Frank Varischetti named
Beavers’ new football coach
F
or the third time in 12 years, DuBois Area High
School will have a new head football coach.
In February, former Brockway Area High School
head coach Frank Varischetti was named the
head coach.
For 28-year-old Varischetti, he’s leaving a football
program that plays on a field named for his grandfather to try and resurrect a program that has fallen on hard times.
“It is probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve
made in my life with the family ties, playing here
and living here, to leave, but it wasn’t a difficult
decision to accept the position,” Varischetti said in
a Courier-Express story.
Since Herm Wertz retired following the 1999 season, the Beavers have just two winning seasons
in 11 years while compiling a record of 42-69, a
winning percentage of 38. The span of nine losing seasons in the last 11 is the worst in Beavers
history.
Lon Hazlet came from Karns City to coach the LOOKING ON - New DAHS football coach Frank

Foundation to play bigger role due to state budget cuts
roposed state budget cuts in
education funding will have
a great impact on school districts
across the state and the DuBois
Area School District is no exception. With that in mind, educational
foundations, such as the DuBois
Area Schools Education Foundation, will now have to play a larger
role in supporting programs that
will be eliminated or receive less
funding due to budget cuts.
One of the programs to be a casualty of the budget cuts at the state
level is the Dual Enrollment program, which allows approved high
school students to take collegelevel courses at nearby universities and technical schools with the
help of state funding. The DASEF
Tuition Reimbursement program
helps support that program and will
continue to do so with the help from
businesses and alumni.
To support that program, as well
as our Artist in Residence program, the Virtual Academy and the
Teacher Grant Program, you can
make a tax deductible donation to
the DASEF.
The bulk of the DASEF funding
comes through the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit
Program. However, budget cuts

The DuBois Area Schools Educational Foundation (DASEF) is a non-profit, 501 c3, that raises money for the DuBois Area School District’s Virtual

and Technical School-Level Tuition Reimbursement Program for students taking classes at Penn State DuBois, IUP, Clarion University, Lockhaven
