My experience with We the People
I would like to extend my gratitude to WE THE PEOPLE for providing me an
excellent platform to work with fellow citizens of India, community and all those
people who are fighting for their rights. The citizenship program provided
tools, that acted as a weapon to take this fight forward against the corruption, the
evils of society, area development, communal harmony, and national integration.
" We The People " has helped me as a hand holding partner.Whenever I organized
a citizenship program, I felt proud, as a responsible citizen of India. The most
memorable moment for me was when Vinita Singh introduced me to the work
that this organisation is doing & I will always cherish that moment.
CC PHENOMENON
Citizen Cafe @ MMSC Law College, Pune
50 citizens from MMSC Law College participated in a Citizen Cafe held in Pune.
The high points of the cafe were the discussions about the ''failure of
democracy''. The important issues that came up during the discussions were the
lack of implementation of RTE in private schools & different dimensions of Right to
Freedom in our lives. It was delightful to see that almost all the participants chose
the ''Value Of Equality'' when we conducted various exercises.
Citizenship Programme
Discussion around Civic Issues @Literacy India, Bhajgera, Gurgaon
In continuation to the Citizenship Programme, held at Literacy
India School, Bhajgera, Gurgaon a project was initiated by students regarding
the "Requirement of dustbins at different locations on the road near Literacy India”. In
this regard the students had earlier submitted an application to BDO. As a follow up to
that ,the students visited the BDO again but due the unavailability they went to take
forward the application to the DC. However, the DC further exclaimed that the problem
would be attended soon after the elections in the village & after the appointment of the
new Sarpanch for the Panchayat Body.
The student led movement -SAMVAAD @The Heritage School,
Gurgaon
Beyond the learning principles, practices, systems and pedagogies Samvaad, a
student led movement was held at Heritage School ,Gurgaon. The Launch of
Heritage Center for Active Citizenship began with the reading of the Constitution, that
picked up pace with students presenting the issues that bother them about their city
and where they would want to work upon . It was thrilling to see how well the
students brought up issues like: Road Safety, Unhygienic conditions of slums,
Women Safety, Improper Drainage System, Cruelty towards animals, Littering &
improper garbage disposal etc. after a group discussion. As a next step they have
decided to take upon 3-4 issues and as owners & active citizens, they would work
on solving the problems. Today there are 200 student volunteers, tomorrow it is these
students along with their parents, NGO's, RWA's, policy makers, civic authorities in
the field will make their city truly a Millennium city.

Right to education may apply from nursery to high
school
Taking a step closer to free and compulsory education for all, the NDA government is set to
examine a proposal to expand the Right to Education Act (RTE) from nursery to Class
10. The proposal came up for discussion when the Central Advisory Board of Education
(CABE) met on August 19 for the first time since the NDA came to power, sources
said. RTE’s extension to pre-schooling will bring under its ambit children of the poor who are
not able to send their kids to private school. Also, extending it till Class 10 will help contain
the dropout rate of children who quit school after Class 8 as they cannot afford the cost of
books and uniforms.
