Dear Lord,
Creator and sustainer of all that is or will ever
be, accept our thanks for this day and all its
blessings. We ask that you guide and direct our
club, its leaders and our actions. Grant that each
of us may feel our responsibility to Rotary, to
our community, to our country, and indeed to
all countries and peoples. Bless our fellowship
today, and bless this food to the nourishment of
our bodies, in your service.
Amen

IT’S THE 4-WAY TEST
(Tune: It’s The Real Thing)
We’d like to help Pilipinos live
In perfect harmony
We’d like to help Pilipinos grow
As honest as can be.
The 4-Way Test is what we offer
To guide their way through life
It teaches them to tell the truth
And not to tell a lie.
Refrain:
It’s the 4-Way Test
It’s Rotary’s way
We’re all proud to say
It’s the 4-Way Test
We’d like to help Philippines grow
In the most beneficial ways
And bring Pilipinos all together
In harmony and peace.
The 4-Way Test is what we offer
To bind them all as one.
They’ll cherish truth as their ideal
Put lying out of mind
(Repeat Refrain)

Pres. Ner P. Laiño
Fellow Pasig Rotarians:
I will be attending the induction of the officers of our sister club
Hongkong Sunrise in the evening of July 15, 2015. We feel we
have to be there and IPP Ramy, PP Jing and PP Ducky will also be
attending. PP Celso will go there separately with spouse Enya.
July 2nd, a Thursday, was a holiday in Pasig so our first meeting
for this rotary year 2015 – 2016 was last July 9, 2015. Many past
presidents in this meeting expressed the view that I did not accept
the position when I made the acceptance speech last July 4 so I
told them in the presence of many other Rotarians in that meeting
that it can be presumed that I have accepted the position
considering that I have already been performing the duties of
president even before I took my oath on that day of July 4th. In
spite of this, I reiterated I will serve RC Pasig in the best way I can
and of course with the support and help of all the members of RC
Pasig.
The first board meeting for this rotary year was last July 7th and it
was attended by PE Ogie, Director Ray Armas, Treasurer Dennis
Albano, Club Administration Director Bebert Lacuna and
Secretary Peter John. Past Presidents Benny de Guzman, Peter
Javier and Conrad Cuesta also attended. The board, among others,
decided to hold a golf fund raising activity on September 28. As
suggested by PP Conrad, I already called PP Rel and asked him to
solicit the help of Rtn. Bart Ronquillo to ensure the success of the
fund raising activity. In the meantime, I would like to make an
initial report on the receipts and expenses of our induction affair as
follows:

It is hoped that another report especially on collections can
be submitted before the end of the month. I also hope we can make
a 100% collection on the induction assessments, on the
advertisements and on the P12,000.00 membership dues. Our
membership dues has been reduced to P12,000.00 and I am
appealing to all our members to pay this before the end of
September 2015. Originally, I said that the date should be end of
August but because of the P3,000.00 induction assessment which
all of us have been required to pay, I thought it would be better to
move this to September. I will admit it will be unreasonable if we
are in hurry. I am confident I can have your support on this.
With your support, I know our RC Pasig will always be the best in
District 3800 and maybe in the whole country. RC Pasig can
always lead the way. Let us light up Rotary and be all gifts to the
world.

WCP Ner gave us a good sample of what the President’s column
should be. I felt uneasy, it may rob me of my readership. He must
have liked my previous columns and did it ala Rotary Notes.
He acknowledged that in his acceptance speech, he was not able to
thank our club for the honor of making him our President. He forgot
to mention, “I accept” the challenge, even if it is highly presumed
already.
On a percentage of attendance basis, the induction night and his 1 st
meeting last week showed our poor attendance. At this stage, it is the
concern of everybody, especially the Pangkat Heads and Assistants.
A challenge to tap them to do also follow up calls, and, even for a
start have the buddy-buddy system. The Pangkat Head and his
assistant must pass for one each of their members. Or, as a token of
support, at the convenience of the one picking up a member, even a
member belonging to another pangkat.
WCP Ner appealed that we pay in full the 50% off annual dues. Many
complied but, hopefully, we will have a full support program for this
as it may start a Rotary Year of balanced budgeting, with attempts to
lower the gigantic payables of the club. We are a premiere club in
accounts payable? Pinahihirapan tayo ng Valle Verde Country Club
sa parking, pinahihirapan naman natin sila sa collection. Tit for
tat?
Last meeting, PP Sonny came early and left when he saw the lunch
for the day.
In our delayed issuance of our induction issue, there were past
presidents with small cross after their names, indicating, they have
gone ahead, nagmamadali baga. However, there are CP Totoy, PPs
Tacio, Johnny, Bing & Joe who also went ahead, walang small cross.

PP Jing is a very lively guy. He is happy with what the Thai doctors
did on his knees and he has given up his cane. Moreover, he is one
guy who greets everybody before he takes to his seat. He is again
active with his AWCP, “Creating Connections” in his line to make
more money.
In Intercity or TriCity affairs, we should sing the adopted Rotary
Song of District 3800. This was composed by PP George Canseco of
the Rotary Club of Kamuning when it was yet part of District 380,
the forerunner of District 3800. For a while many countries used this
also. However, for some of our weekly meetings, the composition of
PP Peter, My Rotary Day, would be perfect.
PP Vic A. did a very good fining session worthy of the first meeting
officially for RY 2015-16. First time a new President was fined the
full amount for the entire year. Hindi pa nag-accept ng Presidency,
na fine na in full?
Two past presidents enriching Medical City are Celso and Bobby.
Both over stayed their confinement to do some needed rests. Celso
had some fears of major illnesses but several tests showed he is very
very healthy with sound sex drives. Bobby could not have any health
bulletins except from some quarters we heard he was asking for
prayers. Pura & I attempted to visit since we had reliable information
that he was ready for discharge but we were just informed the patient
appreciated our efforts. Naka discount kami for a short time in
parking. Anyway, from PVP Louie’s son, I heard he had a dental
check up in their Medical City clinic. He just lost a little weight but
he stayed in the hospital for more than two weeks.

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE
K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran
President 2015-16
July 2015
We in Rotary aspire to great deeds. We admire
those who gave great gifts to humanity: Abraham
Lincoln, who gave the gift of human dignity to the downtrodden;
Mother Teresa, who gave the gift of compassion to the forgotten;
Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the gift of peaceful change to the
oppressed. Their very lives became gifts to the world.
We can be inspired by their example. We can be inspired to ask, how
can I, in the life that I live – without neglecting the responsibilities
that are so dear to me – how can I, too, become a gift to the world?
As I considered my theme, I thought of the lessons I have learned
through my Hindu faith. I thought especially of the story of Sudama.
Sudama was a poor child and a bosom friend of Krishna, who was
born in a royal lineage as an avatar – an incarnation of the divine. As
the two boys grow up, they drift apart, and while Krishna becomes a
military leader and king of great repute, Sudama remains a humble
villager.
The years go by and Sudama's poverty deepens. Finally, he lacks
even food to feed his children. His wife reminds him of his childhood
friendship with Krishna: Perhaps it is time to go to the mighty ruler
for help. Reluctantly, Sudama agrees, but resolves that he will not go
empty-handed. He gathers together a few handfuls of rice – all the
food his family has left – and wraps them in a piece of cloth as a gift
for his friend.

Continuation 1.
When Sudama enters the palace, he is overwhelmed by the grandeur
and by Krishna's gracious welcome. His meager gift, so carefully
prepared, seems a humiliating reminder of his poverty. Krishna
embraces Sudama, who hides the hand holding the rice behind his
back. Krishna asks what he is holding.
Far from being disdainful, Krishna accepts the rice with gratitude and
consumes it with joy as the two sit and talk together. Hours pass,
during which the pleasures of their rekindled friendship push all
thoughts of his desperate plight from Sudama's mind. When evening
falls, Sudama sets out for home – and only then realizes that he has
neglected his task. He is returning with nothing, and Krishna has
eaten his family's last grains of rice.
Sudama steels himself to return to his hungry children. But standing
before his gate, as dawn begins to break, he sees that the hut he left
yesterday has become a stately home, and waiting to greet him is his
own family: well-dressed, and well-fed by the baskets of food that
appeared in their kitchen as Krishna ate each grain of Sudama's rice.
Krishna understood what Sudama had brought him: everything he
had to give. In return, Krishna gave him everything he needed. It is
never the material value of a gift that matters – it is the love that
comes with it. Just as Sudama's gift to Krishna became a gift to
Sudama, what we give through Rotary becomes a gift to us. And we
all have a choice: whether to keep our gifts to ourselves or give them
to others, and Be a Gift to the World.
We have only one chance at our lives. And we will have only one
chance at this new Rotary year. This is our time. Let us grasp it. Let
us Be a Gift to the World.
