...marcia autonoma
Historically, some italian trolleybuses were equipped
with petrol motors (1930) or diesel motors (1986) to
allow them to run for short distances in case they
cannot follow the standard route
Nowadays, all-electric vehicles with battery packs
are running in Ancona (rebuilt, with lead batteries)
and Roma (totally new, with NiMH batteries)
22nd SWISS TROLLEYBUS CONVENTION - 31 August 2006, Palexpo, Geneva
Evolution in rules
An important milestone is represented by the updating
of the italian circulation law (Codice della Strada)
Today, it is possible to project and to run a line
without to build overhead electric wires on part of
the route, as done in Roma
22nd SWISS TROLLEYBUS CONVENTION - 31 August 2006, Palexpo, Geneva
The “innovation” concept
“Innovation” in Italy is a keyword
There is strong interest in:
• Guided system
• “Alternative” supply systems
• Reduction on energy consumption
• Batteries and ultracaps
