SPECIAL ADVERTISING 2
The National Commercial Bank
Jamaica Limited (NCB) is committed to
helping our customers Put Their Best
Life Forward and a partnership with the
Jamaica Observer as they Take Style
Out is one of our ways of doing this.
We are delighted to offer our customers a fabulous night of
shopping, aided by our suite of prepaid and credit cards.
Slated for October 2, 2014, the event will see NCB KeyCard
customers getting amazing rewards, atop the great Style Out
deals available from our merchants. From double travel
points on the Lovebird KeyCard to up to 5% cash back on
our Classic KeyCard, all our KeyCard holders can Style
Out cashless and enjoy exclusive benefits and bonuses
from the card that gives you more – more savings,
more security and the ultimate convenience.
Style Out presents a multiplicity of benefits to our
merchants and customers as well as the stimulation
of the broader Jamaican economy. Businesses will
benefit from increased sales during what may be
considered a traditionally sluggish period.

Put Your Best Life

SPECIAL ADVERTISING 4
I understand the frustration expressed by many persons
when they see their light bill. Until our country can access
sustainable fuel sources that are reliable and cheaper
than the imported oil we use millions of US dollars to buy
every month, 70% of the bill will be difficult to reduce. It is
for this reason that JPS intensified its focus on energy
education and efficiency with the launch of its e-Store
last year. While we work on bringing cheaper fuel to
generate electricity, using energy wisely is the customer’s
best bet for savings.
The JPS eStore is a part of our effort to partner with our
customers in a more tangible way. We are committed to
helping you understand and manage your energy
usage, by offering guidance on better consumption
habits and providing products to help measure, monitor
and improve your energy efficiency.
By partnering with The Jamaica Observer for TSO and
offering discounts in the JPS e-Store, we are putting the
power in your hands. We are helping you to acquire
energy efficiency devices that will allow you to enjoy the
comforts you deserve, while managing the impact on
your wallet. As your energy partner, we are thrilled to
participate in this novel day of discounts.
Sheree Martin
SVP Customer and Corporate Services
Your TSO 2014 Must Stop!
TSO 2014 is a calendar shopping event
in Jamaica. Merchants offer discounts to
customers for one (1) day of shopping
bliss, islandwide.
This year, the JPS eStore will participate
through two (2) locations and their
Mandeville kiosk. Customers are invited as
they avail one-day-only discounts on select
items while promoting the value of energy
efficiency.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Many persons may have heard of it, any may have not.
Whatever the case, from here on out, it is absolutely
necessary that you utilize this wonderful tool for your
TSO plans. Pinterest is another online social platform that
allows persons from all around the world to share their
ideas within a matter of seconds. Once you have an
account, you are able to create specifically themed
‘boards’ on which you can ‘pin’ your favourite items.
Persons will then have the option to ‘re-pin’ your items
and vice versa.
25% off ALL eStore bulbs
25% off on Corn Light 9w bulb
25% off on aircosaver
25% off eStore timers (DET)
25% off on eSTORE branded powerbanks
CRU After Party will begin at 9:00PM
until 11:00PM come Thursday, October
2nd. Sheree Martin will co-host JPS
eStore customers, JPS guests and other
invitees for the after party event. It is a
simple mingle to wrap up the evening’s
festivities.
How can this assist you with shopping you may ask…
well there goes. This is a great place to get inspiration for
stylish items that you not necessarily may have conceived
on your own. With the aid of key words such as fashion,
style, outfits etc. you will be able to access hundreds of
combinations that will simply blow your mind. You will
be able to see on screen what works best for your
complexion, body type, sense of style and even in some
cases, your budget.
eSquad sales team will be at partnering
with retail stores in Kingston such as;
. Angela’s
. SOHO
. Kerry manwomanhome
. Significant Details (NYX)
Your search can get even more specific with key words
pertaining to your particular sense of style such as African
print, corporate chic, vintage or classic. The possibilities
are endless when it comes to Pinterest and fashion
inspiration. So feel free to head on over, get with the
program and get up to speed. Feel free to print your
favourite combinations and take along with you on your
shopping trip.
On sale will be powerbanks, eStore Timers.
They will be issuing limited invitations to
the after party to lucky shoppers at these
locations so, make sure you look out for
them.
Discounts/Specials at participating
store locations (Kingston, Mobay &
Mandeville kiosk) will be offered on the
following items:

Tall and thin
Choosing
the Right
Handbag
For You!
Choose handbags with a short, slouchy
shape like the hobo. Avoid shoulder
bags with a short strap, as they will
make you look even taller. Select
handbags that are wider than they are
tall. A clutch is a good choice.
Petite
Despite what you see in on TV,
oversized bags aren’t for small women.
Large bags tend to overwhelm your
frame. Avoid shoulder bags with a long
strap as they will weigh you down,
making you look even shorter.
Plus-size
Pick a large structured or boxy bag to
balance out your curves. Don’t carry a
bag that is too small as it will make you
look larger. If you love prints, steer
clear of tiny patterns.
Everyone
Generally speaking when it
comes to handbags, the
opposite shape of your body
type is the most flattering.When
shopping, head to the dressing
room, carry the bag as you
normally would and check it out
from all angles in the mirror.
If you are splurging on an expensive
bag, choose one that you will be able to
wear often. There’s no need to spend
USD $500 or more on a bag that will
rarely make it out of your closet. If you
are buying several inexpensive bags
instead, pick one classic everyday bag
in black or brown. Then, experiment
with fun, funky styles and metallics for
your other bags.

The word Style may be referred to the following:
Style (fiction), an aspect of literary composition
Style (visual arts), style in art and painting
Architectural style, Automotive styling, commonly known as styling
(vehicle design) Design, the process of creating something
Fashion, a prevailing mode of expression, e.g., clothing
Format, various terms that refer to the style of different things
Human physical appearance, Hairstyle.
But this time around, let’s focus more on fashion, a prevailing
mode of expression e.g. clothing, designs, shoes, accessories,
and to a lesser extent, hairstyles.
.
.
One can never be wrong in choosing his or her own style,
trend; whatever you want to call it…it basically boils down
to the same thing.
Personally, I’m more of a comfortable-style look; I do not
follow trends, neither do I stick to what’s in fashion or the
latest craze in fashion. For me, it’s all about feeling down
right good in your own skin! Yea, sure, I’d love to wear the
shortest of shorts, the microscopic mini-skirts and those oh,
so snug fitting jeans, not to mention those 6 inch heels but
who am I kidding? I knew from a very long time that that’s
not me…I’m not into flashy, over-the-top, must-have in my
closet…no sah! I dress to feel comfortable.
’
1
V \
1
I’m a tall person (as some men would say, “Strong body”
woman), nicely shaped, long legged and so on and so forth. Besides I don’t
need to wear no darn high heels to look taller! I already am! And proud of my height
too! So there! But I do not expose myself to anyone! What do I mean by that? It’s
simple, really. I do not like clothes that expose me too much…no tight jeans, no tight
blouse, that type of thing. I love my skin to breathe without being constricted! Sure I
like wearing anything sleeveless and it’s not because I’m showing off my muscular
arms…please, no way! Wearing sleeveless clothes allows your skin to breathe. As for
shorts, maybe when I was smaller but not now! Do you ever notice the types of
women who wear shorts nowadays? Wow! Let’s not go there! If these women are
proud of flaunting what they have, let them! If they want to be the laughing stock,
who am I to say: “ Don’t go out of the house dressed like that?” No sir, not me, uh
uh…nooooo!!!! To each his or her own, is my motto.
L!

Speed Shopping
By Rochane Anderson
Time is precious! For busy professionals, parents, students and
even just the everyday individual, life is all about ensuring that
every minute counts and is utilized in the most productive manner.
It therefore comes as no surprise that individuals may only
allocate a few minutes for shopping excursions. Understandably so,
one can appreciate the rationale behind this concept, after all, saving
time is almost as exciting as saving money.
A surplus in this luxury can do wonders for your relationship, more time
to spend with your children and best of all, time to catch up on some
sleep. But is this possible in the world of fashion? Or is it just a fallacious
and wishful thought. Think about it, we are talking about shopping in
minutes! Well, this is one of those paradoxes that we do not understand;
rather, it is best to develop an inclination in the discipline. Especially
during a one day sale event, not to mention, for example, a Black Friday
or a Jamaica Observer Takes Style Out extravaganza, even shopping
downtown, where it is absolutely exhausting, you just want to grab as
much as possible from your list, and head home.
The secret to speed shopping is quite simple, your list. It is very
important that you have an understanding of what it is that you need,
versus what you want, and then exercise discipline while you shop.
The internet has made it quite convenient, facilitating this ideal.
Therefore, online shopping is one possible route to consider when you
are strapped for time. Now, not everyone may be privy to shopping
online or may have the necessary resources to do so, but that should not
avert the usefulness of this outlet. The internet can be used as a muse to
help inspire you on your next prospective shopping quest. For example,
your birthday is quickly approaching and you only have half an hour
within a day to get your outfit. To save time, you could peruse the
internet in advance, check fashion sites and other street wear blogs to
see what you could possibly engineer for yourself. That’s the beauty of
separatism in fashion; you could always grab a sleek top, cool jean,
shoes, and be able to pull off an inimitably chic look. In addition, it is
very useful to ask around and know all the trendy shops before you go
shopping. There’s a plethora of hidden gems downtown, in the arcades,
where even the most fashionable and fastidious could appreciate.
Lastly, when shopping utilize the aid of store attendants. Tell them
exactly what you need and I can guarantee that they will get it for you.
Immediately you just saved 10 minutes searching for that simple polo
shirt or a date night dress. This brings me to my next point, Know your
size! Fit is key in fashion, therefore, if you are hoping to save time
shopping, it makes no sense going to the store totally unaware of the
size shoe you wear! All in all, shopping can be therapeutic, fun and
exciting, but it can also be convenient and time efficient. This should
definitely be a sport, since it could easily help in your workout regimen
and still make it home to catch news at seven or better yet Scandal!

We asked, “Is there any other information you
wish to share or highlight?”
Usually the most stylish people don’t just magically come up with their
looks. Often times it’s a result of list-making, hunting and being inspired
by different things, colours and patterns. It’s okay to make fashion
mistakes so don’t be afraid to redefine your style concept to make it
more wearable for you.

So where was I before I got side tracked? Oh yes…my style of fashion,
clothing. I’m being modest when I say that I look good in jeans! Oh
yes! As to pants suits and skirt suits, again I dress modestly; skirt should
be right on my knees or just a teeny little bit further below the knees
but not too much! (Not like how these schoolgirls have to be wearing
their uniforms all the way down to the ground!!!!) Poor things! But I
digress. The only way you’ll be seeing me wearing any form of mini, is
in sleep mode!
My thighs will embarrass me should I ever venture out into a skirt that’s
riding up on my ample derriere and chunky thighs! But again, there
are a lot of women, worse off than me of course, who wouldn’t
hesitate to be “bare as you dare”! Why? They convince themselves
that they are…wait for it…yes, you got that right…sexy!!!!!
For fashionable n trendy
men n womeri gears
visit us today!!!
As to hairstyles, I would so love to give the crème of my hair a break
and wear braids or even try out a wig or two, but I’m yet to take the
plunge. Accessories? My ears are pierced so I like wearing the knob
earrings but nothing too large. Anything with silver jewellery I’ll wear.
Gold jewellery? I have a couple gold earrings; not gold-plated, mind
you, real gold. I have a weakness for watches and I’ve told myself
that the only time I won’t be wearing a wristwatch, will be on my
wedding day! The only accessories I’ll be wearing on that day will be
my gold wedding rings and my earrings; no chains, no wristwatches,
no school ring…nada, zilch, nothing.

Faux
pas…
The expression faux pas comes from French, where
it means “false step”, “misstep” (in a physical as well
as a figurative sense). It has been used in English for
over 300 years. So let’s address the most common
fashion faux pas and general fashion don’ts, as well
as ways to avoid them.
Too many colours
Too many colours draw attention - but not the kind of
attention that gets you dates. Limit each of your
outfits to just three colours or shades to keep things as
simple as possible. Also, find a colour wheel online or
in a book. Colours opposite each other on the wheel
are “complementary colours” (i.e. purple and yellow,
orange and blue). Colours adjacent to each other
are called “analogous colours” (i.e. orange, yelloworange and yellow). When putting together an outfit,
stick to complementary and analogous colours.
You can also avoid a lot of mistakes simply by
matching pale clothes with pale shoes, and dark
clothes with dark shoes.

Too many patterns
As you’ll see in on identifying and matching fabrics,
the key is to wear no more than three patterns, or to
match just one or two patterns with one or two solid
colours. Of course, the easiest thing you can do is find
one pattern you look good in (like chalk stripes or
herringbone) and stick to it.

Too many fabrics
In the minds of many, fabrics exist in a certain “class”.
Silk is generally considered more formal than denim,
while linen shirts don’t exactly scream “corduroy
pants!” Leather will always be more masculine than,
say, tweed. You can dance around many of these
fabric mismatches by simply keeping your clothes
separate. Winter fabrics tend to be heavier, denser
and rougher, while summer fabrics are mostly made
of natural fibres, single-layered and airy. Keep them
away from each other and you should be fine.

Sales are very tempting,
don’t you agree? Seeing all
the beautiful items in lower
prices makes us want them
all! Is there a way to resist all
our cravings?
Here are some of tips how to
shop wisely and buy items that
you will actually wear:
* Go through your wardrobe.
Think what is missing, what do
you need the most and what do
you wear most often,
* Make a list of what you
need, what is trending and
where you would like to invest
your money in,
* Save enough time for
shopping, you should avoid
shopping in a hurry.

Though the middle finger and
ring finger seem to be the most
popular, these little beauties can
be worn on any of your digits,
and the more rings you’re
wearing, the better things get.
Mid finger pieces mixed in with
both simple and ornate
traditional rings, multi-finger
rings, and even interesting
thumb rings, are definitely the
alternative fashion of the here
and now.

What’s the new thing of the
moment? Well the answer is
definitely be mid finger rings.
These are the cute little rings,
most often just bands or simple
embellishments, that sit between
the middle knuckle and the tip
of the finger.

Finding such a property may be difficult but with
the right expertise can pay great dividends. There
are several things to be weary of when considering
the purchase of an existing property, even if the
plan is to demolish and replace.

TSO is right around the corner and as usual it
promises to be a scorcher. Grab your
purses/wallets and take this opportunity to
convert your outdoor space into your new living
room! If you have a patio, verandah or back yard
you can use it to create your own cool sanctuary.

Lastly, if you are going to be out at night you will
need lighting. Here are a few options:
1.Tiki lamps that also can double as mosquito
repellant
2.Kerosene lamps are mostly used during or after a
storm but we can make an exception
3.Chinese lantern is a beautiful outdoors feature and
it creates a picturesque setting.
There are many ways to redesign your outdoor
space and these are just a few. It is a great way to
relax, enjoy nature and save a little energy in the
process. Creating an outdoor space is only half the
fun, how you use it is where the real fun begins.

It is a well-known fact that colours
stimulate and even excite our senses,
for rooms that you would like to keep
neutral subtle shades and colours are
best whilst to invoke creativity
especially in children, multiple
colours including yellow and other
bright eye catching tones will keep
minds active and awake.
Sometimes the mood you need

you see on the walls around you and
similarly after a long day when you
reach it may be time to relax and wind
down.
Room colour ideas can come from
anywhere, if you love nature and want to
feel closer to the outdoors while inside,
try natural colours such as beige, green
and yellow to create a calming feeling.
