Welcome
Welcome to the world of All-Star Cheerleading with the Cheer Sport Sharks. If you’re not a Shark yet,
you are about to discover what it means to be a part of our family. If you are a Shark, we can’t wait to
welcome you back to another season of unforgettable memories.
Cheer Sport Sharks serves the top athletes in Ontario with 3 locations. With over 850 cheerleaders, we
are the largest program in Canada with an international reputation as the premier gym of its kind in the
country.
With Cheer Sport, you’ll gain life lessons that you’ll take with you far beyond your years of cheerleading.
Cheering with the Sharks goes above and beyond what you would typically expect from a sport. We
believe that Cheer Sport serves a higher purpose. It’s more than a new skill or a trophy. It’s a feeling that
comes with building friendships that will last a lifetime, learning from coaches that give you everything
they have, and understanding that a team is only successful when hard work towards a common goal is
achieved. Being a Shark means being a part of a supportive and inclusive family that truly lifts you higher.
We can’t wait to welcome you!

In the world of all-star cheerleading, people have learned the Sharks are at the top of the food chain. You may
wonder why? We know it’s because we’ve found the perfect balance between success in a competitive sport and the
fun that comes from being a part of our teal family.
The Cheer Sport experience is second to none. In fact, the second you walk into the Tank, you’ll notice something
special. It’s the shared passion for the sport of cheerleading and the pride that comes with being a part of the best
gym in Canada.
Read on to learn more about our sport and why you should join our sisterhood of fins as a Cheer Sport Shark.
•
Cheer is a perfect combination of dance and gymnastics but with a unique team environment like soccer or
volleyball. If you or your daughter have tried all of these sports and more, give cheerleading a chance, we know
it will be just what you’re looking for!
•
Our athletes love being a valuable member of our teams and they build self-confidence as they accomplish
group and individual goals. Our teams at the Sharks become more of a sisterhood in which athletes develop
friendships that last a lifetime.
•
Train with world-class coaches who love and care about each individual athlete and produce the most
successful teams in all of Canada. If you have done cheer before but are looking to take it to the next level,
you won’t be disappointed with our high caliber coaches that get results.
•
Being a part of a large and successful gym gives our athletes unique opportunities that they won’t get else
where. Some highlights include traveling to some of the best US competitions and fun destinations, including
sunny beaches, the most prestigious US National competition, invite-only competitions for only the best of the
best, International travel opportunities, access to the top US instructors,
coach-in-training programs, scholarships and a higher likelihood of
competing on the worlds stage. We are also proud to have a number of
athletes who have competed with Team Canada.
•
With 24 teams at our Cambridge location, we have a team for athletes of all
ages and skill levels. This ensures athletes feel challenged, safe and
successful on the team that’s right for them. We are proud that our teams
experience success at all levels from 1-6.
•
You will love the professionalism of our entire program. From the supportive
administrative staff to the trained coaches and friendly on-site desk diva
team. We pride ourselves in truly valuing the families that are a part of
our gym.
•
Come and train at Canada’s largest custom designed, state of the art
cheerleading facility. Our 18,000 sq. ft. gym is a cheerleaders dream!
We hope you join us in continuing our legacy of
showing the cheerleading world why the Sharks
are at the top of the food chain!

Cheer Sport Sharks has a team for everyone from the brand new
beginning athlete to the elite veteran. We will be offering 24 teams in
Cambridge this season. All of our teams are named after real sharks
and designed to be successful at every level. Competitive levels are
posted tentatively and are based on the majority of the skills demonstrated by the athletes on the team. Athletes will be placed on teams
with other athletes of similar skill sets. We offer small and large sized
teams in levels 1-6.
Athletes get stronger, advance their skills and begin choreography
during the summer. Practices are important, but we do want families to enjoy their summer vacation time, camps, and other summer
activities. Summer practices policy is; if you are in town, we need
you at practice. We have created a very “weekend friendly” summer
schedule so that families can still enjoy all weekends together. As of
September 8th, practices become mandatory during our competitive
season.

Tumbling Schedule
Tumbling is an important part of competitive cheerleading. The term tumbling is used to describe gymnastic elements
such as cartwheels and backhand springs. Our tumbling packages are designed for athletes who are serious about
advancing in the sport. If your daughter loves tumbling and cheerleading - she should be training her skills with our
coaches who know the sport of cheerleading inside and out. Local gymnastic clubs do not offer the same level of
expertise in cheerleading specific tumbling. Athletes training with a tumbling package at the tank advance their skills
much quicker. We offer the following types of lessons:
Semi-Private: $30 +HST, 45-minute tumbling lesson. $32 +HST for a restricted coach. A restricted coach
is able to spot level 5 tumbling. 2: 1 Athlete to instructor ratio. * A semi-private with 1 athlete
registered becomes a 30 minute private lesson.
US/Guest Instructors: Semi-private: $35-$40+HST, Group Class: $25+HST. We often have guest professionals
visit the gym to offer their expertise. They bring a variety of strengths and are an asset to
our athletes training.
Open Tumbling: These times are included in your monthly tuition fees. 1 hour, drop-in as scheduled. One
coach, similar to a lifeguard, supervises open tumbling. These times are designed for
athletes to work tumbling skills they are able to do confidently on their own while having
access to the gym and equipment. Open tumbling begins June 8th, 2015.
Tiny/Mini Only Mondays 6-7pm, Junior/Senior Only Monday 7-8pm, All Ages Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm, Sunday 2-3pm

Attendance & Gym Closures
Cheer Sport Sharks start our season off with a family friendly, weekend free schedule from
June 8 – September 8. During the competitive season (October-April) practice is essential to the success of the
teams. The Sharks are successful because of our attendance policy. We expect that all efforts are made to attend
team practices and that families take their commitment seriously. Cheer at the Sharks must be a priority for your
family. If your athlete is absent from practice, it negatively impacts her team, and could effect her role in the routine.
Competitions are also mandatory, athletes and their families are expected to make every effort to attend. Please
look carefully at the competition schedule, and take into consideration the travel and fees associated with each
team. Most of our teams will travel to the USA and need a passport.
Mandatory parent meetings will occur during the first month of practices to meet the team and review the gym policy
and important dates of the season.
The attendance policy will be similar to the 2015-2016 season and will be available at registration. It will include a
$50 deposit, which you will get back at the end of the season if your agreement is fulfilled.
Champ Camps:These are 2-day level camps designed to standardize and advance stunts, techniques and skills
within the team. This camp is included in your yearly investment and includes all Cheer Sport &
guest instructors, and a camp tank top! All athletes are expected to attend.
CHAMP CAMP DATES
Level 1 August 17 - 18
Level 2 August 19 & 20
Level 3 August 25 & 26
Level 4 July 17 & 18
Level 5 July 15 & 16
Uniforms
Included in your yearly investment is a practice uniform consisting of a program
t-shirt and a custom team training set as well as a competition hair bow.
All uniforms are property of Cheer Sport. We own these competition uniforms
and rent them to each athlete. The rental fee is included in your yearly investment. We do this to keep our cost
for you as low as possible- the average uniform costs $300. The rental fee will allow us to purchase new team
uniforms, additional uniforms and uniform maintenance. Please be reminded that these are rented uniforms and
will not be custom fit to your athletes and cannot be altered. Uniforms must be returned at the end of each season.
All athletes will need to purchase the appropriate personal uniform items for their team. These items include but are
not limited to cheer shoes, make-up, and travel wear. Teams traveling to two or more U.S. competitions will need to
purchase the mandatory warm-up suit ($125 for jacket and pants). These items are the property of the athlete, and
can be worn and re-worn every year. The cost of these items is determined on a team-by-team basis, and ranges
from $25-$200.

We value hard working, positive athletes who understand that the TEAM comes before the individual.
Coaches reserve the right to modify routines as needed, and athletes will be expected to support decisions that are deemed as
best for the team.
We will only allow skills that have been mastered with proper technique to be competed. This is at the coaches discretion.
Skills permitted in a routine may change from Day 1 to Day 2 at a competition based on deductions.
Absolutely no jewelry can be worn to practice or competitions.
All athletes are expected to be good teammates, and no gossip, pettiness, bullying or alienating will be tolerated. These
continued behaviors are grounds for dismissal from our program.
Athletes are expected to maintain at a minimum, the skills they had at the start of the season. We reserve the right to move
athletes if they are not holding true to this expectation.
Athletes must treat their coaches, CITs, guest instructors, volunteers and admin staff with the utmost respect. We promise to
do the same for our athletes.
Athletes must communicate with coaches. If you don’t tell us you’re injured, we may not know!

Our goal is to teach athletes the responsibility that comes from maintaining commitment to a competitive team. This means
that we rely on parents to help us enforce our attendance policy by ensuring that your athlete does not let her team down by
continued absences. Removing cheer is not an acceptable form of punishment as it impacts the entire team.
NO GOSSIP will be tolerated. Please refrain from talking about other athletes, families, coaches, etc.
We strive to keep Cheer Sport a positive environment and take this very seriously. We will always be happy to talk about concerns; however will not tolerate continued negativity. Persistent negativity from parents or athletes is grounds for dismissal
from our program. If you have a concern, please address it with the appropriate person so that we can solve it, or explain it.
Let’s all work to keep Cheer Sport a positive environment.
Please help to keep our gym as pretty as the day it opened! Tidy up after yourself and your children.
Parents are not permitted in the gym unless asked by a coach. We reserve the right to close practices should we feel it is in
the best interest of the athletes.
Our social media policy is as follows: Everyone affiliated with the Sharks must refrain from posting negative thoughts about the team, gym, coaches, athletes or other programs. It’s simple – we feel that addressing concerns directly, versus on social
media, is the only acceptable method.
Please leave all valuables at home. We are not responsible for lost or missing items.
Our brand is extremely important to us and has taken years to develop. Permission to use our logo, name, or shark-specific
words must be obtained from Ali & Alana in writing. No exceptions.

Cheer Sport Coaches
What an incredible journey the Cheer Sport Sharks has been for co-founders Ali Moffatt and Alana Potter.
It all started over 14 years ago with a dream, a vision and most importantly a passion for coaching the
sport of competitive cheerleading.
At Cheer Sport Sharks your daughter will train in a safe and fun environment with coaches who will help
each athlete set and reach goals and offer them the opportunity to grow as athletes and individuals.
All of our coaches are USASF certified in all areas of cheerleading. Our coaching staff will use industry
accepted coaching methods and standards to train our athletes as well as leading edge techniques that
set Cheer Sport above the rest.
We enjoy an extremely low staff turn over rate, with many of our coaches having been with us since the
very beginning which means they understand our philosophy and teaching practices. Our coaches will
teach skills that will last a lifetime and build pride in not only their own accomplishments but also those of
the entire Shark family. Cheer Sport Sharks is home to amazing, caring coaches who are truly invested
in each individual athlete. We pride ourselves on the difference they will make in your child’s life.

What else does Cheer Sport offer?
Besides tumbling lessons and group classes, we offer a number of recreational programs, and skill specific classes. PA Day Camp, March break and summer camps, birthday parties, flight school, Cheer 101 and ½ Year Teams
(January-May), Tryout Prep Courses, and fun skill nights every month! If you’re looking to get involved in our sport
with less commitment, please consider any of the above programs.
Can my daughter be on two teams?
Yes- if your athlete is looking for more, crossing over (being on 2 teams) may be a good option. Crossovers will
be based on what that athlete can contribute to the team and specific needs of a team. Only a limited amount of
athletes will be selected as crossovers.
What should I wear to competition?
Cheer Sport is known for its amazing fan section and supportive parents. We have uniforms for parents and Fans
too! Visit our pro shop Fins or www.finsproshop.com for a fabulous selection of teal, bling and more! Athletes are
expected to look professional as they represent Cheer Sport Sharks.
Is Cheerleading Fun?
Cheering with the Sharks is fun and exciting! From practice theme days to special team events like sleepovers at
the tank and ice cream parties our athletes are rewarded for their hard work and commitment. We host a number
of events for the entire family. We can’t wait to get to know you more this season!
My daughter is coming from a gymnastic or dance background. Is cheerleading something she will enjoy?
YES! The skills that your daughter has learned through dance or gymnastics are valuable in cheerleading. We have
found athletes from dance and gymnastics love the team atmosphere, the competitive nature and the fun that the
sport brings through new friendships and team travel.
