A word from the President
Welcome to October! I call this month the scary month. Why scary month you ask? Well it starts
out with leaves falling from the trees...scary site. Followed by pumpkins every where. ..literally
every where. ...scary. Then we move to frost on my windshield, seeing my breath in the wee
morning hours...then let us not forget the time change thing. You know the saying: fall behind
and spring ahead. With all these signs we all know what is coming....that scary thing called WINTER and SNOW.?ê The not knowing how much and when it will happen. .scary. oh did I forget
the holiday at the end of the month? I do see the humor in all this...we all know changes are coming and we will deal with them as true Norwegians! We will have a smile on our face and be ready
for the big scary month. Happy scary month to you- and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Dean Kluge.
Birthdays! Happy Birthday to you!

Our sympathy to the family of Selma Braun who passed away on September
16th at the age of 99 years. She would have reached her 100th birthday in
January. Selma was proud of her Norwegian heritage and carried on its traditions. She was an expert at hardanger embroidery and made hundreds of
hardanger pieces for her church’s bazaar. Her picture and a story about her
hardanger work were featured in the Free Press a few years ago. She enjoyed Sons of Norway and was able to attend meetings until last year. Selma
is survived by her two sons and a daughter and their spouses and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
