Dear Capital City Shag Club members and friends,
The purpose of the club
shall be to promote
fellowship and harmony
among its members, to
preserve shag dancing
and beach music, and to
introduce shagging to
juniors and others
through social and
charitable events and
workshops.
I hope you all had a chance to attend our Eighth Anniversary
Party. As usual the food was excellent and plentiful, so
thanks go to Wayne Stephens for making the arrangements
with Little Pig BBQ. The music by our DJ, Jimmy Munn was
great as it always is. My thanks to Betty Jeffcoat for helping set up; to Ola Mae Ellisor
for handling the dessert table; to Lynn Betterley at the Registration table; to the food
servers: Roxanne Burkett, Pat Williams, Wade Wolverton and Wayne Stephens; and to
Betty Jeffcoat for serving the drinks. A big THANK YOU to all of you.
Capital City Club Our members partied with the members of Capital City Club on
September 24. Thanks to Jimmy Munn and Barney Mims for providing the music.
Shag Extravaganza VIII Plans are underway for our next Park and Party weekend
which will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel on Bush River Road and at the Jamil Shrine
Center. The dates are March 31 andApril 1 at the DoubleTree and April 2 at Jamil. Look
for the Flyer in this issue for more details.

Shaggin’ on Main September 10 Mark your calendar and plan to attend as Columbia
Mayor Steve Benjamin and the Capital City Shag Club host this celebration of the SC
state dance at the corner of Main and Hampton and in the Marriott Hotel. Bring the
family for a fun-filled day with free shag lessons, an amateur dance contest and the
Sensational Epics playing in the Marriott from 6 — 10 PM. Go to our web site for more
information.

grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends). Jeremy Webb and Kalin Ellis who are the
2016 National Shag Dance Champions in the Non-Pro Division are scheduled to teach.

Upcoming General Membership Meetings I will be looking for all our members to
attend the General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, August 17. The Nominating
Committee will present the current slate of candidates for the 2017 Executive Board.
The 2017 Board will be elected at the November 16 General Membership Meeting.

Capital City Shag Club and Columbia
Mayor Steve Benjamin invite you to
Shaggin' on Main on September 10 to
celebrate the South Carolina State Dance -The Shag. Meet us at the corner of Main
and Hampton for a fun-filled day. Admission
is free. Our Deejays will be playing shag
music all afternoon. Free shag and line
dance lesson in the Marriott and an
amateur shag contest. The fun continues in
the Marriott starting at 5:00 PM.Order and
enjoy delicious food and drink and then stay
to listend and dance to the fabulous, award
winning Sensational Epics band.
