make an important decision is part
of what has helped create Calma e
Gesso, the new luxury design brand
from B<D> Collection.
The brand’s philosophy is embodied
in its name – Calma e Gesso – the
Italian expression that, having
originated in the world of billiards, has
become a part of everyday language.
It encapsulates that moment of
reflection – ‘calma’ – just before the
player takes before a difficult shot,
carefully considering his next move
while rotating chalk – ‘gesso’ – on
the tip of his cue stick.
Tutto ciò che confluisce nel momento
di pace che precede una decisione
importante ha contribuito a dare vita
al nuovo brand di design del lusso di
B<D> Collection.
La filosofia del brand è incarnata nel
nome stesso – “Calma e Gesso” –
un’espressione tipicamente italiana
coniata dal mondo del biliardo che
è diventata parte del linguaggio
comune.
Essa racconta la pausa di riflessione
che il giocatore si prende prima di
un colpo difficile, mentre valuta
con attenzione la mossa successiva,
ruotando il gesso sulla punta della
stecca.

a new luxury brand. The decision
in creating the brand has been a
natural progression of eight years of
friendship and mutual respect.

di un nuovo marchio del lusso.
La decisione di creare il brand è stata
la naturale prosecuzione di otto anni
di amicizia e reciproco rispetto.
L’architetto e imprenditore Gregg
Brodarick è il dirigente di
B<D>Collection, la società dietro
Calma e Gesso, che ne gestisce
produzione e distribuzione, nonché
editore di una serie di brand Made
in Italy.

Calma e Gesso is established at
the intersection between artisan
production and modern style, with a
focus on authentic italian quality.
Filotto is the first product of Calma
e Gesso, giving new life, new
characteristics and new values to a
classic product. At the same time, the
design contains the know-how of the
historic Artusi marque, who provided
advice and a technical consultancy
to the designers. The Adriano
brothers stress how “the design,
construction and workmanship of
this work of genius are all Italian - the
highest expression of the technological
sophistication of the craftsman that
have always distinguished this country
from the rest of the world.”
Calma e Gesso si inserisce nel punto
di intersezione tra produzione
artigianale e stile moderno, con una

Launching the brand is the classic
game of billiards, an emblem of
leisure originating from the palaces
of the bourgeois which has since
become a popular sport across the
generations. The first challenge of
Calma e Gesso has been in recreating
a product with such a long history
but so little evolution.
The magic lies in having realized a thin,
steel frame, which is both adjustable,
divisible, and supports the solid slate
game surface, as well as the crystal
structure that characterizes this new
design. The unique feeling of seeing
a 600kg billiard table ‘float’ on four
legs is second only to the pleasure of
playing on this italian masterpiece.
A lanciare il brand è il classico gioco
del biliardo, emblema del tempo
libero nei palazzi della borghesia,
diventato negli anni uno sport
popolare. La prima sfida di Calma e
Gesso è stata rielaborare un prodotto
che ha una lunga storia, ma una
limitata evoluzione.
La magia sta nell’aver realizzato un
telaio in acciaio sottile, regolabile e
divisibile, che supporta la superficie
di gioco in ardesia, ma anche nella
struttura cristallina che identifica
questo nuovo, esclusivo, design.
La sensazione unica di vedere
un tavolo da biliardo di 600kg
‘galleggiare’ su quattro gambe è
seconda solo al piacere di giocare
sopra questo capolavoro italiano.

decided to redesign
the ping-­pong table.

Giving a new guise to a game born in
the eighteenth century is an incredible
challenge. The Adriano brothers, in
collaboration with B<D> Collection,
already knew the challenge they
were undertaking when they decided
to redesign the ping-­pong table and
transform it into a superlative object
of design: “Lungolinea”.
Dare una nuova veste ad un gioco
nato nel XVIII secolo, è una sfida
incredibile. I fratelli Adriano, in
collaborazione con B<D> Colletction
, conoscevano già la sfida che stavano
intraprendendo quando hanno deciso
di ridisegnare il tavolo da pingpong e trasformarlo in un oggetto
superlativo di design: “Lungolinea”.
The idea of playing on a transparent
games table seems unimagineable,
but thanks to a series of spectacular
inventions, devised by Adriano
Design, it is now possible for even the
most competitive professional players
to enjoy a game of ping­-pong on a
table made of glass. With Lungolinea,
Calma e Gesso have a new magic
with which to astonish the world of
luxury.
L’idea di giocare su tavoli da gioco
trasparenti sembra impossibile, ma
grazie a una serie di pirotecniche
invenzioni ad opera di Adriano
Design è ora possibile anche per
i giocatori professionisti più
competitivi confrontarsi su un tavolo
da ping pong fatto di vetro. Con
Lungolinea, “Calma e Gesso” ha
un nuovo oggetto magico con
cui stupire il mondo del lusso.
