Introduction
This guide describes the Prentice Hall Magruder’s American Government essential print and
digital components.
Program Organization
Prentice Hall Magruder’s American Government is organized around Understanding by
Design Essential Questions. Essential Questions help students of all abilities gain an
understanding of key American government principles to help them effectively problem
solve in this global economy. The content is relevant and accessible so students of all levels
understand the key concepts. Each resource in the program helps students acquire the
knowledge and skills they need to answer the Essential Question and move toward truly
understanding the content.
The Foundations Series
The Foundations Series is an accessible curriculum that covers the same core content as the
on-level version. Features include a lower reading level at a Lexile range between 800 and
900 and explicit skills instruction. The Foundations Series also provides embedded reading
support, explicit reading strategies, and integrated vocabulary support with key words that
highlight and define terms. The more open and readable single-column text design also
helps students reading at a lower level.
