In fact, up to 97% of cats have serological evidence of exposure to FHV-1.1 Following recovery from primary infection, up to 80% of cats become carriers.2 Easily transmitted While there is no cure, you can help your patients get over primary infection and reduce the severity and frequency of recurrences by prescribing Enisyl-F or Viralys. FHV-1 is transmitted from cat to cat through: Enisyl-F, now available in a new treat format as well as the convenient 100ml pump, and Viralys are L-lysine supplements specifically developed for cats and kittens. L-lysine is an amino acid that, when administered to cats with FHV-1, has been shown to: • Discharge from the nose, eyes, or mouth • Litter boxes, water dishes, food, etc. Reactivated during times of stress From the dormant state, FHV-1 may be reactivated and shed throughout the infected cat’s life, especially at times of stress. Chronic Conjunctivitis OR Recurrent Corneal Ulcers Kittens Fight back against FHV-1 with Enisyl-F and Viralys Although carriers can remain asymptomatic for long periods of time, they harbor the virus in the nerve cells. Cats who contract FHV-1 remain lifelong carriers of this highly contagious virus and can easily pass it on to uninfected cats. • Lessen the clinical signs of FHV-1 following experimental infection (vs. placebo)3 Adult Cats Highly palatable Both Enisyl-F and Viralys are highly palatable, in a variety of formulations that are easily accepted by most cats. Enisyl-F is available in a paste delivered through a convenient metered dose pump or as a treat. Viralys comes in gel and powder formulations. These convenient delivery methods give owners options to fit their cat’s tastes to help ensure patients get a full course of treatment for a better outcome. • Easy and convenient to administer for improved owner compliance • Minimizes additional stress on the cat or kitten •Reduce viral shedding in the face of stressors known to induce viral reactivation4 Potential Stressors Weaning, Separation from mother and siblings, Presence of new family members (humans or animals) Sneezing, Nasal Discharge + Ocular Discharge, Conjunctivitis L-lysine’s mode of action Birthing, Lactation, Moving, Disease Herpes viruses are dependent on arginine, an amino acid that is essential to the development of viral protein. L-lysine competes with arginine, affecting the virus’s ability to replicate, consequently reducing the viral load. Excellent Safety Profile Kittens Adult Cats A deadly problem in kittens Clinical Symptoms While FHV-1 is rarely fatal in adults, it presents a greater threat to kittens, in which it causes severe respiratory and ocular symptoms. Mortality rates can reach more than 30% in young kittens, who are often infected by their carrier mother. In adult cats, FHV-1 flare-ups are often hard to differentiate from the other two main feline infectious respiratory diseases, calicivirus and chlamydiosis. gs_VET_0018 KL.indd 3-4 Enisyl-F and Viralys are nutritional supplements containing a naturally occurring amino acid. They are manufactured according to rigorous pharmaceutical standards and can be safely administered with no known side effects for as long as required. 5/21/09 9:48:33 PM
