2015 Summer Ballet Intensive
This summer, DDC&G is bringing the Summer Ballet Intensive experience to you! Master teachers
will be traveling to DDC&G bringing extensive experience from all over the world.
How will you reach your next level?
Classes:
Classes run daily from 9-3:30 and include Ballet, Pointe or Pre-Pointe, Variations, Flamenco, Stretch & Strengthening,
a special session-end Q&A with visiting teachers and session-end student demonstration.
Eligibility:
2015-2016 Placement Ballet V– Ballet Intensive (A, B and C) and College-Level Dance Majors.
Tuition:
Similar to those who travel for Intensives, tuition credit will be applied for the appropriate amount as determined for
each family. DDC&G Students are not expected to attend their classes during the intensive (except Company), therefore tuition will be credited toward the Intensive. Additionally, students attending the Intensive will receive credit for
their attendance and their absence will not count against their overall attendance scores.
$860 per 2 week session; $1560 for both sessions. Single week options available.
A 25% non-refundable deposit is due by May 1, 2014 in the DDC&G office.
Details:
Students should bring a water bottle, healthy light lunch and snacks, and everything necessary for class. Black leotard,
pink convertible tights, and a neat bun are required daily. For Flamenco, students need character shoes and a long
flamenco-style skirt. A detailed letter will be sent prior to each session.

Session II Judith Winters Grywalski received her Classical Ballet training at the prestigious
Houston Ballet Academy in Houston, Texas under the direction of Ben Stevenson and Principal Teachers Anne St. Paul, Nicholas Polajenko and Nina Popovich. Ms. Grywalski joined the Dallas Ballet in 1972
under the direction of George Skibine and Marjorie Tallchief dancing in classical and contemporary ballets. In 1978 Ms. Grywalski was thrilled to work with Jazz pioneer Gus Giordano in Chicago, Illinois performing his choreography in concerts and theaters until 1980. Married to fellow dancer Joseph Grywalski
in 1981 and relocated to Columbus, Ohio where the couple performed with OperaColumbus and Columbus Youth Ballet directed by Shir Li Wu and in 1991 joined the faculty of BalletMet Dance Academy. In
2007 Judith moved to her hometown Houston Texas and joined the Ballet Faculty at Galveston Ballet
and Amy Blake Academy of Dance teaching and coaching students who have participated in summer
intensives at American Ballet Theater, Texas Ballet Theatre, Ben Stevenson Houston Ballet Academy...
Session I & II Kristie Latham trained at The Rock School for Dance Education under the direc-
tion of Bo and Stephanie Spassoff where she received a Full Merit Scholarship from 2004-2008. She
also trained at the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet under the direction of Oleg Briansky and Mirelle Briane.
In 2010, Ms. Latham was a trainee with BalletMet before accepting an apprenticeship with Ballet Memphis in 2011. She also had the opportunity to perform with the Indianapolis City Ballet prior to dancing
as a Soloist with Ballet Next. She is currently a company member of BalletMet. She has enjoyed performing such roles as Aurora in Marius Petipa’s Sleeping Beauty Grand Pas de Deux, Sugar Plum
Fairy in The Nutcrakcer, Odile in Black Swan Pas de Deux, Edwaard Liang’s Wunderland, Margo Sappington’s Entwined, and Mauro Bigonzetti’s La Follia. In 2007, she was a Top 12 Finalist in the Youth
America Grand Prix Finals held in New York City.

Session II Jimmy Orrante has been with BalletMet for 19 years dancing numerous roles

ranging from Cavalier and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker, Step Mother in Cinderella, and Dracula in Dracula. He has choreographed several works including his first full length ballet in 2009, The
Great Gatsby, Coming into View, WaterColor and, most recently, Illuminated Tapestry. He attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Performing Arts and North Carolina School of the
Arts. He also attended the International Summer Workshop in Hungary; danced with Memphis Ballet, Nevada Dance Theatre and Los Angeles Chamber Ballet. A recipient of the Violetta Boft
Award, he has performed with L.A.’s Dance Kaleidoscope, England’s Northern Ballet Theatre and
Dance St.Louis. Mr. Orrante also participated in Ballet Austin’s New American Talent Choreographic Competition in Spring of 2014. was a recipient of the 2005 Princess Grace Choreography
Session I & II Sonia Welker Orrante is a Columbus native and a graduate of BalletMet's
original pre- professional program under the direction of Don Eryck. She received additional training
on full scholarship in the most advanced level at the Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Richmond Ballet Schools. She was an Arts and Letters Awardee in 1990 and in 1991 earned top honors
at the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA). This award ultimately lead her to
become a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and travel to Washington, D.C. to dance at the Kennedy
Center for President George Bush. Sonia Welker Orrante joined BalletMet's company in 1991. During her 15 years with the company, she danced leading roles in ballets The Nutcracker, Romeo and
Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Dracula, Giselle, Dangerous Liaisons and Carmina Burana and originated title roles by choreographers David Nixon, John McFall, Birgit Scherzer, Dwight Rhoden and Julia

Session I Erin Long-Robbins began her dance training with the Northeast Regional honor
company, Allegheny Ballet in Altoona, Pennsylvania. There she was taught by world renowned teachers who include: Cherie Noble, Richard Cook, Melinda Howe, Deborah Anthony, Jeff Gribler, Barbara
Sandonato, Paul Gibson and Bettijane Sills. She also studied at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, on
full scholarship at the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet and Saratoga Summer Program in New
York. Ms. Robbins has been offered professional contracts with Joffrey Ballet, BalletMet and Dayton
Ballet. She graduated summa cum laude from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
(BFA) in Dance and a Minor in Psychology where she was taught by Jon Rodriguez, Suzanne Walker
and Patricia White. She is currently an adjunct professor at Wright State University and
Sinclair Community College where she teaches ballet, musical theater jazz, dance appreciation and dance history. She is also the ballet instructor for Dayton Contemporary
Session I & II Griset Damas Roche From La Habana, Cuba, Ms Roche is an international performer,
choreographer and teacher of Flamenco dance and Ballet. Since 2005, Griset owns and directs “Griset damas
Escuela de Flamenco” and has won the Traditions of World Festival in Bogota Columbia in 2004, 2005 and 2007
among numerous other achievements noteably, nominated as of the 5 best shows of the year in Columbusa with
“Salir del Paraiso”. Her training began with Ballet at Alejo Carpentier School and Flamenco at Centro Andaluz,
Cuba. She danced professionally as a ballerina with and teacher with Instituto Superior de Arte for three years
spent 6 years in the soloist dancing program. She has danced with numerous Ballet and Flamenco masters and

Session II Renie Viola studied YBR® under creator Yamuna Zake at the Yamuna
flagship studio in NYC from 2005-2011. She became a certified YBR® practitioner in 2008 and holds
a BFA in dance from the Ohio State University under Bebe Miller, Susan Hadley, Tere O'Connor, Karen Elliot, and many other amazing dance artists. Renie has danced and choreographed professionally with NYC-based Grove Dance Theatre, and Columbus-based CoMo Dance Company. While in NY,
Renie continued her studies with such artists as Irene Dowd, KJ Holmes and Barbara Mahler. As a
professional dancer, she believes firmly in finding efficiency, ease and joy in all movement, and believes YBR® to be the most powerful tool for this, and for overall wellness. Renie is eager to make
YBR® accessible to the DDC community!
Session I & II Seth Wilson started his dance training at the age of 4, under the late Stanley Bates
in Queens, New York. A native of Queens, Seth continued his training throughout New York at many institutions such as Alvin Ailey, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Ballet Hispanico. He also trained at LaGaurdia
High School for the Performing Arts and later attended Purchase College State University of New York.
Seth has toured internationally in Germany, Costa Rica, and Bermuda, as well as within the United
States. Seth has performed with Dance Theatre of Harlem’s, Dancing Through Barriers Ensemble, Alvin
Ailey, New York Theatre Ballet, Opus Dance Theatre, Viewpointe Dance, Janusphere Dance Company,
and has completed his 8th season with Columbus Dance Theatre. Seth has been a guest artist with Fred
