Monroe Street Arts Center is a community school of the arts
providing private and group music and art instruction for all ages.
Altogether, MSAC teachers, staff, students and their families
create a special community of individuals, developing, sharing,

Experience art in a setting where exploration and discovery
are the main focus. This class is based on sensory experiences
and the process of creating art. Young artists will experience
a new texture, color, and media in each class. Parent or
caregiver attends.

Learn a variety of oil and chalk pastel techniques including
layering, color mixing and shading. Apply your knowledge to
create lovely pieces of artwork.

Knights, castles, dragons, kings, fairies, princesses, and other
enchanted themes are the inspiration for this imaginative class.
Join in on the fun and create your own fairy tale world.

Draw inspiration from well-known children’s book authors and
illustrators to start the creative process of art making. We will
look at the stories and drawings of Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, and Shell
Silverstein to name a few.

Explore beginning drawing and painting techniques. Paint with
watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paint. We will practice our skills

Use air-dry clay, Model Magic and found objects to create lovely
and expressive works of art in the world of 3-D art.

A summer staple at MSAC! Beep Boop Bop…Make your own “out
of this world” alien, and construct a way cool robot using lots of
unique materials. Cut, glue, slice and paint your way to a far-out
creation.

A class all about you! Make self-portraits, sculptures, and
paintings that will have the most interesting subject matter…YOU!

Learn the basics of comic creation: drawing skills, character

Experience the tactile world of art and squish your way to
a masterpiece. Get your hands dirty making your own clay,
painting with goo, and creating slime.

It’s Shark Week! Spend the week learning and making art
about many different types of sharks. Create sharks with paint,

Artwork comes in many shapes and sizes and a wide variety of
mediums. Explore art making methods, both traditional and
modern. Highlights include collage, printmaking, watercolor,

Dive into a deep sea adventure and develop your 2-D and 3-D

perfect class for you! Learn how to draw the proportions and
details of the body and face. (Note: We will keep this class ageappropriate and will only go into the proper amount of detail
when dealing with the human figure.)

Cave paintings, dinosaurs and woolly mammoths are just some
of what will help us navigate our way through ancient history.
Prepare to paint, sculpt and construct in this class.

Learn ways to paint with pigments from nature make sun prints
and dye fabric. We will focus on creating art the natural way.
#203 Making Miniatures • 12:30-3:00 PM
Try your hand at interior design! Decorate a mini room with
handmade furniture and decorations. Create worry dolls, mini
artworks, miniature gardens and much more.

Make your art POP! We will make our own Pop Art self-portrait,
explore the cubist style of Picasso and work on printmaking
skills using line, texture, balance, and variety.

Ugly dolls! Creatures of the deep! Monsters from Mars! Collage,
paint, sculpt, and sew different wonders of the imagination.

Use the inspiration of famous artists from around the world
to make your own work of art. Learn painting and drawing
techniques inspired by the masters.

Learn to draw in the Japanese style of Manga. Create your own
characters and design a background for your storyline.

Learn new painting and sculpture techniques as we expand our
knowledge of space.

Combine your drawing and painting skills. We will review
drawing techniques and learn new ways to paint. Come ready to

Practice drawing from life in this class. Learn to draw the
(clothed) figure, and details of the face, hands, and feet. This class
is exploratory and all abilities are welcome.

Feel like a professional artist when you plan out, draw and paint

to animate before computers, as well as popular ways to create

Fabric Storyscapes: Ages 6-14
A summer tradition at MSAC! Design and create your own
unique fabric “storyscape” in a miniature quilt format.
Instructor: Nancy Daly. Cost: $85 (includes finishing).

Open Art Studio Ages 5-13 / Showstoppers Ages 8-14
Use the MSAC art studio as your own! Work on a self-directed
project under the guidance of an experienced art teacher. We
will provide all of the art materials and one planned project per
session to get you started. This is a drop-in class, but please call
ahead to hold a spot, 608.232.1510.
Cost is $12 per class or $48 for 5 classes with an Open Art
Studio Pass.

Have you ever wanted to be a part of a show choir? Are you
excited by Pitch Perfect, Pentatonix, or Glee? MSAC is excited
to announce a new show choir camp! Join us for a week with
talented musicians and teachers, Abby Nichols and
Mark Wurzelbacher. We will learn pop songs and perform them
at the end of the week in a special concert. Cost: $120

Music Together is a community of families sharing songs,
instrument play, rhythm chants and movement activities in a
relaxed, playful, non-performance setting.
For ages 0-5, caregiver participates with child(ren). Fee includes
six 45-mintue classes and all Music Together Materials.

Hip-Pocket Harmonica with
Dewayne Keyes: Ages 6-12
Harmonica Camp
Have fun and learn some songs in this group music class. We’ll
put on a 30 minute show at the end of the week.
No experience needed, but please bring a 10-hole diatonic
harmonica in the key of C.
Recommended harmonicas are: Blues Band, Hot Metal or Easy
Rider brands. Available at Guitar Center, or Spruce Tree Music.

Since 1997, MSAC has been offering music lessons to students
from 5 to adult in bass, cello, flute, guitar, harmonica, piano,
trumpet, viola, violin, and voice. The first step towards becoming
a MSAC music student is to take a half hour “Meet and Greet”
introductory lesson. Please call 608.232.1510 to schedule
a lesson.
We invite you to develop your artistic skills, talent, and
creativity! We offer customized instruction for beginners to
advanced levels, children and adults, in drawing, painting, print
making, sculpture, and collage.
Following a “Meet & Greet” introductory lesson, students are
asked to register for a minimum of four 60-minute lessons,
supplies included.
