Project Description
Background:
For ten days each summer, the city of Saskatoon bursts into song as the SaskTel
Saskatchewan Jazz Festival plays host to hundreds of world class artists. Over 85,000
hungry music fans devour the sounds of jazz, blues, funk, pop, and world music each
year, with a program that spans as many genres as it does continents.
The first festival took place in Saskatoon during the summer of 1987. Today it has
become the second largest festival of its kind in Western Canada.
Project:
The Festival must start promoting this years edition scheduled from June 25 to July 5
2015. The promotion will include the design of three components:
1. Poster with card pocket
2. Five cards of artist
3. T-Shirt
Target Market:
People of 19-30 ages who are fans of all music related to jazz, blues, funk, pop and world
music.
Poster with card pocket
Main component of the promotion, the poster should entice the viewer to come to the
celebration. This poster will include a pocket that will easily hold 5 cards of artist. This
pocket will be pasted on the poster.
Cards of artist
You will be creating 5 separate cards, one per artist. The graphic design of the cards must
relate to and complement the poster and the T-Shirt. The pages of each card must be
designed using page templates. All titles and texts must be formatted with stylesheets.
T-Shirt
The graphic design of the t-shirt must relate to and complement the poster and cards of
artist.

(front)
Arturo Sandoval
June 25 to July 5 2015
(back)
Arturo Sandoval
A protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a
small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet
at the age of twelve, but it didn’t take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world.
He has since evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz
trumpet and flugelhorn. A taste of his professional credits include playing for millions at
the Oscars performing with Celine Dion, at the Grammy Awards with Justin Timberlake
and the Billboard Awards with Alicia Keyes.
Card 2
(front)
Christian McBride
June 25 to July 5 2015
(back)
Christian McBride
It’s not simply his abundant virtuosity that has made Christian McBride the most
in-demand bassist of his generation. McBride consistently combines his deft
musicianship with an innate ability to communicate his enthusiasm to an audience. Any
time that McBride steps into the studio or onto a stage he plays what could be called
“people music”, but it’s a particularly apt title for the second release by his hard-swinging
acoustic quintet - Inside Straight.

John Antoniuk
June 25 to July 5 2015
(back)
John Antoniuk
John Antoniuk, aka “Smokekiller”, is a singer and songwriter from Saskatoon to
Saskatchewan. John’s music draws a diverse range of comparisons from Teenage Fanclub
and Weezer, to Ryan Adams and Neil Young. In 2003, John released the Side A EP which
quickly garnered him attention as a songwriter and saw him sharing the stage with artists
like Ron Sexsmith, and Hayden.
Card 4
(front)
Laila Biali
June 25 to July 5 2015
(back)
Laila Biali
Award-winning Canadian Jazz pianist and vocalist, Laila Biali, has been garnering
not only national attention but world-wide recognition for her music which she has
performed at prestigious venues spanning five continents. She has toured with GRAMMY
Award winners Chris Botti, Paula Cole and Suzanne Vega, and recorded with and
supported international icon, Sting. Laila takes the best of pop, rock, classical, world and
soul, informs it with her Jazz expertise, and weaves it all into her musical arrangements.
Card 5
(front)
St.Vincent (Annie Clark)
June 25 to July 5 2015
(back)
St.Vincent (Annie Clark)
St.Vincent has been moving at a breakneck speed for the past two years, barely stopping
to catch her breath amidst a whirlwind of recording and touring. In 2011 she released her
third album, “Strange Mercy”, called “one of the year’s best” by the New York Times and
“something to behold” by Pitchfork. She is now one of the generation’s most fearsome and
inventive guitarists. St.Vincent’s newest album (self-titled) is her most lyrically sophisticated
and musically diverse collection to date, meshing distorted, aggressive electric guitars and
bold vocal and synthesizer arrangements on top of a relentless rhythm section.
