Professional Development Tidbits – May 2016
Camille continues to be a busy place! April brings the beginning of our final term and preparation for the
end of the year and culminating activities. It is an exciting time for professional development as well. We
get a chance to begin reflecting on our year and planning for next year. Students are always at the center
of our discussions and the focus of our professional growth.
Where we’ve been:
April 4: Grade/Subject collaboration
April 11: Dave Martin, our division Math Lead Teacher, came in to present on critical thinking for our
math teachers. Kaela Masikewich, a student teacher at our school, offered a technology based
session on various educational apps and learning tools.
April 18: Staff Meeting
April 25: Dave Martin was in to present to our Middle School Math teachers on manipulatives and
strategies. Elementary teachers had a Math Daily 3 sharing session, and the Humanities teachers
gathered for an idea session to build literacy within our subject areas.
Where we’re going:
May 2: Full Day PD at the school. We will be working on visioning for Camille as we move toward a
French Immersion School next year. We will also have an opportunity to work on student transition
plans that will enable us to create class lists and assist students as they move toward next year.
Collaboration time
Knowing the Learner – creation of class lists, transition plans, IPPs, and Benchmarks for ESL students.
Summer Reading
It’s Important
During the summer our library will be open
two days a week for book exchanges and
activities.
Library hours are: Tuesdays 10 am-4 pm
Wednesdays 10 am-4pm
Story time will occur on each of these days at
11 am and 3 pm.
BOOKFAIR WINNER
Congratulations to Dawson Gower in Mme
Boissonneault’s class. Dawson was the winner of $25
to spend at the Book Fair. As well, Mme Boissonneault
was able to pick $25 worth of books for her class.
Thank you to all those who supported the Learning
Commons.

PLEASE MARK THESE VERY IMPORTANT DATES
IN YOUR CALENDAR!
At Band Festival:
The Band Program at Ecole Camille J. Lerouge had
a very successful week at the Red Deer Festival of
the Performing Arts. The Grade 5 Concert Band,
Grade 6 Concert Band, Grade 7 Concert Band,
Grade 8/9 Concert Band and the Jazz Band all
performed fantastically. The bands all received
either a Superior or an Excellent rating for their
performances. In addition, the Grade 7 Concert
Band won a scholarship for being the best Level 2
Band! All the students demonstrated a high level of
musicality and commitment to instrumental music.
Congratulations!
PEANUT ALERT!
LOOKING FOR LEGO!
Ms. Julie Masson, our Family School
Enhancement Counsellor, will be running a lego
social skills group here at Camille. She would
love any lego donations you might have. Be sure
to drop these off here at the Camille office.
Changes in the Air (May)
Warmer temperatures cause us to dream for summer days. With winter’s frigid temperatures behind
us one assumes idling will reduce. But idling is not
a seasonal activity. A Canadian study found on any
given August day, Canadians idle their vehicles for
a combined total of 46 million minutes per day.
Turning off our vehicles contribute to improving
air quality around our school. Additionally climate
can be affected by carbon dioxide emissions from
exhausts. We want warmer weather but let it happen naturally; not as a result of global warming.
Personal Appearance
We expect that children dress appropriately for school.
Appearance should reflect good judgment and respect
for self and others. Failure to show this good judgment
could result in the student being sent home to change.
Inappropriate attire includes:
 Unhemmed cut-offs, short skirts (no more than 8 cm
above the knee), shorts and dresses that do not
illustrate a business-like attire
 Excessively ripped or baggy clothing
 Sleeveless shirts, fish-net tops on gentlemen (tank
tops)
 Halter tops, spaghetti strap tops, beach/swimwear
tops, fish-net tops or other tops which insufficiently
cover body and undergarments
 Bare midriffs (shirts must be long enough to be
tucked in or meet the belt-line of pants), clothing with
plunging necklines, or backless clothing
 Headwear of any kind (hats, caps, bandannas,
sweat bands, etc.)
 Clothing which allows under garments to be
exposed
 Any combination of clothing which is considered
gang related
Middle school students are required to
wear a school gym strip for Physical
Education classes. Clothing depicting/
suggesting inappropriate words, symbols,
phrases, graffiti, etc. is not permitted.
Our school, Camille J. Lerouge School, has some
students that have a life-threatening allergic reaction
to peanuts or products containing peanuts/peanut oil.
With your cooperation, we can minimize the risk of
an allergic reaction.
SPRING BAND CONCERT
The Band Program at Camille will be having their Spring Band
Concert on Tuesday, June 7th at 7 pm. This concert will celebrate the successes of the band students and will take place at the
Memorial Centre (North of the school). Please plan to attend.
BON VOYAGE! HAVE A NICE TRIP!
A group of 26 Camille French Immersion grade 9
students are traveling to Montreal and Québec City
along with 5 lucky adults. They will be accompanied
by Mme Leger and M. Rheaume.
As well, a group of 17 English grade 9 students along
with one lucky adult are also traveling to Montreal
and Québec. They will be accompanied by Mrs.
Zackowski and Mr. MacLeod.
Both groups are away from May 27th to June 3rd for
this exciting experience!
Flip Flops and Mishaps on the Playground
With the warmer weather, some students are heading out to
the playground with flip flops. We are asking that you DO
NOT send your childr en to school with flip flops as they
are not safe outside footwear. The amount of accidents we
see in the office due to flip flops are concerning. We
appreciate your consideration with this matter.
Telephone Messages
The office is currently experiencing an increased volume of
requests for messages to be passed onto students. Please be
aware it is extremely difficult to ensure messages are passed
to your children without interrupting classes. The ongoing
interruptions to the classrooms are becoming a major
concern to teachers and a distraction for students. Please be
thoughtful and make necessary arrangements prior to your
child leaving for school in the morning. If you are worried
that your child may forget the arrangements, a note in the
agenda can be a useful reminder. It is also helpful to your
child if you have an alternate plan if you are running late, eg.
“If Mommy is not at our meeting place, just go into the
office and wait for me there.” Of course, there are always
exceptions and please do not hesitate to contact the office
staff directly in case of an emergency.
