Moreton Bay club secure new home
Tristan Clow, Fiona Greaves, Peter Kuskie, Councillor Greg Chippendale, Jason Walsh & Dean Painter
The Moreton Bay Table Tennis
Association have secured a new
home at Centenary Lakes Sports
Complex, Caboolture.
Moreton Bay Councillor Greg
Chippendale, TTQ Executive
Officer Jason Walsh and many
Moreton Bay club members
were on hand at the official
club opening.
Previously the Moreton Bay club
were located at Shaftsbury Col-
lege at Burpengary. The clubs
dedicated volunteers had to set
up and pack away the tables
and equipment each night
of play. Now the club has full
access to the new venue apart
from one night.
Over the last couple of years the
Moreton Bay club has seen an
incredible rise in membership.
Getting to the point at their
previous venue they were nearly
at capacity. This new venue will
allow for further developments
at the Moreton Bay club.
Table Tennis Queensland would
like to Congratulate the Moreton Bay club committee and
members on securing their new
venue. The hard work and dedication from everyone involved
over the last couple of years
has truly paid off. We’re looking
forward to an exciting future in
the development of table tennis
in the Moreton Bay region.

National AWD Championships
Queensland AWD Team
A team of six players
represented Queensland at
the 2015 Australian Para Table
Tennis Championships which
were hosted by the Northern
Suburbs Table Tennis League in
Hobart from January 23 – 27.
Larissa Brown (nee Daveson)
made her debut at this
competition, being given a Class
10 classification, joining Andrea
McDonnell, Joel Coughlan,
Jackson Meyn, Kate Juillerat and
Ashley Parrott to form a small
but formidable team.
Joel was a standout performer,
winning three events and
being runner-up in another.
In the Mens Open Standing
(Class 6 – 10 & Deaf ) Singles,
he avenged his defeat from last
year by South Australia’s Sam
Von Einem, taking the title in a
nail-biting fifth game.
Joel also won the
Mens Class 9 &
10 Singles then
shared the Open
Standing Mixed
Doubles with
World #4 Melissa
Tapper (Victoria).
His silver
medal came
in the Mens
Open Standing
Doubles with
Jackson.
Standing Singles and came third
in the Womens Class 10 Singles.
World Class 10
#12, Andrea
won two gold
medals and three silvers. She
and Larissa were successful in
the Womens Standing Doubles
then she and Jackson claimed
the Class 8-10 Team event
in a dominant performance.
Andrea was runner-up to
Melissa in both the Womens
Open Standing Singles and the
Womens Class 9 & 10 Singles
in very competitive matches,
as well as sharing silver with
Jackson in the Open Standing
Mixed Doubles won by Joel and
Melissa.
Kate was named as the Womens
Class 11 Best & Fairest award
winner. Ashley’s other medal
was a bronze in the Mens Class
11 Singles behind World #3
Sam Von Einem and #29 Rory
Carroll. Ashley and Rory came
third in the Mens Class 11 &
Deaf Doubles while he and Kate
came fourth in a very strong
Class 11 & Deaf Teams event,
in which they lost numerous
matches narrowly.
Besides her gold medal with
Andrea, Larissa’s introduction
to Para Table Tennis pitted
her against both Andrea and
Melissa in her singles in which
she acquitted herself very
well, troubling both players
and showing she is potentially
a strong contender in future
years. Larissa won a bronze
medal in the Womens Open
Kate Juillerat was Queensland’s
other gold medallist, sharing
it with Victoria’s Louise
Antonovich in the Womens
Class 11 & Deaf Doubles. Kate
also won two silver medals,
going down to Louise in the
Womens Class 11 & Deaf Singles
and with Ashley Parrott to Rory
Carroll and Louise in the Class
11 & Deaf Mixed Doubles.
As always with this tournament,
all players, officials, coaches
and team supporters displayed
wonderful sportsmanship and
friendship, regardless of age or
ability. All agree that this is THE
best tournament in Australia
and one that all look forward
to every year. All players with
a disability of any sort are
encouraged to get involved !!
