American heads under helmets, a photo
album
Go!
Last November, we started accumulating photos of helmets
with American heads underneath them. Why? Because. We
have five pages of "Helmet" photos for you to browse. Some
will make you proud, some will make you sad, some will
make you laugh, some will make you all of that, and more.
They all reflect our culture, our people.

Meet SSgt Jessica Clements, US Army, hero. While in Iraq, Jessica was
severely wounded by an improvised explosive device while traveling to the
Baghdad Airport in a truck. She was struck along the left side of her body,
especially at the hip and shoulder. These injuries alone were serious. But the
shrapnel and blast overpressure (detonation waves) damaged both sides of
her head and brain. We have seen a report that three large veins were
bleeding dangerously in her head. In short, SSgt. Clements was in very bad
shape. Following God's divine intervention to save her, Clements (left) walks
to the Zachary & Elizabeth Fisher House on the grounds of the Minneapolis
VA Medical Center, under the protective watch of her mother, Kim Wyatt,
who is staying at the house during her daughter's extensive treatment.
Physical, occupational and speech therapies are part of Clements' routine.

Star Tribune. Talking Proud also did a summary report about her. When
seeing what she has gone through, this editor doesn't know whether to chill
with pride or cry, so he does both.

Sitting in dad's seat on a Huey. Kim Douglas Sistrunk was only a year old
when the helicopter her father, 1st Lt. Leslie F. Douglas, was flying was shot
out of the skies over Vietnam. His war buddies John Goosman, Randy Clark,
and Jim Coleman came from all over the country to be with her in Tupelo as
she took her first Huey rideā€”in the same seat where her dad sat. Kim said, "I
had lived with the pain of not having my father for many years, but I never
really understood just how my father's death affected his comrades. All that
changed when we sat together in the Huey and just talked." Kim's story
represents a lot of stories of children who lost their fathers in Vietnam. For
her, meeting the men who knew him in war brings answers and comfort and
a connection she's always wanted. And for the veterans themselves, it is a
healing experience they'd hope will come for others. Photo credit: Sarah

Too bad, your editor is from Buffalo! Do you know, there was a time in our
lives when a four year old child had come to believe every Super Bowl had
the Buffalo Bills in it! Buffalo Bills' Willis McGahee flexes his muscle after
