Red Cross Babysitting Class
Saturdays, May 31 and June 7, 10am10am-1pm
Boys and girls, ages 11—

Over the course of the two Saturdays, participants will
learn what to do in emergencies, how to have safe
play, and many other helpful tips that will help them be
responsible babysitters. The total fee is $45 . Space is
limited, so sign-up early!

with Chili Luncheon

The Friends of the Weeks Public Library will be holding their Annual Plant and Bake Sale, plus serving a delicious Chili Luncheon. This is a great opportunity to pick up plants (vegetables, herbs and flowers) for your
garden. There will also be a raffle for a Gardening Basket filled with great gardening gear. You can see the
Basket and buy tickets at the Library before May 17th. Tickets also will be sold at the Plant and Bake Sale.
The winning ticket will be drawn on the day of the Plant and Bake Sale. For more information call Marie
Hussey 436-0056.
PLANTS NEEDED! This year, when rejuvenating your garden, and dividing perennials consider giving plants
to the Friends. Turn your extra plants into museum passes, new books and many other beneficial programs
for the Weeks Public Library .The Annual Plant and Bake Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library could
use your help! Donations may be left at the back door of the Library anytime beginning Friday, May 9.
Please identify your donations so others can care for them properly.
ALSO NEEDED: Window boxes, hanging baskets, decorative pots and garden-related items in good condition. So if you’re cleaning out the garage and finding things you won’t be using, consider donating them to the
Friends for the Plant Sale. Crews will be arranging plants in donated pots to sell at the sale. All other garden
items will also be sold during this fundraiser to support Library programs and services. Items may be dropped
off at the Library beginning Friday, May 9.
The annual plant and bake sale and chili luncheon is the primary fundfund-raiser for the year.

who are interested in making charitable donations
through employee deductions. If you are so interested
and your employer offers such a program, consider
the Friends of the Weeks Public Library for your next

Adult Summer Reading Program

T h i s summer adults are invited to read to earn tickets for prizes. The grand prize
will be a $50 gift certificate provided by the Friends to the Portsmouth Music Hall.
Other smaller prizes will also be raffled off. The adult summer reading program begins
Memorial Day weekend. So enjoy the first weekend of summer with a good book and
start earning points toward raffle tickets. Every five books read earns you a ticket for
prizes. Another way to earn tickets is to attend summer adult programs. Each program
attended earns you a ticket! Be sure to come to our first summer program on Wednesday, May 28 at 7pm: Colleen’s New England Kitchen. Learn how to make the perfect
pie crust for all those yummy summer and fall fruits and sample other tasty morsels of
New England. (Space limited, so register early!) So don’t miss out on the summer fun!
The last day to submit titles for credit towards a raffle ticket is Saturday, August 9. This
program is open only to Greenland residents and those with a valid Greenland library
card.
Summer Celebration and 18th Annual Jason Hussey Race
Saturday, July 19
Join us on July 19th for a day
of fun for all ages! Games,
music, great food and much
more will be offered on the
third Saturday in July. The
day will end with the 18th Annual Jason Hussey Race,
starting at 6:00 P.M.
All
community groups and nonprofit agencies are invited to
offer activities, information
about their organization or
host fund-raisers for their cause. Decorating bikes for the red, white and blue parade,
face painting, volleyball, dunk tank, dance dance revolution, and horseshoes are just a
few of the activities that will be offered during the day. Come for the barbecue to benefit environmental school in the fall, enjoy music provided by local talent, or visit the
Yankee Ultralight Fly-In at Sanderson’s Pond on Post Road (the Fly-In runs from July
12th-19th). Whatever you choose to do, the 19th of July promises to be a great day for
all.
A schedule of events will be posted on the Library’s website at
www.weekslibrary.org and Town of Greenland website at www.greenland-nh.com as
the day draws closer.
