COME EXPLORE CATHOLICISM
Do you have a family member or friend who is
interested in learning about the Catholic faith?
Do you know someone who was baptized Catholic as an
infant, but never received any other sacraments, or
attended religious education or Mass while growing up?
Are you a visitor, curious about what the Catholic
Church teaches? Perhaps thinking about joining the
Catholic Church?
For more info, please call Edie Shanahan, 865-271-9276,
or [email protected].
DAILY MASS ON MONDAYS
Until further notice, there will not be Mass on Mondays
at 8:30 AM. However, there will be communion services
unless posted otherwise.
FATHER DOUG’S BOOK DISCUSSION
Thursday, March 26th, 6:30 pm,
Deacon Jose Room, PFLC
Mark your calendar to come together in community to
discuss our Christmas book “Made for More” by Curtis
Martin. Additional copies of the book are now available
in the narthex or office.
NEW MASS INTENTION GUIDELINES
In an effort to make more Masses available for your
intentions but to also continue to follow The Code of
Canon Law and to be fair to all parishioners, the
following are our new guidelines for requesting Mass
Intentions beginning on March 9, 2015:
2015 WOMEN’S LENTEN RETREAT
“Spiritual Search of Faith–Filled Women”
Thursday, March 19th
The Retreat will be held at the St. Thomas Parish Family
Life Center following the 8:30 AM Mass.
Cost $10 includes AM snacks and lunch.
Multiple intentions will be available for each Mass.
Because there will be more than one intention per
Mass, we will no longer accept any donations; as
according to Canon Law, we are only allowed to
accept one donation per Mass and we want to be fair
to all.
The names of the people who are being prayed for
will no longer be announced individually in the
Prayers of the Faithful during Mass, as the list could
be lengthy at times. The celebrant will know the
names of the daily intentions and will be keeping
those people in prayer during Mass.
The names will continue to be listed in the bulletin.
You may request intentions by coming into the office,
calling the office, or by email [email protected].
To be fair to those requests made before the policy
change: any Mass intentions requested prior to this
change in policy (March 9, 2015), the name will be
announced during the Prayers of the Faithful.
If you have questions regarding these changes, please
contact Fr. Doug directly.
CHARITY FUND
As I mentioned in my end of year letter, beginning this
month you will be receiving an envelope designated for
Charity. This is so that we can be more responsive to
the needs of our brothers and sisters in and around our
community who are in need. If you do not receive
envelopes and you wish to give to this fund, please
write “Charity Fund” on the memo line of your check.
There is also a new Giving Opportunity set-up in
WeShare called “Charity Fund”.
The majority of this collection will go toward our parish
charitable efforts including our Society of St. Vincent de
Paul with the remainder going to local charitable
organizations. This will be above and beyond our
current monthly donations to these local charities.
Some parishioners have already given in a generous
way to the Charity Fund this month. I thank you for your
continued generous support of St. Thomas the Apostle!
Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Doug
Kathleen Mitchell, former St. Thomas parishioner will be
our guest speaker and lead the retreat.

HUNGERING FOR A SEASON OF HOPE
The next stop on our CRS Rice Bowl journey is the African
nation, Niger, where we’re reminded that life’s joys and
challenges are often seasonal. This week we pray for
people who struggle to feed their families during the
hungry season—when food is in short supply—and we
commit to acting for the common good.
THE ELECT OF GOD - CALLED BY NAME
On the Third Sunday of Lent, we celebrate the first of
three Scrutinies for the Elect of the Church who are
preparing for the Sacraments of Initiation on Holy
Saturday this Easter: Baptism, Confirmation, and First
Eucharist.
Scrutinies are powerful prayers of self-searching and
repentance. They are meant to uncover and heal all
that is weak in the Elect, and strengthen all that is
strong and good, and protect them against temptation
and evil.
Please pray for our Catechumens & Candidates during
Lent as they prepare to be received into the Church.

SYNOD OF BISHOPS’ QUESTIONNAIRE
In preparation for the Synod of Bishops in October that
will further reflect upon The Vocation and Mission of
the Family in the Church and Contemporary World, the
Vatican has sent a list of 46 questions to all the Bishops
of the Church. The purpose of these survey questions is
to aid in developing the Synod’s agenda and working
document. Though the intended audiences for these
questions are academic institutions and church
associations and organizations, Bishop Stika encourages
anyone who is interested to participate in the survey.
The link for the diocesan survey can be found at
www.dioknox.org and must be completed no later than
March 15.
Please check the website for the latest
information at WWW.STHOMASLC.COM.

have coffee and donuts in the PFLC or courtyard.

City. Place your food donations in the chapel.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE
Come pray with your fellow St. Thomas parishioners on
Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the Planned Parenthood
abortion business at 710 North Cherry Street, Knoxville. St.
Thomas will be there from 7 AM until 7 PM on these days.
Approximately 4000 abortions are performed every year in
Knoxville. Each abortion represents one life lost and
another life forever wounded. Your contribution of time,
prayer, and fasting will have an immeasurable lifesaving
effect in our community. Please sign up on one of the
sheets in the Narthex or call Kay Sheldon at 742-7557 to
spend an hour or two on this date. Directions are available
in the Narthex.

llamando a hacer.
