Letter From the
President
Dear Chamber members,
Thank you for your chamber
membership
and
continued
support of the Platteville business
community!
Platteville Community Recognized
As 2014 Choice Destination By
Discover Wisconsin!
The Platteville Regional Chamber
contracted with DiscoverMedia
Works in 2013 to be part of a
motorcycling episode on Discover
Wisconsin
entitled
“Western
Wisconsin Ride”. The production
crew from Discover Wisconsin was
in town several days last summer
and fall to film the episode. The
premiere of the episode was held
at the Platteville Avalon Cinema as
part of the first “Kickstart to Tourism
Festival” on Saturday, May 3rd.
The contract with Discover
Wisconsin is not just the TV program
as it encompasses many venues.
When it shows on television (three
times over the next two years), it
reaches 11.5 million homes in the
states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa,
Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota
and South Dakota!
They have a website and our
episode will be showcased on that
site – www.discoverwisconsin.com
– for the full two years. It is up on
their website as we speak!
The contract also includes radio,
press releases, calendar of events,
web integration, vacation packages
and e-newsletters. So, in the next
two years, our community will be
promoted in a multitude of ways
through Discover Wisconsin!
Discover Wisconsin celebrated its
25th anniversary in 2013 and is the
leading travel destination media
service in the State of Wisconsin.
It has a national broadcast quality
television program that blankets
the Midwest and highlights our
community’s tourism offerings.
This is the third time that we have
had the opportunity to work with
Discover Wisconsin and we trust
that the investment we made will
come back many-fold.
Be sure to tune in to watch the
debut of our episode on Saturday,
May 10th!!!! Platteville is once
again a Discover Wisconsin “Choice
Destination”!
It was great to see everyone at
the “Kick Start Tourism” festival on
Saturday, May 3. This was a fun
family friendly event and we look
forward to it continuing on an
annual basis.
The Discover Wisconsin episode
featuring some of our local
celebrities motorcycling in SW WI
turned out really nice. Thank you to
the Avalon Theater for showing this
through the day Saturday.
We want to say thank you to Dunkin
Donuts for hosting our April
business after hours. The Business
After Hours events are a great way
to network and meet new people
in our community. We encourage
you to attend these whenever you
can.
There are a number of chamber
committees that are looking for
additional volunteers to help them
complete their objectives. If you
have an interest in getting more
involved in the chamber through
volunteering on a committee
please contact the chamber office
for details.
Sincerely,
Aaron Cullen

The
Chamber’s
Education
Committee has a great program
going in 2014! On the 4th Thursday
of each month, our Good Morning
Platteville program takes place at
Take 2 Restaurant at 7:30AM. This
program was developed with the
mission of partnering with other
organizations to bring valued topics
to the membership.
In the first program in February, we
heard many details of the fundraising
efforts for the Rountree Branch Trail
which includes upgrades to the
trail. The presentation by PCA board
member, Gene Weber, was a very
informative program. The second
program covered our community’s
disaster plan which was an
extremely timely presentation.
Representatives from the City,
public schools, Southwest Health
Center and the County’s Emergency
Management Office gave us a ‘birdseye’ view of their respective plans.
The Platteville Police Department
has encouraged everyone to sign
up for an alert system available via
email or text message. The system
is called NIXLE and is free of charge.
This is a great service that gives us
a ‘heads up’ when things happen in
the community.
Our program on May 22nd will
center on the real estate economy
– what is the market here like in
Platteville, both residential and
commercial? What do the spring’s
building permits tell us about how
things are going? Are we in a ‘buyers’
or a ‘sellers’ market? This should be
very timely to hear as we know that
the real estate economy does tell a
significant story about the rest of
the economy.
Please plan to join us on May 22nd
for our next program! If you have
ideas for future presentations,
please give us a call.

Plattevillle”

Driftless Summer
Ride
The Driftless Summer Ride is a promotion
to encourage traveling throughout
southwest Wisconsin. Unlike a familiar
‘poker run’, which usually lasts one day, the
Driftless Summer Ride promotion runs from
May 3rd -July 19th so it gives everyone
time to visit all, or at least a majority of the
businesses.
The promotion includes a card that
can be purchased for $10 and includes
28 businesses throughout southwest
Wisconsin. When one visits a business,
it is stamped. The drawing for the prizes
will take place on Saturday, July 19th at
5:00PM at Platteville’s Hometown Hog
Roast. Winners need not be present to win.
Prizes include overnight stays, restaurant
coupons, etc., place with1st place - $500 in
value; 2nd $250 value; and 3rd place- $100
value.
The proceeds of the sale of the Driftless
Summer Ride will benefit the communities
of the Southwest Wisconsin Chamber
Alliance. For each card sold in a particular
community, $5 will be coming back to that
community for its veterans’ memorial or
project. Cards are available at participating
businesses and at the participating
chambers. Members of the Southwest
Wisconsin Chamber Alliance include Prairie
du Chien, Cuba City, Darlington, Mineral
Point, Dodgeville, Fennimore, Lancaster
and Platteville. For further information, or
