Dear Good News Family,
This week was one of the most interesting weeks so far. As always,
God seems to put the campers in my cabin that I need in order for God to
teach me something. This week I had a camper in my cabin that was a
tested my patience. Jonathan would skip some meals, crack up during
God and I time, and was always trying to wrestle me non-stop. One
evening we all came back to the cabin after the rain had canceled a game.
Jonathan then proceeded to jump in my bed and roll around underneath
the covers. It was hard to always have a smile on my face. However,
throughout the week my goal was just to always have a smile on my face,
and respond in a Christ-like way. By the end of the week, Jonathan got a
lot of things right with God, and told me I was an awesome counselor. It
was nothing I did that helped Jonathan get right with God, it was all God
working through me. I have realized that there is nothing I can do that
will change the lives of my campers. God works in the lives of the
campers through His word. So many of my campers this week made
decisions for Christ, and it was amazing to see them open their hearts to
God. On the last two services, almost all of my campers came out during
the invitation to get things right with God. God really worked this week,
and I cannot wait to see Him do it again! Thank you for your prayers.
Sincerely,
Addison Hagberg

Dear Good News Baptist Church,
God blessed with another great week of camp! He continues to work in
the heart of my campers and in my own heart each week.
Many of my campers made great decisions this week. Two of them
were in my cabin last week from CIT, and they both were huge
encouragements. One told me that God revealed to him that he needs to
have a battle plan with God’s Word when it comes to getting victory over
sin. It’s not enough to just “do your devotions.” That is one of the things I
try to get across to each of my campers, and as he was explaining this to
me. I was convicted as I realized that I haven’t been putting that to practice
like I ought. Everyone in my cabin this week made commitments to be bold
for Christ in proclaiming the gospel. Again God showed me that I needed to
make the same decision my campers were making.
God also showed me that I sometimes find my satisfaction in something
other than Him. I often tell my campers that only God satisfies, but I
realized this week that I haven’t been practicing what I’ve been preaching.
I’m thankful that God taught me these things, even though it was humbling
when I finally learned the lesson.
Thank you again for your prayers!
In Christ,
Andrew Taylor

Dear Good News Family,
It would be an understatement to say that the end of this week was a little
discouraging. I spent all week with this one girl in my prayer partner cabin
who was struggling with breaking up with her girlfriend. Half way through
the week she opened up on the hike and told me she didn't believe in
hell. She also said she wasn't saved and thought she could do anything in her
own strength. She loved basketball so we played a lot, and I gave her the
Gospel many times. Yet, at the end of the week she still went home without
accepting Christ.
The encouraging thing came that afternoon when we were giving
testimonies in staff meeting and basically everyone had the same
testimony; someone they had been talking to went home and gave their life
to Christ. This encouraged me that there is hope for Destiny (the girl I had
been working with)!! Please pray for her salvation. The same God at the
WILDS still works when kids get off this mountain.
Besides that, I am so ready for week 5! Last night I got some things
right with God that I have been holding back for years. I'm a little nervous to
start this week totally dependent on Him, but I am realizing every day that I
can't do it on my own, and I need him. Please pray that I don't get in the way
of what God wants to accomplish this week. As for my health, I still have a
little bit of coughing, but am feeling much better (probably because of all the
freezy pops I've been eating). I hope y'all have a great week.

July 4
Dear GNBC family,
Half of the summer is already gone! Week 5 is upon us, and I can hardly wait
for it to start! This past week I was paired with a junior camp counselor as a
prayer partner. It was definitely a big difference going from teen camp to junior
camp, but my prayer partner Sarah was a huge blessing! Unfortunately her
campers were not very responsive to messages or one-on-one time. But God is
not limited to working at camp, as I was reminded of in staff meeting testimony
time. He sometimes chooses to move at camp, and sometimes He chooses to work
at home. This week as staff we had evaluations with our crew chiefs. It was a
rebuke and somewhat of a blessing to have to write down areas where I’m selfish,
or areas that need specific improvement. It was a huge encouragement and
blessing to talk to my crew chief and to talk through some weaknesses and ways
to improve. The biggest blessing though was the fact that she was willing to be
open about areas where she needs improvement and growth. It was awesome to
share that time of fellowship, encouragement, and challenge with her. God has
definitely blessed me with amazing crew chiefs who take the time to help me see
areas where I need improvement, and who are also so encouraging to work with!
Pray for this next week, we will be having both campers and CITers so it is going
to be a busy two weeks. Pray for Steve Pettit as he preaches this nest week. Pray
for the counselors that they would have wisdom and strength for the upcoming
week. Thank you for your continued prayers!
In Christ,
Abby Brown
