UCI MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS
In 1982 the Hauser Memorial Trust
was established by Dr. Choong
Baick as a memorial to Dr. Roger
G. Hauser who died prematurely
at the high point of his productive
period in life.
The purpose of this fund is primarily for educational purposes
with emphasis on students who are
committed to medicine as physicians.
The fund is a legal non-profit
organization, incorporated in the
State of California and administered by the Tustin-Santa Ana
Rotary Club Foundation. The
recipients are students at the UCI
School of Medicine and the school
assists in finding applicants.
The last recipients were in the
2001-02 school year. Because of
this inactive period, there will be
four scholarships of $1,500 given
for the year 2008-09.
We plan to give two awards to
members of the Freshman Class,
one to a member of the Sophomore Class and one to a member
of the Junior Class.
The two winners of the first
scholarships, David Van Stralen
and Andrew R. Opfell now practice
in California, as a neonatal pediatrician and an orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Choong Baick and Mr. Louis
Medina from the UCI Medical
School were guests of the club at
last week’s meeting.
This coming August, at Relay For
Life at Yorba Linda, volunteers
will have an unprecedented opportunity in Cancer research. The
Cancer Prevention Study-3 will
recruit volunteers who agree to
complete a mailed survey every
two years for 20-30 years!
To qualify the individuals, ages
30-65, must be willing to make a
long term commitment. You can
enroll on Friday, August 8, 2008
at Relay for Life of Yorba Linda
at Yorba Linda Middle School,
4777 Casa Loma Avenue, Yorba
Linda, CA 92886. Enrollment time
is 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Enrollment will take about 30
minutes.
“If you ar unable to enroll,
please be an advocate for the
Cancer Prevention Study-3 by
encouraging those close to you to
participate,” urged Karrie Good,
Program Chair. “The study
will be enrolling half a million
people throughout the country
over the next five years!“
