Già più di mille anni fa le creazioni degli artigiani veneziani erano
ammirate in tutto il mondo allora conosciuto
La realizzazione di raffinati oggetti in vetro ha sempre accompagnato la
storia millenaria di Venezia. Il più antico documento oggi esiste relativo
all’arte del vetro risale al 982 e già in quel tempo le creazioni degli
artigiani veneziani erano ammirate e ricercate in tutto il mondo allora
conosciuto.
La presenza delle fornaci nelle vetrerie del centro della Città costituiva
però un grave pericolo, perché all’epoca la maggior parte delle case
veneziane era in legno: le conseguenze di un incendio sarebbero state
disastrose. Per questo motivo nel 1295 un decreto della Serenissima
Repubblica di Venezia stabilì il trasferimento dei laboratori artigiani per
la lavorazione del vetro in un’isola della laguna limitrofa. Iniziò così la
grande tradizione del vetro di Murano.

The creation of refined glass objects has always accompanied the millennial history of
Venice. The oldest existing document, which refers to the art of glass, goes back to 982.
And in those days, the works of Venetian craftsmen were already admired all over the
world (as it was conceived at the time).
However, the furnaces of glassworks in the city centre posed a serious danger as most of
the houses in Venice were made of wood: the consequences of a fire would have been
disastrous. For this reason, in 1295, the Serenissima Republic of Venice resolved to
transfer the glass craftsmen laboratories to an island in the nearby lagoon. Murano's great
glass making tradition started from here.

Protetti dalla Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia e circondati da un’aura di mistero e bellezza,
gli artigiani artisti di Murano realizzarono oggetti sempre più raffinanti e incantevoli,
perfezionando costantemente le proprie tecniche, di cui custodivano gelosamente i segreti,
tramandati di padre in figlio.
Ma in una piccola isola è difficile nascondere un segreto ed erano all’ordine del giorno i
tentativi di carpire le tecniche dei migliori vetrai: la storia di questi oggetti di sofisticata
bellezza è anche una storia di misteri, intrighi e spionaggio. Per questo motivo gli abitanti di
Murano erano gli unici autorizzati a circolare per strada armati, erano obbligati a vivere
sull'isola e non potevano lasciare Venezia senza un permesso speciale: erano i soli infatti a
custodire i preziosi segreti della lavorazione del vetro.

Protected by the Serenissima Republic of Venice and surrounded by an aura of
mystery and beauty, the art craftsmen of Murano produced objects of increased
refinement and charm. Constantly improving their techniques, they guarded their
secrets with jealousy as they were handed down from generation to generation.
But it is difficult to hide a secret on a small island and attempts to grasp the
technique of the best glassmakers were not unusual: the history of these
sophisticated beautiful objects is also a history of mystery, intrigue and espionage.
For this reason, the inhabitants of Murano were the only people who had the right
to go around armed; they were forced to live on the island and could not leave
Venice without special authorization: they were the only ones responsible for
safeguarding the precious secrets of glass making.

Per stimolare la realizzazione di oggetti sempre più belli e premiare i vetrai
più abili, ben presto la Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia istituì dei
riconoscimenti artistici per i maestri che introducevano novità nella
lavorazione del vetro e si impegnò a tutelare ogni nuova scoperta. In
questo modo l’arte della lavorazione del vetro a Murano si perfezionò
costantemente, soprattutto a partire dal XIV secolo, quando furono
affinate nuove tecniche. Nel XVI secolo il vetro di Murano vide il suo più
alto splendore: i soffiati divennero sottili e purissimi, le fogge sempre più
essenziali e leggere, adatte a impreziosire le tavole dei ricchi nobili
europei.
Questa tradizione continua ancora oggi, in armonia con l’evoluzione
dell’arte e dello stile contemporanei, grazie all’inesauribile creatività dei
maestri veneziani che li porta a realizzare oggetti sempre diversi e unici.

In order to encourage the creation of increasingly beautiful objects and to reward the most
talented glassmakers, the Serenissima Republic of Venice soon introduced artistic awards for
craftsmen who presented new ideas in glass making, taking it upon itself to protect every new
discovery. In this way, Murano's glassmaking art improved steadily, especially from the XIV
century when the new techniques were refined. In the XVI century, Murano's glass was at the
height of its splendour: hand blown glass became extremely thin and pure, its form more and
more essential and light, suitable for adorning the tables of rich European nobles.
This tradition still continues today in harmony with the evolution of contemporary art and style,
thanks to the relentless creativity of Venetian masters that induces them to create objects that
are always different and unique.

I maestri vetrai miscelano le materie prime e le depongono nelle fornaci di
sera, per poi attendere che durante la notte si compia ancora una volta la
stessa magia che a Murano accade ogni notte da oltre mille anni: il mattino
successivo ritrovano il vetro fuso, pronto per essere modellato e decorato
con le tecniche affinate nel corso dei secoli, quali la lavorazione a lume,
che utilizza una canna vitrea ammorbidita con il fuoco per realizzare oggetti
di qualsiasi forma, o la vetrofusione, per ottenere effetti cromatici unici
sovrapponendo lastre di vetro di diverso colore.
I preziosi manufatti in vetro a questo punto sono pronti per essere
incastonati dai maestri orafi di Vicenza nelle montature, generalmente in
oro o argento.

Master glassmakers mix the raw materials and place them in furnaces in the evening.
Then they wait for the same enchantment to take place once again during the night.
This happens every night in Murano from over one thousand years: the next morning they
find that the glass has melted and is ready to be shaped and decorated using techniques
refined over the centuries. These include lampworking, which employs a glass tube
softened with fire to create objects of any shape, or glass fusing, which obtains unique
chromatic effects by placing glass sheets of various colours one above the other.
The precious glass works are now ready to be mounted in gold or silver by master
goldsmiths from Vicenza.
In each Venetiaurum creation, past, present and future intertwine in order to give shape
to the highest expression of creativity and to explore the new potentials of the ancient
glassmaking tradition.

As a family run business that has been able to evolve over the
years maintaining its spirit intact, Venetiaurum experiences the
direct involvement of the family who owns it- its founder
Tranquillo Loison, his wife Laura and his daughter Sara - even
during the creative process. Laura and Sara, in particular, are
responsible for choosing the styles proposed by the
Company's observatories located throughout the world and
Tranquillo has to guide the glass making masters for the
achievement of the desired aesthetic effect.
Every new jewel by Venetiaurum is the result of a long and
careful analysis, long as the time required for working glass,
sudden inspirations, as for any true work of art and of a
