FRIDAY, MAY 30TH - Saint Benedict Center

THURSDAY, MAY 29TH – THE ASCENSION. The
meaning and the fullness of Christ’s Resurrection is
given in the Ascension. Having completed His mission
in this world as the Saviour, He returned to the Father
in Heaven Who sent Him into the world. In ascending
to the Father, He raises earth to Heaven with Him! Holy
Day of Obligation, Masses at 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
No School.
FRIDAY, MAY 30TH – Saint Joan of Arc. In the village
maid who conquered France we find fulfilled the
words: All things are possible with God!
SATURDAY, MAY 31ST – Queenship of Mary. In his
encyclical To the Queen of Heaven, Pius XII points out
that Mary deserves the title because she is Mother of
God, because she is closely associated as the New
Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her
preeminent perfection and because of her
intercessory power.
Notice:!
Out of courtesy, we ask
parents to take their crying
or fussing children out until
they quiet before returning
to Mass. Thank you.

JUST as the soul gives life to the body, so grace gives life to the soul. And so our Lady, obtaining grace
for sinners through her intercession, brings back life to their souls. They who find me find life, and win
favor from the Lord. (Prv. 8:35) All you who hunger for the Kingdom of God, honor the most Blessed
Virgin Mary and you will find life and eternal salvation. St. Bernardine of Siena says that the reason why
God did not destroy the human race after the first sin was His singular love for this holy Virgin, who was
eventually to be born of the race. Indeed, he says, all the mercies granted under the old dispensation
were no doubt granted only in consideration of this most Blessed Lady. In the Canticle of Canticles
(6:10), Mary is called the dawn: Who is she that comes forth as the dawn? Dawn is the end of night
and the beginning of day; the Blessed Virgin is the dawn of day, because
she is the end of vice. When devotion to Mary begins in anyone, it
produces the same effect that Our Lady's birth produces in the world: it
ends the night of sin and leads a person along the bright path of
virtue. …Go with trust to this most glorious Lady. You will find her
hands filled with mercy and bounty. She longs to do you good
much more than you could ever long to receive good from her.
Take cover under Mary's
No sinner who turns to this compassionate Lady should ever be
afraid of being spurned – she is the very Mother of Mercy and …it
is her ambition to save the most miserable of all.
(St. Alphonsus Ligouri, “The Glories of Mary”)
mantle …surely she will
welcome us and secure
our eternal salvation.

THURSDAY, MAY 1ST – Saint Joseph the Worker, patron of the universal Church, watch over the Church
as carefully as you watched over Jesus, help protect it and guide it as you did with your adopted Son.
Teach us to seek and work for union with God in all things.
FRIDAY, MAY 2ND – Saint Athanasius. Feastday of Sr. Mary Athanasius, MICM.
SATURDAY, MAY 3RD – Finding of the True Cross. First Saturday. First Holy Communion Day for: Erin
Callahan, Mulunesh Creaghan, Christian Hale, Cyril Ifenuk, Olivia Maney, Adam Napoli, Anne-Claire Nickle,
Agnes Sales, Michael Terhune, and Caleb West. Mass at 9:00 a.m.
SUNDAY, MAY 4TH – 2ND SUNDAY AFTER EASTER. Saint Monica illustrates the fruits of persevering
prayer. The fact that she prayed and suffered
for eighteen long years should prove to us how
difficult it is to win back to God a soul that has
let itself go freely into sin.
MONDAY, MAY 5TH – Pope Saint Pius V. “You
are the salt of the earth! You are the light of the
world! See to it that the people are edified by
your example, by the purity of your lives, by the
moderation of your conduct, and the brilliance
of your holiness! God does not ask of you mere
ordinary virtue. He demands downright
perfection!” (Pius V)

MARK
YO UR MAY
CALENDAR!
Honor your Heavenly Mother! Join us for the May Procession on Sunday, May 18th.
Following 10:30 a.m. Mass, five statues will
be crowned along the route, each followed
by a decade of the Rosary. The procession will
end with Benediction of the Blessed
Sacrament on the front lawn of the convent.
Bring a favorite dish or dessert for the picnic
following!
WEDNESDAY, MAY 7TH – Solemnity of Saint
Joseph. “Saint Joseph was a just man, a tireless
worker, the upright guardian of those entrusted
to his care. May he always guard, protect and
enlighten families.” (Pope Saint John Paul II)
❖
❖
❖
THURSDAY, MAY 8TH – Our Lady of Pompei.
Miracles and favors have taken place through
the intercession of Our Lady of Pompei (a
rendition of which hangs above IHM altar.)
❖
❖
❖
❖
SATURDAY, MAY 10TH – Saint Damien of
Molokai spent 16 years of his life serving those
exiled to its infamous leper colony. Let us pray
to him for the courage to make such great
sacrifices in order that souls may be saved!
❖
❖
SUNDAY, MAY 11TH – 3RD SUNDAY AFTER EASTER. Saints Philip and James,
Apostles.
TUESDAY, MAY 13TH – Our Lady of Fatima. Our Lady’s message that men
“must amend their lives and ask forgiveness for their sins,” and that they
“offend the Lord God no more, for He is already much offended,” is meant
for all of us. All people can, by praying the daily Rosary, offering up
prayers and sacrifices demanded by their daily duty, restore the temporal
order in Christ.
FRIDAY, MAY 16TH – Saint Simon Stock received the Brown Scapular from
Our Lady. Her words to him were: “Receive, my beloved son, this scapular of
thy Order; it is the special sign of my favor, which I have obtained for thee and
for thy children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be
preserved from eternal fire. It is the badge of salvation, a shield in time of danger,
and a pledge of special peace and protection.” Have you been enrolled in the Brown
Scapular? Do you wear it at all times?
SUNDAY, MAY 18TH – 4TH SUNDAY AFTER EASTER. Bring your family and friends and join us today for
the May Procession in honor of Our Lady. The procession will begin after 10:30 a.m. Mass. Five statues
will be crowned along the route, each followed by a decade of the Rosary, and the procession will end
with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on the front lawn of the convent. Bring your favorite dish or
dessert for the picnic following! (School children should attend early Mass at 7:30 a.m.) No 11:00 a.m.
Mass today!
TUESDAY, MAY 20TH – Saint Bernadine of Siena’s preaching skills were so great, and the conversions so
numerous, that he has become associated with all areas of speaking, advertising, public relations, etc.
THURSDAY, MAY 22ND – Saint Rita of Cascia is well-known as a patron of desperate, seemingly
impossible causes and situations. This is because she has been involved in so many stages of life – wife,
mother, widow, and nun; she buried her family, helped bring peace to her city, saw her dreams denied
and fulfilled – and never lost her faith in God, or her desire to be with Him.
SATURDAY, MAY 24TH – Our Lady Help of Christians. Pius V inserted this invocation into the Litany of
Loreto after the Battle of Lepanto. It has attained special celebrity since Saint Don Bosco, founder of the
Salesian Congregation, dedicated to Our Lady, Help of Christians, the mother church of his congregation
at Turin. The Salesian Fathers have carried the devotion to their numerous establishments.
SUNDAY, MAY 25TH – 5TH SUNDAY AFTER EASTER. Pope Saint Gregory VII.
MONDAY, MAY 26TH – Saint Philip Neri was known to be spontaneous and unpredictable, charming and
humorous; his life proves to us that our Faith is happy and joyful. Rogation Day.
TUESDAY, MAY 27TH – Saint Bede the Venerable. The spring Rogation Days are May 26-28. The primary
purpose of the Rogation Days is to ask God to bless the fields and the parish (the geographic area) that
they fall in. By praying for good weather and a fruitful harvest, the Rogation Days remind us that the
Church’s liturgical calendar is tied to the changing seasons.
