Mandarin
On September 8th, students in
1st grade through 4th grade
celebrated Chinese Mid-Autumn
Festival (中秋節 Zhongqiu Jie)
which is also known as Moon
Festival, the second most
important festival after Chinese
New Year to Chinese people.
Most of the students heard for the first time the story about the
archer Houyi (后羿) and his wife Chang’e (嫦娥), the goddess of
the moon. Each grade did crafts and art work after storytelling, from making a lantern, drawing Chang’e Flying to the Moon
(嫦娥奔月), creating the pattern for moon cake and making a jade
rabbit by pounding herbs (玉兔捣药). To reward
their hard work, students enjoyed a piece of moon cake.

You are invited to our Family Dance on Sept. 27!
Dear Marin Waldorf Community,
We have learned over the years that when
we come together to sing, dance, and share
a meal, we weave a stronger community.
Old friendships are deepened. New friendships begin.
This gathering will be a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to come and enjoy each other’s company, dance and sing
together and share a meal. We welcome all
new and returning families to join us.
Jerry Allen, will be leading the dancing. He and his merry musicians have led country dances
during our May Faire every year. The dances are simple; anyone of any age can participate.
Children delight in having these moments of community with their friends and all. Please be
assured that no experience is required! Just an open heart and a willingness to give it a
whirl!
A light dinner will be sold by Mrs. Krikorian’s Seventh Grade Class. Please support the students’ efforts to raise funds for their 8th Grade trip. The students (and their parents) will be
working hard over the next two years to earn money to contribute to their final trip together.
Let’s put our community effort behind them!
Warmly,
The Friends of Social Inclusion and the Seventh Grade Class
The Marin Waldorf School

Marin Waldorf School Children’s Faire
Save the weekend- October 11th & 12th
The campus transformation will begin
on Saturday at 9:00 am.
The Children’s Faire is on Sunday
from 10:00 am-4:00 pm.
The MWS Children’s Faire is our biggest event of the year and a wonderful community
building opportunity. Each year, we transform our campus into a magical wonderland
that welcomes hundreds of children and their parents.
The Children’s Faire is simply not possible without your support! Thank you to the
courageous parent volunteers who have stepped up as Class Faire Representatives. You
can support them by signing up for task & faire booth shifts.
Help spread the word by passing out postcards to your friends and family or by posting flyers in businesses that you frequent. The postcards and posters will be available in
the front office soon.

Two Calls For Help
Organizing The New Costume Closet
Dear Parents Do you love theatre? Are you handy? Are you super organized? Do you want to offer time
to a very worthy school task? If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions, we could use
your help with our Costume Closet renovation.
As you probably know, each year our students put on a class play. The school has a store of
costumes that range from elegant Shakespearean dresses and hats to animal heads and
Greek togas. Many of our parents have helped in gleaning and cleaning these costumes.
Our school finally has secured additional space to relocate and store this treasure trove of
props and material, but we need HELP. Already a few parents have gathered to see the new
storage space and we all agree that with a little elbow grease and determination, this idea of
a beautiful home for your children's class costumes could be reality. We need people who
can clean and carry - or make lists, or hang clothing, or label, etc......
Contact Denise Deneaux at [email protected] if you are interested. Please
forward contact information and what your skills and time commitment could be. We could
use people who want to work for an hour as well as people who like to head up multifaceted projects. ~ Gracias!
A message from Ms. Weiler our Eurythmy Teacher
Dear Parents and Friends of Marin Waldorf School,
I will be looking for temporary housing this year during my
Eurythmy Blocks. Housing could be a minimum of three
weeks or more. If you or anyone you know are aware of a
spare room, studio, grandmother house, or even a houseboat please contact me! I will be here for the three weeks
of school in December, away for the holidays, then returning again Jan. 12 until May 3. I am willing to live with a family or alone. Modest accommodations are fine. Thanks for
keeping me in mind; finding housing in this area is not possible without help from friends!
Please contact me at [email protected].
School Portraits are NEXT WEEK!
The photographer is requesting 2 volunteers per portrait day in
exchange for a $70 credit towards your photo order.
These volunteer positions are first-come, first-serve. If you are
interested, please email [email protected] and tell me which
day you would like to volunteer.

Torin Finser to Hold California Book Tour This Month
Torin Finser, Antioch University professor and national expert in Waldorf
education, will soon travel to the Bay Area from September 14 to 16, 2014
for a book tour and signing of his latest book, A Second Classroom: ParentTeacher Relationships in a Waldorf School.Finser’s book features a comprehensive examination of the parent-teacher relationship in all its dimensions, from parent evenings and conferences to communication, conflict,
and the life-cycle of parent involvement in their school.
In his latest book, Finser asks: What does a healthy, successful school look
like? Is it is all about measurable outcomes, test scores, and pass/fail
grades set by the government? Can learning be quantified in short-term
measurements or does real learning take years to manifest in a career or
biography? A Second Classroom is intended to stimulate conversation, self
-reflection and relational practices that awaken community life in and
around our schools.
Finser’s book tour includes the following locations:
September 14 at 7:00 pm: The Waldorf School of the Peninsula, Los Altos, CA
September 15 at 3:00 pm: The San Francisco Waldorf School, San Francisco, CA
September 16 at 8:30 am: Camellia Waldorf School, Sacramento, CA
September 16 at 3:00 pm: Davis Waldorf School, Davis, CA
September 16 at 7:00 pm: Sacramento Waldorf School, Fair Oaks, CA
Dr. Finser is Chair of the Education Department of Antioch University New England and founding member of
the Center for Anthroposophy in Wilton, NH. He has been an educator for three decades and has been a
keynote speaker at conferences in China, Korea, Nepal, South Africa, Norway, England, Switzerland, Canada,
and throughout the United States. He has also served as an organizational consultant for a variety of
schools. Leadership development and support is a theme that runs through many of his books. Dr. Finser
serves as General Secretary of the Anthroposophical Society in America. He is the author of Silence Is Complicity: A Call to Let Teachers Improve Our Schools through Action Research—Not NCLB (2007); Organizational Integrity: How to Apply the Wisdom of the Body to Develop Healthy Organizations (2007); In Search of
Ethical Leadership: If Not Now, When? (2003); School Renewal: A Spiritual Journey for Change (2001); and
