We in the AFRASCOPE film unit are. presently involved in a video
•
project on the new constitution.AFRASCOPE i s an organisation
jj|
committed to change in South Africa and.we believe video can be
powerfully used to contribute to this end.We work closely with *
community organisations — and with other organisations working
for change in South Africa •Examples of our past work include
a video on the United Democratic Front's national launch and a
video entitled "Less Kent More Eealth" which documents the strugglles
of the people of Western Township. This project was done in close
conjunction with the Westbury Residents' Action Committee (WRAC).‘

We havw decided to produce .a video on the new constitution, which
is to be used in the anti-constitution campaign, both before and *
after the August elections. This video includes a legal explanation
of the constitution as well as the political,m oral, and community
implications of it.T he video w ill portray the fact that the new'-***
constitution not only affects Coloureds and Indians but also / •
Africans as w e ll.It further portrays the resistence of our people
against apartheid and particularly'to this constitution.lt is
-
therefore to be used to ep£ose the fraudulent nature of the new
■/constitution
to the people of South Africa.
j
The video is intended for distribution and use on a national- level.
The budget runs-at some R18ee-00 and we are unable to cover-these_____
expences.A grant of RIGOO-OO has been promised on condition we--- raise the R800-C0 balance.Hence we appeal for any contribution that
would facilitate the realisation toward this amount.Such contribution
would be appreciated.
In anticipation of your response.
Tours Sincerely
:
Adrian Perl^el

Dear Bishop Tutu
We are aware that AFRASCOPE intends to put together a Video around
the new constitution with a view to raising the level of critical .
understanding of the new deal in affected communities.% ;
* '
It.is our considered opinion that this 1s an Initiative that will -A
stand the struggle for a just order in good stead and thatthe
UDF's campaign against the new constitution will-benefit. 7 / v
