Foundation! From 2011-2015, our school has raised $55,653.75 for this charity! A big
congratulations to our top fundraisers:

Professional Development Tidbits – May 2014
Where we’ve been:
April 13: Grade team collaboration and discussion of “At-Risk” students.
April 20: Sara, from Peace and Development, presented to staff about solidarity. This is in preparation of World Catholic
Education Day when our school will be praying in solidarity.
April 27: Full Day Professional Development
All Division French Immersion teachers met at Montfort Centre for the first time
ever! It was a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and share best practices.
Our focus was on developing strategies to increase the French oral skills of
our students.
Our English staff stayed back at the school and had a very productive day. Their
focus was learning how to use Google Classroom and collaboration in
preparation for year-end activities.
Where we’re going:
Staff Meeting
Preparation for World Catholic Education Day liturgy and praying in solidarity.
As the school year starts to wind down, it is important for our staff to collaborate on year end activities and exams.
PULL TOGETHER CAMPAIGN
In support of Ronald McDonald House
Congratulations Camille School! We collected
three buckets of pull tabs for this very worthwhile
cause which is double what we collected last year!
Be sure to continue to collect pull tabs as we will
continue to collect them for Ronald McDonald
House next school year!

community throughout the summer:

A Special Note Regarding Choir at Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame High School
We`d like to clarify some information that was inaccurately communicated in our Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame Course
Description Booklet, which students recently used to select their course for the 2015-16 school year.
Choir will be offered as a five credit, full-year course, during Block 1, every other day. It will not be offered after school, as
stated in the course description booklet. If this schedule clarification fits your own schedule better, please consider being a
part of the fantastic Notre Dame Choir. Please connect with your school counselor so that they can forward this information
to a high school administrator if this notice affects you and they will notify Notre Dame on your behalf.
At Band Festival:
The Grade 5 Band earned a Superior rating!
The Grade 6 & 7 Bands earned an Excellent rating!
The Junior Jazz Band and Senior Jazz Band earned
a Superior rating!
PEANUT ALERT!
Our school, Camille J. Lerouge School, has some
students that have a life-threatening allergic
reaction to peanuts or products containing
peanuts/peanut oil.
With your cooperation, we can minimize the risk
of an allergic reaction.
The Grade 8/9 Band earned a Superior rating!
Please congratulate these musicians for their
exceptional effort and talent and our wonderful
band instructor, Mr. Tim Brehaut!
BON VOYAGE!
A group of 45 Camille grade 9 students are traveling to
Montreal and Québec City along with 11 lucky adults.
They will be accompanied by Mme Leger and M.
Rheaume from May 21 to 31 for this exciting experience!
Personal Appearance
We expect that children dress appropriately for school.
Appearance should reflect good judgment and respect
for self and others. Failure to show this good judgment
could result in the student being sent home to change.
Inappropriate attire includes:
 Unhemmed cut-offs, short skirts (no more than 8 cm
above the knee), shorts and dresses that do not
illustrate a business-like attire
 Excessively ripped or baggy clothing
 Sleeveless shirts, fish-net tops on gentlemen (tank
tops)
 Halter tops, spaghetti strap tops, beach/swimwear
tops, fish-net tops or other tops which insufficiently
cover body and undergarments
 Bare midriffs (shirts must be long enough to be
tucked in or meet the belt-line of pants), clothing with
plunging necklines, or backless clothing
 Headwear of any kind (hats, caps, bandannas,
sweat bands, etc.)
 Clothing which allows under garments to be
exposed
 Any combination of clothing which is considered
gang related
Middle school students are required to wear a school
gym strip for Physical Education classes. Clothing
depicting/suggesting inappropriate words, symbols,
phrases, graffiti, etc. is not permitted.
Flip Flops and Mishaps on the Playground
With the warmer weather, some students are heading
out to the playground with flip flops. We are asking
that you DO NOT send your children to school with
flip flops as they are not safe outside footwear. The
amount of accidents we see in the office due to flip
flops are concerning.
We
appreciate your
consideration with this matter.
Telephone Messages
The office is currently experiencing an
increased volume of requests for messages to
be passed onto students. Please be aware it
is extremely difficult to ensure messages are
passed to your children without interrupting
classes. The ongoing interruptions to the
classrooms are becoming a major concern to teachers and a
distraction for students. Please be thoughtful and make
necessary arrangements prior to your child leaving for
school in the morning. If you are worried that your child
may forget the arrangements, a note in the agenda can be a
useful reminder. It is also helpful to your child if you have
an alternate plan if you are running late, eg. “If Mommy is
not at our meeting place, just go into the office and wait for
me there.” Of course, there are always exceptions and
please do not hesitate to contact the office staff directly in
case of an emergency.
NEWCOMER ORIENTATION WEEK
The NOW program, or Newcomer Orientation Week, is
offered to immigrant students who will be starting high
school in Canada for the first time. Your child may have
many questions about their new school and this program
is designed to help prepare for this transition.
The program is being offered at Notre Dame High School
and Lindsay Thurber Composite High School from
August 25-27, 2015. Attendance is required for all three
days and there is NO cost for the sessions.
If you require any information or the registration package,
please see Irv Sandulak in Counselling at the school.
Changes in the Air (May)
Warmer temperatures cause us to dream for summer days.
With winter’s frigid temperatures behind us one assumes idling
will reduce. But idling is not a seasonal activity. A Canadian
study found on any given August day, Canadians idle their
vehicles for a combined total of 46 million minutes per day.
Turning off our vehicles contribute to improving air quality
around our school. Additionally climate can be affected by
carbon dioxide emissions from exhausts. We want warmer
weather but let it happen naturally; not as a result of global
warming.
Ecole Camille J. Lerouge School would like to invite you to our
EVENING OF EXCELLENCE
May 14, 2015 from 6:30-8pm.
Cross-curricular projects from grades 3-5 will be on display and presented
by our students. Come check it out and celebrate the success, hard work
and dedication our students have shown this year.
Thank you for continuing to support our school community!
RECESS EQUIPMENT
LEGO NEEDED!
School Council Recess Equipment Committee is responsible
for finding games, toys, etc. for outdoor recess as well as
indoor recess for days when it is too cold for the kids to go out
or too rainy. We are always looking for new and gently used
items like puzzles, games, soccer balls, skipping
ropes, etc. for kids to use indoors and outdoors. As well, our
teachers have been asking for Lego. We are asking if any
families have any new or gently used Lego they would donate
to the school. We have many classrooms and they all want it!
At anytime throughout the year, we would be happy to accept
any items for donation to the Recess Equipment Committee.
Items can be dropped off at the front office.
YEAR END EVENT
Please join us for a fun night with your family!
Wednesday, May 27 - Year End Event
Food Trucks! Bouncy Castle! Face Painting! Games!
5 - 7 pm - School Gym
Come ready for fun! Celebrate this amazing school
year with friends!
Would you like to learn more about what is happening in your child`s school?
School Council is a great way to learn about Ecole Camille J. Lerouge. Many parents attend our School Council
meetings just to see what is going on in the school and learn more as they are not able to volunteer in the school
during the day. There is no obligation to attend all of our meetings. You can drop in to any meeting any time
throughout the year! We love to see new parents and share information. You are welcome to just sit and listen.

skills required to achieve success in social situations. Students

confident as well. This program is specifically designed for
children with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD who have
internalizing and externalizing social skills difficulties.

CHORAL SINGERS UNITE SOCIETY
The Choral Singers Unite Society (CSUS) is a non-profit
organization registered under the Societies Act of Alberta.
CSUS is excited to provide opportunities for youth in our
community to participate in choral singing and enhance
their school music activities and choirs.
Placement
interviews for all choirs begin the third week in May and
run until September. Singers will come together each week
to experience the joy of singing. The youth in our
community will be united through the study and
performance of great choral music and discover that music
can be a bridge to such essential life skills as compassion,
understanding,
respect,
commitment,
discipline,
cooperation, and teamwork to name only a few of our goals.
As the program grows, opportunity for performance and
travel will ensue providing extended opportunities for the
singers to expand their musical experience. Choirs being
offered are:
Brioso Children’s Choir - grades 1-7 (Jr Gr 1-3, Sr Gr 4-7)
ihana Youth Choir - ages 14-22
