Congrats to ‘PurplenGold’ Mike Atkins from Floyds Knobs, IN who won our Week 8 Weekly Contest! $300 and a Million $ Qualifier Team valued at $109. Our own Scott Atkins sat down with Mike (his cousin) about his big win. Happy for you man. We've been playing fantasy football together for what, 16 years now? What feels better, winning our home league back in 2009 or winning this challenge and possibly having a shot at the Million $ Week 16 prize? Winning our home league gives us bragging rights. But winning a million would be life changing so this challenge against some of the most skilled players feels great. Who were your big superstars this past week and why did you select them over others? Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant and Rookie Andre Ellington. Calvin and Dez both had great match ups and the stage was set for both to show they were the elite receiver in the NFL. As for Rookie Andre Ellington he got the start with Mendy out with a toe injury. He was set to have a break out game and show his elite speed and quickness. Why did you decide to pony up the $10 and play the Weekly FFToolbox Game at DraftKings? For fun mostly. I didn’t expect to win right off the bat. The website and contests on DraftKings and FFToolbox are easy to access and set up great. I also enjoy the articles on FFToolbox so I thought I’d take a shot and see if I liked it. You've been playing it now for three weeks. What have you learned about the game that could help others that are thinking about playing it? There is a contest for everyone but take your time and pick the one for you. I recommend anyone who hasn't at least tried a contest to give it a try even if you’re a beginner. Have you identified any value plays that you're pretty confident will make it in your lineup this week? I like to wait and see the injury reports but rookies are really making an impact this year and shouldn't be overlooked. Last question, what would you do if you won the Million $ Week 16 Championship? First I would take my beautiful wife who supports me so much on a much needed vacation. The rest I would invest and try to make a better future for my family and others. Good luck this weekend Mike! Knock it down! Spots are limited to 100 entries. Lock in your spot and set your lineup sometime before Kickoff Sunday. Stuck trying to figure out WHO to start this week? Might see Jeff Tuel get the start this week. Dal WR Miles Austin did not practice. Terrance Williams remains a must start. NYJ TE Jeff Cumberland did not practice and is not expected to play this week. KC RB Jamaal Charles did not practice due to a sore knee. CAR RB DeAngelo Williams did not practice. Tolbert is ready and possibly Jonathan Stewart who is practicing might see the field this week. DAL RB DeMarco Murray is practicing and is expected to play. This Week’s Fantasy Headlines Rams RB Zac Stacy misses Wednesday practice The BoxScore: The Rams finally got a 100-yard game from Stacy and take note, that came against Seattle. No easy task. Just like that, he's injured and could miss their Week 9 game against Tennessee. If Stacy is unable to play, Daryl Richardson will tote the rock. Fantasy owners should pick him up if they're in serious need of a replacement starter although expectations should be low considering Richardson's unimpressive start to this season. Eagles name QB Nick Foles starter in Week 9 The BoxScore: Vick's career looks just about over with the Eagles. He wore down especially fast this year and with the Eagles only mathematically eligible for a playoff run, it is best to evaluate their QB prospects between Foles and Matt Barkley. Foles gives the team the best chance to win right now and Barkely will get his opportunities sooner or later. Neither quarterback has cemented the position though, so we'll see how this plays out in the second half of the '13 season. Foles is a sneaky QB2 with higher upside when the matchup works in his favor. Texans RBs Arian Foster & Ben Tate game-time decisions The BoxScore: Through seven games, Foster only has one touchdown. In his last two seasons, over 29 games, he scored 30 TDs. This huge and significant dropoff makes Foster a mediocre fantasy RB2 in most weeks and it doesn't help his case that his touches are declining as well. Barring a huge turnaround, Foster should float in and out of your lineup based on matchup. Tate is the guy you want to own short-term. The reports suggest Tate is the more likely to start of the two. Patriots RB Shane Vereen back at practice The BoxScore: Snag Vereen if he's sitting on your waiver wire. He can be an instant starter for many teams, especially in PPR. The Patriots offense isn't playing up to its typical standards, but once Vereen returns, all their key pieces will be healthy. In New England's regular season opener, Vereen earned 21 touches for 159 total yards. He's coming back just in time to make a run at a playoff spot. ______________________________________________________________________________ Buccaneers HC Greg Schiano says RB Doug Martin will 'hopefully ... play soon' The BoxScore: Martin has a torn shoulder labrum, and he's basically out indefinitely. One report last week stated that Martin will be out for a period between two-to-eight weeks. Unfortunately, the lack of certainty means you should hang on to Martin unless you are in a very shallow league. Mike James will continue to handle the majority of the carries while Brian Leonard gets on the field for third downs. James gained 64 yards on 14 touches in Week 8 versus the Panthers. He is a low-end RB2 for this week's game at Seattle. Report: Seahawks WR Sidney Rice has torn ACL The BoxScore: Another devastating knee injury for Rice accompanies his third concussion, at least, in the past two years. His future is way, way up in the air, but he was just a WR4 in fantasy. The Seahawks now have an even greater need for wide receiver Percy Harvin , who may play as soon as this weekend. Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin should also see more targets. Steelers WR Markus Wheaton could return Wk 9 The BoxScore: Wheaton's fantasy value is limited to dynasty leagues. Pittsburgh provides enough production for Antonio Brown and on occasion, Emmanuel Sanders . Beyond that, you're just gambling and hoping for a big game. Pittsburgh ranks 13th in passing yards per game (253.4). With Sanders playing on a one-year deal, Wheaton could move up on the depth chart next year if the Steelers opt to allow Sanders to hit free agency. Giants RB David Wilson to be re-evaluated, RB Andre Brown back Week 10 The BoxScore: There's no need to rush Harvin. Seattle remains one of the elite teams in the league without him and has everything to gain by simply waiting this one out. That's not to say the 'Hawks couldn't use a little extra help in their passing attack. The team relies on efficiency as opposed to explosive big plays or risk-taking decisions by Russell Wilson . Before his injury a year ago, Harvin was on a Top 5 WR and should be rostered in all leagues right now. Seahawks WR Percy Harvin suffers small setback The BoxScore: I'm not sure what the Browns are expecting back. Are they holding out for a first-round or second-round pick? It seems like a second rounder would be a pretty good offer, but I'm no NFL GM. A few playoff-bound teams could certainly use a push in the passing game. The Colts just lost Reggie Wayne for the season. San Francisco only hasAnquan Boldin under contract for one more season and who knows how much longer he'll play anyway. Green Bay doesn't "need" a WR, but they're battling with injuries. He could go anywhere and help anybody as far as I'm concerned. Gordon is a top dynasty player and his value would skyrocket if he landed in a real offense. Bengals WR Marvin Jones played 19 snaps in Week 8 The BoxScore: If you want to be really optimistic, you can say that any receiver targeted on more than 40 percent of his snaps is going to be a fantasy monster. But in reality, this was a freak occurrence, and you shouldn't overspend on Jones. This kind of game should lead to more playing time -- how do you not reward such a dominant, four-score performance? But Cincinnati will likely keep a rotation going at its No. 2 wide receiver spot. Plus, the Bengals will welcome wide receiverAndrew Hawkins back into game action perhaps as soon as this week. He has missed the entire season thus far due to an ankle injury. Add Jones from your league's market, but consistent production is going to be difficult for him to achieve. Texans QB Case Keenum will start, despite QB Matt Schaub being healthy The BoxScore: This is a rather bizarre story. Most injury reports can be boiled down to "Player X injured his Y and could return by Z." A false report to mask the team's interest in starting Keenum over Schaub? Makes you wonder how legit every injury is if teams are willing to fib to give another guy a chance. In any case, Keenum probably does deserve a second opportunity. He went undrafted out of the University of Houston, where he was incredibly prolific statistically, and spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad. With the Texans cooled on Schaub, it is Keenum's job for the forseeable future. Browns will roll with QB Jason Campbell in Week 9 The BoxScore: Since that Week 1 drubbing, Baltimore has only allowed four TD passes over their last six games. That said, Cleveland only lost by eight points in Week 2 against the Ravens and Brandon Weeden started in that game. Will Campbell throw for nearly 300 yards and two TDs every week? Of course not, but it was a promising game especially for a team that has grown far too accustomed to subpar QB play. Campbell is worth a speculative add in deeper formats. Pats WR Kenbrell Thompkins barely plays, WR Aaron Dobson leads group in snaps The BoxScore: Here's the full breakdown for WRs: Dobson 50, Amendola 39, Collie 33, Edelman 33, and Thompkins 14. The passing game never really got off the ground as Tom Brady only finished with 116 passing yards, marking the third time he's finished with less than 200 yards. Brady only threw for under 200 once in his past two seasons. Given Brady's up-and-down year, injuries coming and going in the receiving corps, none of these guys are all that appealing as a consistent fantasy starter. Each week it seems someone else steps up. Even Rob Gronkowski played fewer snaps than Michael Hoomanawanui. Good luck if you choose to roll with any of them. Lions WR Nate Burleson aiming for Week 10 The BoxScore: Burleson has some, but not very much potential in PPR leagues as a bench player. The bulk of this offense obviously flows through Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush . This leaves Burleson competing for limited touches with guys like Joique Bell and Brandon Pettigrew. Look at Burleson as a bye week fill-in if the matchup is right in that given week. This moves Kris Durham to the No. 3 WR spot and out of fantasy consideration. Nascar Picks for Fort Worth After back-to-back races at Talladega and Martinsville, the Cup Series gets back to its bread and butter this weekend with a trip to the always fast Texas Motor Speedway.
