CHERYL PRASHKER
Since arriving in Canada
in 1985 during the height
of political repression in
his native Guatemala,
Alfredo Caxaj has truly
made a difference in his
adopted community of
London, Ontario. With an
intuitive understanding
of the power of the arts,
and of cultural diversity
as the very essence of
the human experience,
his vision has remained
tenacious and his
organizing skills tireless.
Selected by The London
Free Press as one of
his city’s 150 most
influential individuals
past & present, Alfredo
continues to change the
face of London - and the
face of London continues
to change Alfredo!
Andy is an established
leader in the cultural
industries sector
with knowledge of
signature music events
locally, nationally and
internationally.
Arriving from
Manchester, England in
1982, Andy started his
career as a Canadian
recording artist,
completing two albums
for Sony Records with his
band the Tenants.
In 1994, Andy CoFounded and became
Managing Director of
North By Northeast
Conferences Inc. (NXNE)
based in Toronto. Over
a period of 18 years he
established the NXNE
brand to be recognized
world wide as Canada’s
premier showcase event
for the best new music.
In April 2014, Andy
accepted the position
as Executive Director of
ECMA, and re-located to
Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Ari began his work with
Polydor/Atlas Records,
in the early ‘90s. He then
joined up with Capitol
Records as a marketing
representative. Working
with major artists such
as John Spencer, George
Clinton, and Radiohead,
Nisman built a strong
working knowledge for
marketing and promotion.
But it was his work with
younger bands that gave
him more pleasure. He
supported budding acts
(at the time) such as
Stir, Less Than Jake,
and Jimmy Eat World
during his stay there.
Nisman transitioned into
the booking world in
2001 when he built Degy
Booking International,
an international booking
agency aimed at
launching up-and-coming
music acts. The company
is now one of the largest
providers of music to
the N. American college
market; booking well
over 2000 shows a year. Bruce is President of
Halifax based (MMII)
Music Marketing
International Inc. MMII
offers domestic and
international artist
management, booking
and marketing services.
MMII also provides
event organization and
management, creates
seminars and workshops
for music & cultural
industry professional
development, cultural
market research and
consulting to cultural
enterprises. MMII also
produces the annual
January/February
Blues Meltdown
series throughout the
Maritimes, the Halifax
Natal Day Bluesfest
and this year produced
a Canada Day family
event in Quispamsis and
a mid July Louisbourg
Rocks concert at Fortress
Louisbourg.
Having cut her teeth
as a publicist, with a
client list that included
Arcade Fire and Black
Kids, Veitch has worked
in the music business
a decade as an artist
manager, label rep, panel
programmer, consultant
and most recently with
indie publisher, Third
Side Music. Since joining
TSM four years ago to
head up licensing and
consulting for games,
ads and trailers in Los
Angeles, she has worked
on intensive projects
with Rockstar Games,
Electronic Arts, Apple,
Disney, Nike, Chevy and
Guinness. She works
regularly with her roster
of artists, which includes
Amon Tobin, De Lux,
Quantic, Young Fathers,
and Dan Boeckner
(Divine Fits/Operators/
Handsome Furs), to bring
together unlikely pairings
and create new music for
theatrical and advertising
campaigns and games. Cheryl studied classical
percussion at McGill
University in Montreal,
where she was born
and raised. She has
toured Canada, U.S., and
Europe with The Yiddish
Theatre of Montreal. She
spent years in New York
City where she honed her
skills of playing anything
from Rock and Roll,
Klezmer, to Celtic as well
as Middle Eastern music.
She now uses her style
of percussion to enhance
the music of such artists
as Jonathan Edwards,
Pat Wictor, Tracy
Grammer and her group
RUNA. Cheryl is also a
songwriter and President
of NERFA (Northeast
Regional Folk Alliance). EXEC U TIV E + A R T D IR ECT O R
