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque
features include sculptures of Calvary, a pewter
font and a 15th-century Gothic pulpit. The Danish
astronomer Tycho Brahe is buried in a marble
tomb here. The cathedral is an Old Town Square
landmark with distinctive twin spires that are a
reassuring sight to many tourists after losing their
bearings in the narrow surrounding byways.

Clock – just in the heart of the Old Town
surrounded by charming baroque, gothic
and rococo architecture, OldTown Sq. is a great
place to hang around, have a lunch at one of many
of its cafes, hire a horse or buggy, browse markets
stalls or just watch the Astronomical clock. Don’t
miss the Church of Our Lady Before Týn, the rococo

The history of Prague is also the history of its pubs where the heart of this great city beats. The
pubs have been the social and cultural melting pot of the Czechs since the old times. We designed this walk to include the best old pubs in the Old Town which are very popular among the
local people. You get a chance to taste several brands of Czech beer, understand the „Bohemian
way of life“, ask questions about life in this country, have a traditional Czech dinner, and meet
others who like to go out in the evening. You will feel Prague in your veins. Cheers indeed!

Better known as the Big Fort, the town of Terezín itself was used as transit camp for
Jews from all over Europe and at the same time during visits of the International Red
Cross Organization it was misused for Nazi promotion purposes. The small Fort Terezín
was a cruel prison of the Gestapo - the Reich‘s secret police. If you are interested in
the history of World War II and the holocaust join us for a visit to the small Fort Terezín

This carefully selected walk covers all the most important sights of Prague, and seeing it with
a great guide is like having the past suddenly rise to the surface. We stroll around the famous
historical Prague quarters – Old Town, Jewish Quarter, Lesser Town and Prague Castle.
The first part starts on the Old Town Square with a general introduction to Prague.
Admiring the impressive composition of old buildings and churches, we also become
acquainted with the life of the Czech reformer John Huss. Crooked lanes lead us
back around other keyholes into Prague’s past: Mozart‘s Don Giovanni in the Estates
Theatre, Karolinum - the Charles University since 1348, the cubist house of the Black
Madonnathe and the medieval courtyard Ungelt. If there’s time we also visit the Powder
Gate and the majestic art nouveau building of Municipal House.
A visit to the Jewish Quarter leads us back to its tragic history. You discover the destiny of
Prague Jews living behind the wall of the former ghetto. The Old-New Synagogue, the Old
Jewish Cemetery, the Jewish Museum… visit with us the places where the fabulous Golem
was created, and follow with us in the footsteps of the famous Jewish writer Franz Kafka.
After this, we walk to the Marianske Square, where you have a 30-minute break from
12:45 till 13.15. At this stage you can decide whether you wish to continue after the
break, or if you prefer you can come another day for the second part of the tour.
Our starting point for the second part is the beautiful baroque library of Klementinum.
Crossing the Charles Bridge, the real “open gallery under the sky”, we admire the
peaceful tiny Kampa Island, followed by the graffiti on Lennon Wall. Finally we reach
the Lesser Town Square, the highlight of which is the great St. Nicholas Church. After
a relaxing visit to the great St. Nicholas Church, we climb 200 steps leading to the
Hradcanske Square. Here we reach Prague Castle, one of the biggest fortresses in
Europe. This “city within the city” hides the Schwarzenberg Palace, Archbishop‘s
Palace, Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of St. George ... and the greatest architectural
treasure - St. Vitus Cathedral. The walk finishes next to the Old Royal Palace with a
charming view of Prague, the city of a hundred spires. It is really easy to walk, simple
to understand and great to enjoy!
