Phoenix Coyotes Notes
The Phoenix Coyotes travel to Dallas tonight to take on the Stars in the second of eight meetings
between the Pacific Division rivals this season. The Coyotes dropped a 5-3 decision to the Stars on
Oct. 27 in a game that saw captain Shane Doan collect three points (1 goal, 2 assists), including the
200th goal of his NHL career. Radim Vrbata and Daniel Carcillo also scored in the game while Ed
Jovanovski recorded two assists. Doan leads all current Coyotes in career scoring against Dallas with
21-20-41 in 63 games. The Coyotes' lone victory against the Stars last season came in Dallas on Jan.
9.
ROAD WARRIORS: The Coyotes are 3-1-0 through their first four road games, matching the best road
start in franchise history. The 1982-83 Winnipeg Jets were also 3-1-0 after their first four road contests.
No Coyotes/Jets team has began a season by winning four its first five road games.
3rd PERIOD SHOTS: Through the first 10 games of the season, the Coyotes have outshot their
opponents 111-80 in the third period, a +31 shot differential. The Coyotes are averaging 3.1 more third
period shots per game than their opponents, which ranks third in the NHL behind the NY Rangers (5.1
more third period shots per game than opponents) and Detroit (3.6 more third period shots per game
than opponents). The Coyotes have only been outshot in the third period three times in 10 games. On
three occasions, they have outshot their opponents by 10 or more shots in the final period. Overall, the
Coyotes rank 2nd in the Western Conference and 11th in the NHL in shots per game at 29.7.

Dallas on Oct. 27. Doan, who also added two assists and led the Coyotes with 20:53 TOI in the game,

franchise with the seventh overall selection in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft and has spent his entire career
with the Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets organization. Doan has played the third most games in team history
(813). The native of Halkirk, Alberta also ranks fifth in franchise history in goals (200) and assists (279)

Anaheim on Oct. 25 by posting his third career shutout and first as a Coyote. Auld stopped 31 shots as
the Coytoes captured a 1-0 win over the Ducks at the Honda Center. The 26-year-old Auld, who signed
with the Coyotes as a free agent on Aug. 13, 2007, recorded his first shutout on Mar. 23, 2003 as a
member of the Vancouver Canucks. Last season, with the Florida Panthers, he stopped all 39 shots he
faced in regulation and overtime before losing in a shootout to Montreal on Nov. 28, 2006. Despite the
loss, he was credited with his second career shutout.
WELLER SCORES FIRST NHL GOAL: Forward Craig Weller scored his first NHL goal in a 1-0 win at
Anaheim on Oct. 25. He joins Martin Hanzal, Peter Muller and Daniel Winnik as the four Coyotes
players who have scored their first career goals this season. The goals by Hanzal, Weller and Winnik
were each game-winning goals, meaning that all three of the Coyotes' wins this season came on a
GWG by a player scoring his first NHL goal.
1-0 WINS: With a 1-0 win at Anaheim on Oct. 25, the Coyotes/Jets organization moved to 17-13
all-time in 1-0 games. It was the team's first 1-0 win since Apr. 4, 2003, when the Coyotes defeated the
Nashville Predators behind a goal from Branko Radivojevic and a shutout by Sean Burke. Prior to
Thursday's win, the Coyotes had lost the last four 1-0 games they had been involved in.
TURRIS WINS WEEKLY AWARD AT WISCONSIN: Kyle Turris, who was selected by the Coyotes with
the third overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, has recorded 5-7-12 in his first four games as a
freshman at the University of Wisconsin. Turris was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for the
week of Oct. 23-29. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Turris was rated by Central Scouting as the No. 1 North
American skater in this year's draft after scoring 66-55-121 for Burnaby of the British Columbia Hockey
League (BCHL) to earn league MVP honors. Along with representing Canada at the 2007 Under-18
World Championships in Finland, the New Westminster, British Columbia native played for Team
Canada in the 2007 Super Series, which featured the best junior players from Canada taking on
Russia's top juniors in an eight-game event. Turris led all players with seven Super Series goals.
MUELLER SCORES FIRST NHL GOAL: Coyotes center Peter Mueller scored his first career NHL goal
on Oct. 18 against Edmonton. With Phoenix trailing 1-0 in the second period, the 19-year-old rookie
knocked in a rebound on the power play to tie the game at one. Niko Kapanen and Daniel Carcillo
assisted on the goal. Mueller, a native of Bloomington, Minnesota, became the third Coyotes player to
score his first NHL goal this season, joining fellow rookies Martin Hanzal and Daniel Winnik. Mueller,
who made his NHL debut against St. Louis on Opening Night, spent the last two seasons with Everett
of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and registered 47-89-136 in 103 games.
TJARNQVIST REACHES CENTURY MARK: Forward Mathias Tjarnqvist played in his 100th career NHL
game on Oct. 18 against Edmonton and collected his first point of the season with an assist on Mike
Zigomanis' goal. Tjarnqvist, who was acquired in a trade with Dallas last season, has appeared in 32
games for the Coyotes and recorded 10 points on five goals and five assists.
CARCILLO SCORES A PAIR: Daniel Carcillo scored two first period goals against Minnesota on Oct. 13
to notch his first goals of the season as well as the first multi-goal game of his NHL career. Entering
play on Wednesday, Carcillo was tied for seventh in rookie scoring with 2-2-4. Carcillo, who leads the
Coyotes with 24 PIM, has 6-5-11 in 25 career NHL games.
SJOSTROM NETS FIRST CAREER HAT-TRICK: Coyotes forward Fredrik Sjostrom scored three goals
to record his first career hat trick in the team's 6-3 win over Nashville on Oct. 11. Sjostrom, who was a
healthy scratch in Phoenix's first three games of the season, scored his first goal on the power play, his
second at even strength, and his third while shorthanded. His second goal of the game, which came at
18:12 of the second period, was originally credited to Steven Reinprecht. However, after further review,
Sjostrom was awarded the goal. The Fargelanda, Sweden native was Phoenix's first choice (1st round,
11th overall) in the 2001 Entry Draft. He has recorded 25-32-57 in 212 career games with the Coyotes.
ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DEBUT: Alex Auld got the start in goal for Phoenix on Oct. 11, becoming
the 10th player to make his Coyotes debut in the team's first four games. Auld, who signed as a free
agent with the club on Aug. 13 after spending last season with Florida, made 36 saves to help lead the
Coyotes to a 6-3 win over Nashville. Auld dressed during the team's first two games of the season but
did not see action. He joins Freddy Meyer, David Aebischer, Ryan Caldwell, Martin Hanzal, Peter
Mueller, Radim Vrbata, Craig Weller, Daniel Winnik and Mike York as the players who have made thier
Coyotes debut this season.

MILESTONE GOAL: When Martin Hanzal and Craig Weller assisted on Daniel Winnik's third period goal
in the season opener vs. St. Louis on Oct. 4, it marked the first time since Mar. 30, 2002 that three
players each picked up their first career NHL point on the same goal. Radim Bicanek, Matt Davidson
and Andrej Nedorost were the last to accomplish this feat as each player recorded his first career point
on Bicanek's goal while playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Winnik's goal also marked the second
time in franchise history that three players notched their first NHL point on the same goal. It last
happened on Oct. 10, 1979 when the Winnipeg Jets played their first game in the National Hockey
League after leaving the World Hockey Association. Morris Lukowich scored his first NHL goal for the
Jets and Peter Marsh and Barry Melrose recorded assists for their first NHL points.
SUDDEN IMPACT: Five of the seven players who made their Coyotes debut in the team's Oct. 4 win
over St. Louis recorded a point in the game. Mike York and Daniel Winnik each scored a goal while
Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata and Craig Weller each had an assist. York and Weller both signed with
Phoenix as free agents in the offseason while Vrbata was acquired in a trade with Chicago on Aug. 11.
Hanzal (1st round, 17th overall in 2005 Entry Draft) and Winnik (9th round, 265th overall, 2004 Entry
Draft) were both drafted by the Coyotes. Ryan Caldwell and Peter Mueller also made their Coyotes
debut on Thursday.
STRIKING QUICKLY: Mike York and Daniel Winnik scored the Coyotes' second and third goals,
respectively, just 12 seconds apart in the third period on Oct. 4 vs. St. Louis. The franchise and NHL
record for the fastest two goals in a game is four seconds, set by Deron Quint on Dec. 15, 1995 as a
member of the Jets.
GAME NO. 400: Coyotes center Steven Reinprecht played in his 400th career NHL game on Oct. 6
against Boston. The Edmonton, Alberta native has recorded 90-158-248 in 400 career games with Los
Angeles, Colorado, Calgary and Phoenix. Reinprecht has collected 21-36-57 in 79 games with the
Coyotes since joining the team on Feb. 1, 2006.
OPENING NIGHT: The Coyotes defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Oct. 4 in the franchise's 28th
season opener and 11th in Phoenix. The Coyotes improved to 13-11-4 all-time in season openers and
11-5-2 in openers played at home. Since moving to the desert in 1996, the Coyotes are 9-2-0 in home
openers, outscoring opponents 39-22. Last season, Phoenix defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 on
opening night. The game was highlighted by Steven Reinprecht's career night as the center notched a
goal and four assists, tying him for the second most points ever scored by a player in a season opener.
Kevin Stevens holds the record with six points (2-4-6), which he accomplished on Oct. 5, 1990 while
playing for Pittsburgh. The Coyotes are now 4-0 all-time in season openers vs. St. Louis.
Listed below are the results of Coyotes home openers since moving to Phoenix in 1996:
