Good People of Holy Cross,
Gente Buena de Holy Cross,
The main function of Holy Cross parish is simply
this: to give glory and praise to God. The rest of what
we do as a parish is gravy. The reason we exist is to
worship God. Period. When I was growing up we
studied the Baltimore catechism., we memorized
it. For those of you who don’t know, the Baltimore
catechism is a series of questions and answers about
everything we Catholics believe. First question: Who
made us? God made us. Second question: Who is
God? God is the Supreme Being the creator of heaven
and earth. Third question: Why did God make us? To
know, love, and serve Him in this world, so that we
can be supremely happy with Him in the next world.
Mysteries are apart of life, and Christian faith is not
about explanations, it is about experience. It is about
a relationship with the living God.
La función principal de la parroquia de Holy Cross es
simplemente esta: dar gloria y alabanza a Dios. El
resto de lo que hacemos como parroquia es salsa. La
razón de nuestra existencia es adorar a Dios. Punto.
Cuando yo estaba creciendo, estudié el Catecismo de
Baltimore., lo memorizamos. Para aquellos de ustedes
que no saben, el catecismo de Baltimore es una serie
de preguntas y respuestas acerca de todo lo que los
católicos creen. Primera pregunta: ¿Quién nos ha
hecho? Dios nos hizo. Segunda pregunta: ¿Quién es
Dios? Dios es el Ser Supremo, el creador del cielo y de
la tierra. Tercera pregunta: ¿Por qué nos hizo Dios?
Para Conocer, amar y servirle en este mundo, por lo
que podemos ser supremamente felices con Él en el
mundo venidero. Los Misterios son parte de la vida, y
la fe cristiana no se trata de explicaciones, se trata de
la experiencia. Se trata de una relación con el Dios
vivo.
God created everyone and everything and knows
everything. God’s fingerprint is on everything. You
know this. I know this. It’s one of the first things we
teach children. Why? because God fell in love with
us. After thousands of years of our being lost; after
thousands of years of not getting God's message;
after thousands of years of our wandering in the
wilderness trying to do things by ourselves, God
decided that the best way to demonstrate the love
that God has for us, was to send His Son, Jesus. A God
who wrapped himself in flesh and blood; stepped out
of heaven and into time to become one of us and walk
where we walk, and live as we live. A God who on the
cross, wrapped in our pain and suffering, willingly and
purposely put on the weight of our sin. And under
that weight, Jesus died so that we could see not only
that God is in love with us, but just how far God’s
willing to go for us. It’s all I need to know and believe.
We welcomed summer last Monday at 6:34PM, may
these warm days afford rejuvenation and goodness to
all!
Dios creó a todos y todo, y lo sabe todo. La huella
digital de Dios está en todo. Tú lo sabes. Yo se esto. Es
una de las primeras cosas que enseñamos a los niños.
¿Por qué? porque Dios se enamoró de nosotros.
Después de miles de años de perdernos; después de
miles de años de no conseguir el mensaje de Dios;
después de miles de años de nuestro deambular por el
desierto tratando de hacer las cosas por nosotros
mismos, Dios decidió que la mejor manera de
demostrar el amor que Dios tiene por nosotros, era
enviar a su Hijo, Jesús. Un Dios que se envolvió en
carne y hueso; salió del cielo y en el tiempo se
convirtió en uno de nosotros para caminar por donde
caminamos, y vivir como vivimos. Un Dios que en la
cruz, lo envolvió en nuestro dolor y sufrimiento,
voluntariamente, y cargó con el peso de nuestro
pecado. Y bajo ese peso, Jesús murió para que
pudiéramos ver no sólo que Dios está enamorado de
nosotros, sino hasta qué punto está dispuesto a ir
Dios por nosotros. Es todo lo que necesito saber y
creer. El pasado lunes a las 6:34 de la tarde le dimos
con satisfacción la bienvenida al verano, que estos
días cálidos permitan el rejuvenecimiento y la bondad
a todos!

The Holy Cross Bereavement Support
Group meets the first Tuesday of the month
at 1:30pm in the Assembly Room. Holy
Cross hosts this support group for the
recently bereaved or anyone havin g
difficulty with the loss of a loved one. Being
with others who are walking the same path
of loss is a help to many. If you are
interested in being part of this new group,

Sacramentos
Bautismos para niños menores de 6 años: Las charlas o pláticas Bautismales
son el primero y segundo miércoles del mes (puede variar según calendario
parroquial). Los bautismos se celebran en grupo el tercer sábado de cada mes a
las 12pm. Requisitos: Los padres deben estar registrados en la Parroquia 3 meses
mínimo antes de la celebración del Bautismo, asistir a 2 pláticas y entregar acta de
nacimiento del niño/a. Los Padrinos deben asistir a 2 pláticas bautismales y
presentar constancia de elegibilidad como padrino “Sponsor Letter” firmada por el
párroco de su parroquia. Todos los documentos, junto con el formulario “Registro
Bautismal” deben ser presentados en la primera plática. Para más información, en
la mesa de bienvenida puede encontrar el formulario y fechas de las celebraciones.
(No hay clases bautismales durante Cuaresma Febrero 10 a Marzo 20)
Presentaciones (No es un Sacramento): Para niños y niñas de 40 días o de 3
años de edad. Completar el formulario “Solicitud de Presentación” para el jueves
anterior a la Presentación. Los niños de 3 años deben estar bautizados.
Matrimonios: Como requisito deben completar una preparación matrimonial y ser

children, but it is a poor way to model discipleship. Sadly, the Hokey-Pokey is an all too accurate way of describing
how too many of us live our commitment to Jesus. We give a part of ourselves to the gospel, only to withdraw it
when times grow troubling. We make a great show of professing what we will do for Jesus and in his name, but are
less present (or altogether absent!) when the realities of a life of service knock at our door.
This week's Gospel makes clear the demands of Christian discipleship. Jesus' call to come-and-follow requires
immediate, uncompromising assent. A halfhearted embrace is seen as no embrace at all, and excuses for delay to
put family or business affairs in order are understood as rejection. Agreeing to be a disciple of Jesus makes claims
that upend traditional ways of expressing loyalty and allegiance. Kin, clan, and country serve as the constellation of
regard and concern for most communities, and these three so often demand and receive our attention, care, and
loyalty. Over and over Jesus rejects this value system. For Jesus, our kin, clan, and country are overshadowed by
God, Gospel, and grace. These three now form the constellation by which our life is ordered and directed. We are
asked to guide our lives and make our decisions in light of these first and any others second.
Christian discipleship has never been easy. It has upset family relations, business partnerships, and even national
identity. It cannot be something we put on for Sunday and take off for the rest of the week. We may not designate
some parts of our lives for the Gospel and other parts for work and play. Jesus' call is absolute and immediate. He
asks for this moment of our lives--not a promissory note for a future date. He demands every fiber of our being not
just those we believe we can do without.
From now until the end of time, Jesus calls to us to join him on the journey to Jerusalem. He does not ask us to
meet him there, or to make other accommodations. He asks
us
to journey with him every step of the way with every fiber of
our
beings. The summons is given; the choice is ours.

The Office of Faith Formation needs your help.
Bein g a Cate chist is the gift God gives us to share our Catholic faith with others and to help mold our young
Catholics in to people of faith. As we begin planning for next year we have several Catechist openings.
Catechist positio ns are open to senio rs in hig h school through adulth ood.
