Senior Resources are
Only a Phone Call or
Mouse Click Away!
As people age, it can be tricky to navigate the wide
variety of questions and concerns that go hand-inhand with the aging process. Senior citizens and
their loved ones have many resources available to
assist them with day-to-day life all the way from
the national level to right here at home. Naperville
is a community that warmly embraces seniors and
“baby boomers” and wants to help connect them
to information about these available services.
The City of Naperville and Naperville Park District have joined together to provide seniors
with a convenient way to access this information. The City of Naperville recently launched a
comprehensive webpage at www.naperville.il.us/
seniorservices.aspx that provides relevant phone
numbers, webpages and descriptions of services
offered to seniors by category. Where appropriate, the pages guide a visitor to the appropriate
provider of the service, be it the City, township,
county or state. Categories include:
• care options
• education
• elder rights
• emergency
preparedness
• employment
• financial assistance
and taxes
• food assistance
• general information
• health benefits
• household
maintenance assistance
• housing
• legal assistance
• life safety
• recreation
• transportation
• utility assistance
• veterans assistance
• volunteerism
Along with the webpage, the Naperville Park District will have volunteers and staff available to help
seniors navigate the website or provide resource
contact information. For assistance, or if you have
any suggestions or feedback regarding additional
services to be listed on the webpage, please call
(630) 848-3613 or stop by the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center at 305 W. Jackson Ave.

Tai Chi: For Health BenefitsLevel 1
Memoirs of a WWII
Bombardier
In 1942, Naperville resident Glenn W. King
was in his first semester at the University of Wyoming-Laramie when he joined the United States Army
Air Forces. He became a bombardier with the 385th
Bombardment Group flying from England’s Great
Ashfield airbase. On his twenty-third combat mission,
Glenn’s plane was shot down near Oschatz, Germany.
He was picked up by the Wehrmacht and sent to Stalag
Luft XIIID, a prisoner of war camp in Nuremberg. Starvation was the order of the day. Forced to march more
than one hundred miles to Stalag Luft VIIA in Moosburg, Glenn and his fellow officers began to “liberate”
potatoes and turnips (and the occasional chicken) from
the farmers along the roadway. A can of tuna, part of a
Red Cross food parcel, was tucked into his sodden coat
pocket. Every morning, he vowed to hold on to it for
just one more day. Come hear Glenn’s incredible story
of resilience in the waning days of World War II and
his safe return home to complete college and pursue an
engineering career in the petroleum industry. Sue Johnpeter, the author and biographer of Glenn’s story, “No
Ordinary Life: Memoir of a WWII Bombardier” will
be on-site to join him in his discussion. Presentation

between the fans of these two storied teams. This cultural exposé covers all the bases of the crosstown rivalry
to examine concepts of loyalty and fandom through
videos of each team’s colorful supporters as well as
interviews with former players, sports journalists and
broadcasters. Major historical storylines including the
Cubs vs. Sox World Series, the Cubs as baseball’s first
dynasty, the Black Sox scandal, Harry Carey and more
also are covered. Enjoy a baseball-themed lunch on
site with cheddar cheese burgers on pretzel buns, brats,
potato salad, homemade potato chips, cookies and
brownies, soda, coffee and tea. Following lunch, experience a history of beer presentation with images that will
take you from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia to the
modern era. Taste portions of four beers that highlight

Featuring ensemble members Francis Guinan and John
Mahoney, The Herd is a deftly comic play about the challenges of reconciliation, the power of shared memories
and the irresistible pull of family. It’s Andy’s 21st birthday and preparations for the party are underway, but
Andy and his caregiver are running late. As his family
gathers, two unexpected guests appear straining the delicate family dynamic. With a deft comic touch, The Herd
introduces us to a suburban English family who have
had to reorganize themselves around the extraordinary
needs of one of their own. Seats are on the main floor.

Wandering Tree
Estate
Super Couponing Workshop 2
North Barrington, Illinois
Located in Lake County, Wandering Tree Estate is a
luxury private estate that has some of the most beautiful scenery in the area. Scenic Railways, created by renowned artist and designer Elaine Silets, quietly weave
paths throughout the Wandering Tree multi-acre, estate
gardens and grounds. Elaine will give a 15-minute talk
about her creations. The remainder of the time will be
on your own to explore the grounds. Group will receive
a map of the grounds showing the different gardens and
points of interest such as an extremely rare American
Chestnut tree and a 450 year-old Burr Oak tree. This
is a heavy activity level as the ground can be uneven in
many areas. Proceed to Chessie’s Restaurant, located
in Barrington’s turnof-the-century railroad station,
for lunch. On our return trip, we will make a stop at
Norton’s USA, a uniquely American general store. If
dropping off a form, mark your choice of turkey club
sandwich, grilled crab salad sandwich or vegetable
quiche. Price includes entrance to Wandering Tree
