the galatta girl!
the end of a year
The last couple of months of the year always slow me down to the speed of seeping molasses. The
cold (well, as cold as it can get in Chennai!), wet weather simply curls my toes and ensures that I
can’t think beyond innumerable hot teas, samosas and a good movie in the afternoons. Still, I did
my damnedest to drag my muddy brain to thoughts of the year gone by up to now. November is
a slightly frenetic month; at least in the South Indian movie industry.
This is the month to make up for the Deepavali fiasco, the December crush and the Pongal tidal
wave. It’s the month where you can see many of the movies that haven’t released all year trying
to make up for lost time and footfalls; small- to medium-budget producers lamenting on how best to Deepavali Galatta with actors Mahat and Aadith
release their movies without being crushed by the Pongal/Sankaranth mega-releases; and the producers who had planned and intended to release
their projects this month always wonder how to survive or escape the bottleneck with these back-loggers! This November too, South India continues
with this trend. Osthe, scheduled to release at the end of October, is only releasing at the end of November; while Mayakkam Enna is oscillating
between November, December and 2012. The trend continues in Telugu, with Nagarjuna’s Rajanna, Naga Chaitanya’s Bejawada and Balakrishna’s Sri
Rama Rajyam all pushed to November or December. As for the Deepavali releases, 7aum Arivu has got mixed reviews, Velayudham is the surprise
(or is it?) hit for the season and the incredibly gigantic Ra.One is not exactly a dud, but is also not soaring. Andhra Pradesh sadly had no actual
Deepavali releases - but the Telangana unrest allows us to give them the benefit of the doubt. The Hollywood releases, though, are doing some
rocking business. Something to do with the quality of movies (I ask, tongue-in-cheek!)?
Sigh. I just wanted to watch a nice Southie movie on these clammy afternoons. But thanks to our movie marketing politics that has ensured that
hardly any newer movies are available legally as DVDs and CDs in stores even months, nay, years after its release, the DVD pirates continue to rule!
Despite all of my gloomy aforementioned statements, our November GC seems jam-packed! The pretty Richa shows us how she’s a force to reckon
with in this industry, lovely Poonam Kaur in a moodily sensual photofeature, pages and pages of movie info, young rising stars like Vikram Prabhu
and Sathya speak up, technical wizards Praveen, Srikanth (Editors) and Madhie (cinematographer) share their experiences and our impeccable guest
writers continue to enthrall us with their wisdom.
Not bad for a November, what? Enjoy, me hearties!

double dhamaka
I could get used to this double
issue business. Just loved Sameera
and Nagarjuna on the covers
of your October double issue.
It was indeed Diwali before the
actual celebrations started. Keep
these double issues coming. I am
loving it!

Sanaa Khan sizzled
It had been long time since we
saw Sanaa Khan on screen, but
you made her come alive in the
pages of your magazine. WOW!!
Is she hot or what. A super sexy
photo feature.

3 times the fun!
I did not expect to see an
interview with debutante
director Aishwarya Dhanush,
especially since not much has
been revealed about her movie
with hubby Dhanush. But you
guys managed to pull off a coup.
Not only was the interview an
interesting read, but exclusive
pics from the movie and on
location pics were an added
treat. Keep many more such
interesting features and never
before seen pics coming for fans
like me.Keep it up!

Loving the articles by
the guest writers. Please
feature many more such
interesting articles.

Ravishing rima!
Thank you for the interesting
interview with the talented
actress Rima Kallingal. Galatta
Cinema does not feature stars
from Malayalam cinema that
often and being a Malayali that
has been my biggest regret, even
though I am a regular reader of
the magazine. But when I saw
Rima’s interview in the October
issue I was happy. Please keep
featuring many more stars from
Malayalam cinema, it would be
wonderful to read about them
- Vinodhini Nair, Cochin
Dear Vinodhini,
Thanks for your feedback.
We definitely want to feature
stars from all four South movie
industries in our magazine and
will surely include many more
Malayalam stars. Keep sending
your suggestions and ideas to us. It
only helps us make the magazine
better.

SRK meets Superstar
Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan, who was in Chennai to launch the Tamil audio of
Ra.One, met Superstar Rajinikanth during his visit. SRK spent about 15 minutes at his
residence enquiring after the star’s health status. Rajinikath travelled to Mumbai, inspite
of his health troubles, to complete his shoot (cameo appearance) for SRK ’s Ra. One.
“I just wish I can be as humble as Rajni Sir some day. He’s a fantastic human being. He
has touched my life in more ways than one,” SRK was quoted saying. Interestingly Rajni
appears as Chitti (his character from Enthiran) in Shahrukh’s Ra.One. And the response
to his appearance in the movie has been amazing, especially from Rajni fans.

The man with the Midas’ Touch, Suriya
seems to be working his wonder at the
Box Office yet again with his Deepavali
release 7Aum Arivu. His next will be with
Maatraan, directed by K.V. Anand. Kajal
Aggarwal is the heroine. It is also heard
that Suriya has shown interest in two
new projects, one of them with National
Award winning Director Bala, with whom
he is aiming for a hat-trick after having
already churned out super hit movies like
Pithamagan and Nandha, and another
with Venkat Prabhu. Inside sources reveal
that initial talks are on between Suriya
and Bala and that the project might go
on floors once Suriya completes his
current projects. Venkat Prabhu, who
recently brought together Ajith and Arjun
in Mankatha, reportedly met Suriya and
floored him with a one-line script, which
will bring together Suriya and action hero
Ravi Teja onscreen for the first
time. The additional buzz is that Studio
Green, owned by Suriya’s cousin K.E.
Gnanavel Raja, would be producing this
bi-lingual thriller.
