IGDS will take place on November 9-‐10, 2012 in Milan as a parallel event of Games Week, the Italian video game industry’s consumer show. Last year Games Week attracted more than 30.000 visitors and 500 journalists. IGDS is meant to be a platform for the Italian video game developers’ community -‐ companies, professionals and students -‐ to exchange experiences and to build competencies. Day 1 will be dedicated to game development. Day 2, to workshops and tutorials for game developers who want to improve their professional activity. Being one of the most creative and innovative countries for video game development in Europe, Holland will be officially hosted at a special session of IGDS, called “Holland4Italy”. Four outstanding Dutch developers will share their experiences with the audience. In particular: • Michaël Bas, Board Member Dutch Games Association (DGA) and CEO Ranj • Jasper Koning, Co-‐Founder and Game Designer Ronimo Games • Remco de Rooij, CEO Triangle Studios • Martijn Reuvers, Co-‐Founder and Managing Director Two Tribes Holland is currently a main player in the global gaming industry. During the past five years the number of people employed in the Dutch gaming industry has more than doubled. Dutch educational institutes have responded to these trends by developing courses and curricula to support the development of the gaming sector. While the market for entertainment games is dominated by foreign companies, Dutch firms are performing well in specific markets such as serious and casual gaming. Spil Games is the largest online game platform with about 130 million unique visitors per month. Moreover Zylom, which was acquired by RealNetworks in 2006, is one of the European market leaders in casual games and won two European Innovative Games awards. In the field of serious games Ranj is one of the leading games companies in Europe. In the area of entertainment games Dutch companies have also produced some huge successes such as Overlord (Triumph) and Killzone (Guerilla). Thalita Malagò, Secretary General of AESVI: "We are pleased to have Holland as a partner in the first edition of the Italian Game Developers Summit. Choosing Holland means comparing ourselves with a country that plays an important role worldwide in the competitive scenario of video games. We are sure that the participation of Holland at IGDS will offer added value to our audience. That’s why I would like to thank both DGA and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Milan for their support. Michaël Bas, Board Member of the DGA: “We were delighted when AESVI invited us to be a part of the first edition of the IGDS. By sharing our broad experiences during this exciting event we hopefully can inspire Italian developers for their future work. The IGDS also give us a chance to get a closer look at what is happening in the Italian games industry. Therefore, I do expect this partnership to be creatively benificial for both the Italian and the Dutch companies”. Games Week, 9-10-11 Novembre 2012, MiCo Milano Congressi, www.gamesweek.it
