Preface:
Please do not get confused by the Internet-Address. We started selling replicas of Springerle molds made by a
Swiss company with the name “Ars Replica”. In the meantime they changed the name several times and we
discontinued buying from them.
We decided to create our own line of molds to guarantee better delivery and new designs. We found a small
company in Sondershausen, Thuringia, Germany. The name of the company is “Dukasi”. Mr Siegmann the owner
does the carving of the molds and the company manufactures also the replicas. We use only non hazardous and
certified materials. The replicas are painted with shellac which has been approved as food save. For example this
shellac is used for covering chocolates and medical pills.
Care instructions:
We use a non-poisonous porcelain like material for the replicas. They will break when you drop them. For that
reason please be careful. We also use a paint which is food safe and resistant against the dough. However, the
paint may swell if exposed too long to water. For that reason do not soak our molds in water - brush them briefly
under running water and dry them. For doing so we use a cheap electrical tooth brush. Do not clean the replicas
in a dishwasher!
Most manufacturers of none-stick cook ware recommend similar precautions and you would never do it with
wooden mold either!
If small traces of dough remain in the mold after use, do not try to scratch them out by using a needle or any other
sharp utensil.
Please do not bake the dough in the molds. This would be a complete new practice and the mold is not made for
that. Also do not use them in a micro-wave.
Misuse is not covered by our warranty.
How to use the molds:
The best way to make Springerle is to press the mold into the dough. If the mold is very deep it may be better to
press the dough into the mold.
Do not use a rolling pin to press the mold into the dough. Th mold may break.

books from Olli Leeb.
We will use some new categories in future in our web site after the Swiss made molds are sold.
This catalogue uses already these new categories. Please understand that it is sometimes very difficult to decide
to which group a mold shall be allocated. We list molds only once!
Step by step we will add molds to the different categories.
In order to get some feedback from you we also show sketches from molds which we plan to add. Please send us
comments and suggestions for new designs.
I will address some of these suggestions to Dukasi, such as adding borders etc.
Please be aware that we have financial restrictions. To introduce a new design is not cheap.
We will show the prices in Canadian and in US funds. (The Canadian prices include still the GST. This will change
during the year afte the HST has been introduced in Ontario)

Architecture:
Europe including Germany is rich on castles which have
been built centuries ago.
The state of Bavaria is blessed with castles which were
built by the “mad” King Ludwig in the 19th century.
“Neu Schwanstein” is one of the most well known
tourist attractions and inspired Walt Disney, similar as
many German fairy tales did.
Before we offer this mold, we must ensure that we do
not run into any legal problems.
However, we already sell cookie molds which show the
famous “Burg Hohenzollern”.
Again check the Internet to learn more about the history
of this castle which is located close to Stuttgart.
Maybe you will even consider a visit when you plan a
trip to Germany. There is so much to see and to do and
if you act smart economical dine where the local people
dine, stay in a “Pension” which is the German
equivalent to a B&B, but most of the time less
expensive.

The Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Thuringia
was the place were Martin Luther translated the
New Testament from Greek into German.
We visited the Wartburg during one of our trips
through Thuringia.
Our plans are to add houses, churches,
cathedrals from France, such as “Notre Dame”,
the Capitol Building etc.
Everything depends of how our business is

The carving of the “Tempelhaus Neckarelz” was
requested by another customer from Germany who
allowed Dukasi to sell replicas.

The building is a church which is based on a castle in
which “the knights of St. John” lived.
The castle changed ownership a few times and the name
“Tempelhaus” was first time recorded in 1581.

One of our customers asked about a humming bird
mold.
My wife has such a motive in stained glass. The
Dukasi proposal is based on this. I will check to avoid
that we violate any copy rights.
I do not know how old our “family piece” is.
Our inventory of Swiss made bird molds is rapidly
depleting and for that reason we want to add motifs
which were selling well, such as:
a turkey, a duck family, love birds, a swan, a parrot,
an American eagle, a blue heron.
In order to become less dependant from the
Christmas season, we are experimenting also using
our molds in other ways.

Country Home:
Our Swiss made replicas of this category are almost sold out. This
group of molds contained many bestsellers and we must add some
new motifs of our own product line.
We are considering the following molds:
A woman spinning, doing needle work, a grandfather clock, baking
bread in a wood fired oven, farmers at lunch.
Please give us suggestions, but do not expect that we can offer
these molds immediately. We are still in a recession and money is
always a deciding factor.
The “English tea pot” was proposed by one of our good customers.
It quickly became one of our best selling molds.

Country Living:
We assume that this category will again contain most of the molds. Our selection is based on which motifs were
requested in our previous product line.
In addition, we listened to our customers and added new ones.
Whenever we show sketches prepared by Dukasi, please comment on those by e-mail. You can also suggest new
designs. We listen gladly to you.
We only must ask you to be patient. To carve a detailed mold is very time consuming and the money which we can
spend is limited.
But so far, we are extremely happy that our own line of molds has been received very well - in North America as
well as in Europe, where our partner Dukasi offers them.
In the beginning we were anxious because we did not want to imitate the look of wood. The use of shellac allows
much easier imprinting and also all the fine details of the hand carved wooden originals are still shown

because Elizabeth, my wife, is a cat lover that will be at the top of the list. This may help her and her organization

Fables / Fairy Tales:
Many of the well known Fairy tales come from Europe. In Germany the Grimm brothers and others collected them
and wrote them down. Certain stories vary from country to country or even from region to region.
Walt Disney was fascinated in them and created many movies. No wonder that many North Americans believe that
all the characters have been created by him. They are wrong - he made them popular and generations enjoyed his
work.
Later we will also will bring motifs from stories which are not so well known in North America. We have checked
them and we want to provide helpful information.
This can include characters from the fairy tales written by the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.

Halloween is slowly getting popular in
Europe. When I was living in Germany I had
never heard about it and please believe me
we start early to have fun and as kids we
loved sweets as much as other children
everywhere. We never would have missed
the chance to get dressed up and collect
chocolates, candies and all kind of goodies.
We personally like all the sketches. But

Olli Leeb was the person who initiated our Springerle business many years ago. We sold a great line of gifts
which we imported from Europe.
Table linen, cutlery, cook books, artist dolls, candles, Christmas ornaments from Thuringia, miniatures from the
Erzgebirge, cuckoo clock, angora underwear, hand puppets, teddy bears - you name it.
When people saw the pictures of the Springerle on Olii Leeb’s book they asked for the molds and our Springerle
mold business started hand in hand with our Internet activities.
Professions:
So far we cannot offer any of our own replicas in this category. However, we may be able to that in the future
because we are almost sold out with the molds from our previous Swiss supplier.
We learned that our customers loved the different old trades which still have not disappeared.

Religion:
When Springerle became popular in Europe many
Christian motives were carved.
I do not know how many hours were required to create the
detailed large molds in medieval times.
The originals are either kept in museums or by collectors.
Our friend Ken Hamilton has spent much time and money
to show the English speaking world some of these
treasures.
For making his “edible art cookies” however, he uses
replicas.

our Springerle cookie molds is all done
by hand. No routers or computer
controlled machinery is used.
You will find detailed information about
this time consuming process in our
web site. Many hours are required to
create an original mold.
In addition, for the casting of the
replicas a bubble free silicone mold is
required which can only be used for a
limited number of castings.
