The Perfect Season
La Quinta Arts Foundation’s 30th Anniversary
season has officially concluded as the most
successful in our history, marking several major
milestones along the way:
• La Quinta Arts Festival earned the lofty
ranking as the #2 Fine Art Festival in the Nation
(Greg Lawler’s Art Fair Source Book). Although consistently ranked in the
Top 10 for many years, #3 was the highest ranking previously achieved.
• La Quinta Arts Festival 2012 set an all-time record for art sales and placed second in attendance history.
• Art Under the Umbrellas continued its phenomenal success by breaking attendance and art sales records for this series of one
day events.
• La Quinta Blues & Blues hit its stride, doubling previous year
attendance figures.
• LQAF Visual Art Scholarship Awards reached a total of One Million
Dollars to local students pursuing college degrees in the arts.
• LQAF was named 2012 Non-Profit of the Year from La Quinta Chamber
of Commerce on June 12, 2012.
La Quinta Arts Festival’s prestigious ranking plus the unprecedented
success of all LQAF events is attributed to the high quality of exhibiting
artists, the savvy of our art patrons and the loyal support of the
community.
The benchmarks set in 2011/12 will no doubt be hard to match, but we
definitely believe we are up to the task. “Promoting and Cultivating the
Arts” is more than a mission statement for La Quinta Arts Foundation,
it is our promise to the community we have proudly served for three
decades. With gratitude for support from our members, volunteers,
sponsors, artists, local business, civic and charitable organizations – and,
most especially the City of La Quinta, I am delighted to present the
La Quinta Arts Foundation Annual Review 2011/12.

Awards Reception
Art in Public Places
Hosted by LQAF board and staff members, Festival 2012’s
opening night reception was attended by well over 500
invited guests on the Civic Center Amphitheatre lawn from
5:30 to 7:30 pm. Along with the Festival Artists, special
invitees to the Awards Reception were LQAF Friends and
Patron Members, Docents, Home Hosts, Corporate
Sponsors, Community Partners, and dignitaries from the
City of La Quinta, Premier Sponsor for all LQAF events.
The awards reception was catered by donations from 10
Featured Festival Restaurants and Festival Sponsors.
The City of La Quinta Civic Purchase Committee chose a blown glass
sculpture by Randy Strong to join the 67 works of art procured over
the years, and displayed throughout La Quinta.
Festival 2012 Award Winners
It is our ongoing goal to continue to communicate La Quinta Arts
Festival as a viable Art in Public Places resource to cities and
developers. LQAF offers an artist registry (list source) on LQAF.com.
Best Of Category
LQAF’s website has been developed as an opportunity to promote
artists year round, with the development of the LQAF.com Artist
Galleries. The enhanced on-line profiles include the artist
statements and bios, contact information, artwork image galleries,
and website links. The LQAF.com Artist Galleries were launched and
tested in 2010/11 with complimentary one-year memberships.
During 2011/12, 35 artists invested $75 or $100 to join one of our
two new membership categories for participation in the LQAF.com
Artist Galleries.
Three Featured Festival Artists

•
Renowned glass artist Randy Strong was invited to be a
Featured Festival Artist and guest lecturer. Strong’s glass images were the focal point of the Festival’s marketing campaign.
Painter Delia Bradford’s impressionistic “California Wildflowers” painting was selected as the image for La Quinta Arts Festival’s 2012 Commemorative Poster.
Jeweler Denise Robertson’s “Got Art” pin was refashioned for the embroidery design on the Festival 2012 ladies t-shirts and used in various advertising collateral.
Banner & Sign Program
LQAF’s extensive marketing campaign expanded the banner
component reaching every corner of the City: 98 intersection pole
banners, 65 banners in the Village area, 28 banners in Old Town
La Quinta, 46 banners on the Civic Center Campus, and 8 large
scale image signs touting our #2 national ranking.

Art & Wine at The Wine Bar
October 17
LQAF officially launched its 30th
Anniversary Season with a reception and art exhibition co-hosted by
Robert Mott, proprietor of the newly
opened The Wine Bar at Old Town.
Complimentary wine tasting and
hors d’oeuvres prepared by Bristol
Farms were enjoyed by over 600
attendees while viewing art installations by Art Under
the Umbrellas artists Joanne Casey, Ric & Tim Vigallon,
Leslee Adams, Bart Aldrich, Silvio Silvestri, Amber Tibb,
and Linda & Charles Perkins. Seven art pieces representing $5,850 in sales were made throughout the season.
LQAF joined with Chico’s on
El Paseo to present plein air
painters Diane McClary, Silvio
Silvestri, and Elaine Mathews as
they painted on El Paseo, plus
art displays by exhibiting artists
Joanne Casey, Leslee Adams,
and Linda Shrimplin at Chico’s and Soma. LQAF volunteers served as models of Chico’s latest
fashions with 10% of the day’s proceeds
generously donated to LQAF in the amount of
$2,496. This marks the fifth year of LQAF’s
partnership with Chico’s.
La Quinta Blues & Brews
November 19
Art Under the Umbrellas
This popular series featured eight
Saturday events held at Old Town La
Quinta during 2011/12: October 29,
November 26, December 3,
January 14, February 11, February 18,
March 24, and March 31.
Art Under the Umbrellas 2011/12
again proved to be an
unprecedented success story on
every level. These free public events
were attended by more than 20,000
patrons who came out in droves for each Saturday event
that featured 70-80 artists, live music, and art
demonstrations along the streets and lawn of Old
Town La Quinta. Total art sales by 150 artists soared to
$646,000. The growing reputation of this show among
artists was apparent in the long wait lists in place for
each event, with far more applicants than booth spaces
available.
C I V I C C E N T E R C A M P U S I N L A Q U I N TA
The fifth annual all day music
festival was again staged on
La Quinta’s Civic Center Campus

were offered, along with restaurant fare by
Fisherman’s Market & Grill and Baja Louie’s Mexican
Cantina. Lawn games including bocce ball, ladder
golf, and bean bag toss were added to the event this
year. An admission fee of $20.00 was charged at the
gate. Tickets purchased online were discounted to
$15, as were those with a direct mail card in hand
which was sent to all households in La Quinta.
Attendance totaled 1,700 – almost double from
previous year. 80 volunteers contributed 375 hours
to this event.
