Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce and held at the

Pennridge Chamber of Commerce Hosts
PA CareerLink JobGateway Seminar
PA CareerLink in conjunction with Pennridge Chamber of
Commerce held a seminar on August 21, 2013 at Bucks County
Community College detailing how to use Pennsylvania’s new
online tool, JobGateway. The event was conducted by Jeff
Harris, Business Services Representative for PA Career Link,
Bucks County. This employer-employee matching system
allows companies to easily find and connect to local jobseekers
and post available positions in the company, both free and
online. JobGateway was launched by PA last July and contained
over 80,000 fully registered job-seekers within the first six
months.
The presentation centered on how employers can register
and get the greatest benefit from use of the JobGateway website.
Those in attendance learned how to perform advanced searches
of qualified candidates and post available positions online at
no cost. The PA based system can also be used to research
critical Labor Market information.
The program proved to be so timely that the Chamber will
most likely run it again in the fall. Additional information can
be obtained by contacting the Chamber office at 215-257-5390
or by e-mail at [email protected]. For questions
regarding PA CareerLink, visit www.pacareerlink.state.pa.us.

Class of 2013 - 2014

Sports Concussion Testing is a Win
for Pennridge School District
and Grand View Hospital
Pennridge School District is hitting sports-induced concussions where it counts with the help of Grand
View Hospital. Pennridge continues to require its student athletes to take part in the innovative ImPACT
(Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) program this school year to assist the school
district’s athletic trainers when evaluating and treating head injuries.
All Pennridge High School and Middle School students who participate in a school-sponsored contact
sport will be given the computerized ImPACT exam. The test, administered by physical therapists from
Grand View Hospital, tracks memory, reaction time, speed, and concentration levels. The video game-style
format is non-invasive and takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Results of the test will be used as a baseline for evaluating future head injuries on the field. If an
athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury during competition, ImPACT is used to help determine
the severity of the injury. Retesting helps determine whether the injury has fully healed.
Currently, more than 10,000 medical professionals have been trained by ImPACT
on concussion management and the ImPACT Program. ImPACT is in use by many
teams in MLB, NHL, and NFL. More than 7,400 high schools, 1,000 colleges and
universities, 200 professional teams, and select military units also use ImPACT.
For more information on ways that Grand View Hospital can help sports organizations
administer ImPACT testing for their athletes, please call Physical Medicine at 215-453-3220.

their 19th Annual 5K
Race, Kids’ Fun Run
and Fitness Walk.
The race hosted over
600 runners from
surrounding communities, some coming from as far as Nevada.
Among the group of runners were 25 members of Souderton Fire
Company and their family members. The firefighters participated
in the 5K race to honor the Granite Mountain Hotshots, based
in Prescott, AZ, who were killed when a windblown wildfire
overcame them north of Phoenix. It was the deadliest single
day for U.S. firefighters since September 11th. The volunteer
firefighters ran the race in their uniforms and helmets. In all 19
years of the event, there had never been such a meaningful and
touching tribute.
Doylestown Hospital was recognized as one of the “Most
Wired” hospitals in the nation, according to the results of the
2013 Most Wired Survey released in the July issue of Hospitals
& Health Networks magazine. “Most Wired” hospitals have
“deployed technologies that improve patient documentation,
advance clinical decision support and evidence-based protocols,
reduce the likelihood of medication errors, and rapidly restore
access to data in the case of a disaster or outage,” according to
Hospitals & Health Network. Doylestown Hospital continues
to make significant investments in information technology that
improve patient safety and streamline processes involved in
patient care. Doylestown Hospital has also received the American
College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–
GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2013 – one
of only 130 hospitals nationwide to do so. The award recognizes
Doylestown Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing
a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies
that Doylestown Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of
treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by
the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association
