FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear fellow workers,
The Inter-American Division, as always, is in the forefront of enjoying the participation
of its valuable members of all genders, races, and levels of education in the
administration and leadership of the church. There is no limit nor restriction,
according to the guidelines of the church; and all who have received the call to service
are welcome to fully participate.
We cannot allow ourselves the luxury of excluding the largest segment of the church,
based on gender and other social discriminating factors. If this is allowed, the church
will be the great loser, and blessings that could be otherwise received, will not come
to the church.
This meeting is called especially to celebrate the many gifted, talented, and
consecrated leaders of the female gender in the Inter-American Division. We are
proud to recognize that female leaders in our division can feel as the “church,” and
not just “part of the church.” Being “part of” gives the impression of not belonging
to the main, but just an appendix to the same. You are not an appendix, where others
will make decisions to allow or not to allow your participation. You are the church,
and as such must find joy and satisfaction in service.
The blessing female leaders have been to the church in the Inter-American Division
is a tribute to the fact that in the Inter-American Division every member, regardless
of gender, has the privilege to contribute to the advancement of the church.
You are a blessing, because in so many ways you bring perspectives to administration
that may otherwise have been overlooked. This is appreciated and valued, and
therefore, The Inter-American Division Administration values your active and
dedicated participation in the mission of the church; and with this token of gratitude
wants to reassure you of our commitment to be of help in all we can, in order for you
to find satisfaction in the service of the King.
Thank you for accepting the invitation, and may the Division be a better organization
because of your ministry and service.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Colleagues:
This is it—a meeting of the women who lead in the Inter-American Division! This
meeting at the beginning of a new decade is no ordinary conference. The Women in
Leadership Conference, 2010, is more than the meeting of the minds and sharing of
the dreams of women.
We want to make a difference in this decade. We cannot stand still on our past
victories. We must tiptoe into a meaningful future—far and beyond into an impressive
horizon—God’s ideal for His children.
It is my wish that at this conference, the motivation of the presentations, the warmth
from our mingling, the mixture of our laughter and tears, coupled with our agonizing
prayers to God, we the women of the Inter-American Division will move beyond our
theme of making a difference into a pattern of “godliness, godlikeness, the goal to
be reached.”

DESCRIPTION OF BREAK-OUT SESSIONS
1. A Positive and Realistic Leader —Dr. Myrna Costa
The purpose of this seminar is to examine and establish principles of applied
action to the different operational levels explored. It will consider new
perspectives to the different scenarios or realities that a leader confronts. This
seminar will dedicate time to positively relate to our responsibilities of being
leaders and with our reality.
2. God’s Loving Prescription —Kathleen H. Liwidjaja-Kuntaraf M.D., M.P.H.
The November 2005 issue of National Geographic mentioned 3 groups of healthy
centenarians. Could this be the norm for women in leadership or are they
considered as an exception? How do women handle menopause with the
confusing message regarding the hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?
Attending God’s Loving prescription seminar will give you the recent alternative
guidelines on how to cope up with these “annoying” symptoms so you can
continue to be the woman in leadership making a difference for God’s work.
3. Leading With Integrity —Dionne Parker
Do we always do what we say we will do – keep our commitments? Do we instill
trust in those who we lead? Leading with integrity means thinking about how
everything we do or say will influence those who look to us for direction. In this
session we will discuss the meaning of integrity, the benefits of leading with
integrity and how to create a personal code of ethics.
4. The Joy of Reconnecting —Carla Baker
The Joy of Reconnecting – In Luke 15 Jesus relates three parables that teach us
the value heaven places on those who are missing from church. As we begin to
reconnect with those who have stopped attending church—for any reason—we
become partners with God and rejoice with heaven when they come back.
This seminar teaches the principles of reconnecting with women who no longer
attend church.
5. Leadership and Networking —Dr. Linda Koh
In today’s global community, leadership effectiveness requires a new approach—
networking! Everyone knows networking is the key to getting ahead in any career;
and for leaders, networking maximizes on organizational, team, and individual
effectiveness. Come and find out what benefits networking can do for you.
6. End It Now!—Mrs, Raquel Arrais and Mrs. Heather Dawn Small.
This seminar describes an initiative with the United Nations to end domestic
violence. Come and find out how we as leaders can put an end to the monster
of domestic violence and other manifestations of abuse to our women.
7. Allliances for Success: Working with Men —Dr. Rosa Banks
Can women who are leaders work with men without frustrations? What are the
advantages/disadvantages of this alliance? Find out from our presenter the
secrets of success.

LADY ALLEN
HER EXCELLENCY THE MOST HONOURABLE
LADY ALLEN is the wife of His Excellency the
Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen.
In addition to being a Nurse Practitioner, Her
Excellency has served the Seventh-day Adventist
Church for several years as a pastor’s wife, the
Shepherdess Sponsor, ministering to clergy
spouses in Jamaica,, the Cayman Islands, Turks
and Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas; as well as
a teacher ,and Director of the Human Resources
Department of the Northern Caribbean University.
We are honored to have Lady Allen as our
presenter of the keynote address at the Women in
Leadership Conference.

DR. ROSA TAYLOR BANKS
ASSOCIATE SECRETARY,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Dr. Rosa Maria Taylor Banks, a Credentialed
Commissioned Minister has been employed by the
Seventh-day Adventist Church for 40 years. She
served Oakwood College for 22 of those years as
a professor, department head, executive assistant
to the president, vice president for Administration
and Development, the latter being a first for
women at this institution.
She was called to the General Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists in 1989 becoming the first
female General Field Secretary and Director of the
Office of Human Relations. When the North
American Division was created in 1990, her office was transferred to the
Division where she has served for 16 years. During her tenure as director of Human
Relations she helped to create Women’s Ministries and Disabilities Ministries and 11
policies and guidelines of the Church which were voted in annual councils and yearend meetings.
Her election as associate secretary of the North American Division in 1990
distinguished her as the Division’s first female officer. In 2005 she was elected as an
associate secretary of the General Conference, the first woman to hold this position
in the church’s then 142-year history. In her present position she serves as Secretariat
liaison between the General Conference and two African Divisions: West-Central
Africa and East-Central Africa, which covers 32 countries and where over three million
Seventh-day Adventists reside. She also coordinates the church’s missionary care
program and recruits and relates to approximately 150 missionaries directly.
An author, policy developer, workshop and seminar presenter, preacher, immediate
past president of Operation ReachBack and immediate past treasurer of the Council
on Service and Leadership, she is married to Halsey Banks. They are the proud
parents of three young adults – Kevin, Karmala, and Marcellus and grandparents of
five lovely young girls – Keanna, Kai, Faith, Shona, and Phoenix. They are members
of the Mitchellville Seventh-day Adventist Church.

MRS. RAQUEL COSTA ARRAIS
WOMEN’S MINISTRIES ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Raquel Queiroz da Costa Arrais presently
holds the position of Associate Director for
Women’s Ministries at the General Conference of
Seventh-day Adventist. Raquel is the wife of Pastor
Jonas Arrais who is the Associate Ministerial
Secretary at the General conference and they have
two sons: Tiago, and Andre and one daughter
in-law Paula. Raquel grew up in a pastoral family
and is a third generation Seventh-day Adventist
Prior to coming to the General Conference she was
Women’s Ministries and Shepherdess associate
director for the South American Division
(2000-2003) and Children’s Ministries director (2004 – 2005).
For 20 years Raquel worked as an educator and administrator in Brazil. In 1997 she
got her master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Andrews University.
Raquel loves reading, walking, playing the piano and collecting pictures of
women’s faces. She enjoys spending time with women, ministering to them,
and learning from them.
She has a desire to see more women accepting God’s call and being involved with
the mission of the church.
Her favorite word is courage and her favorite Bible text is Joshua 1:9.

MS. DIONNE PARKER
ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Ms. Parker works at the General Conference Office
of General Counsel as an Associate General
Counsel and focuses primarily on the areas of
employment law and intellectual property for the
General Conference and other Church entities.
Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Ms.
Parker was an associate at a Washington, D.C.
labor and employment law firm where her practice
emphasis was in employment litigation and
human resources law. Prior to attending law
school, Ms. Parker attended Columbia Union
College in Takoma Park, Maryland. In 1994 she
graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English and a
minor in Psychology. She is a 2002 graduate of the George Washington University
School of Law in Washington, D.C. Ms. Parker is a member of the bars of Maryland
and the District of Columbia; the United States Supreme Court; the United States
Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; and the United States District Courts for the
Districts of Maryland and the District of Columbia. She resides with her family in the
metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.

DR. KATHLEEN H. LIWIDJAJA- KUNTARAF
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR PREVENTION,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Kathleen Kuntaraf was called to work at the World
Headquarters of the General Conference of SDAs
in Silver Spring, as an Associate Director for
Prevention since 1995. She has promoted and
coordinated numerous healthy lifestyle training in
various places including Australia, Bangladesh,
Bahamas, Bermuda, Botswana, Brazil, Canada,
China, Colombo, Cote D’Ivoire, England,
Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Kenya,
Madagascar, Malaysia, Myanmar, Netherlands,
Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Philippines,
Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Ukraine,
US and Zimbawe.
Prior to her current position, Kathleen had worked in Medan Adventist hospital
and Bandung Adventist hospital until the year 1987. She and her husband,
son and daughter moved out to Singapore where she was given a new responsibility
of being the Assistant Director for ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency)
and then a full time Director for the Health Department of the Far Eastern Division of
Seventh-day Adventists.

DR. LINDA MEI LIN KOH
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Linda was born and raised in Singapore. Prior to
her appointment to the General Conference
Children’s Ministries Department, Linda has
served for nine years as director of Children’s,
Family, and Women’s Ministries of the Southern
Asia Pacific Division, based in the Philippines. She
obtained her doctoral degree in Educational
Psychology and Counseling from Andrews
University, Michigan, USA, and has 24 years of
teaching experience behind her, ranging from
elementary to the college level.
Dr. Koh is married and has two grown sons and
three grandchildren. She especially enjoys children and people and is involved in
activities that bring her in contact with them from all walks of life. Apart from her
busy work schedule, she also serves as a resource person for several professional
organizations, giving talks and conducting seminars on child development, parenting,
and family life relationships. She also writes for several magazines in Singapore, the
Adventist Review, Adventist World, Elder’s Digest, and other church papers.

MRS. CARLA BAKER
WOMEN’S MINISTRIES DIRECTOR,
North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists®
Carla Baker is the North American Division
Women’s Ministries Director. She previously
served for 9 years as a union women’s ministries
director and was also a local church women’s
ministries leader. She began her denominational
career as a church school teacher and has also
served as an administrative assistant and copy
editor and advertising manager of a union
magazine.
Her special areas of interest in women’s ministries
include reclaiming inactive members, ministry to
teens, and abuse prevention and education.

Biography
DR. MYRNA COSTA
PRESIDENT,
Antillean Adventist® University
Myrna Costa was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
Her parents, Julio Costa and Provi Velez
were among the pioneers and founders of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church in their home town.
She is married to Juan Jose Casado and they have
two college-aged girls studying at Walla Walla
University: Amaris and Idida.
During her youth, Dr. Costa wanted to become a
missionary so she began her studies at Antillian
College, now Antillean Adventist University. Years
went by and her desire to work in a foreign land
for her God, was put on hold. She completed her
BS in Elementary Education at Atlantic Union College then went to La Sierra University
for her Master of Arts degree. After graduation, La Sierra offered her the position of
Director of Admissions.
She continued her studies, while working full-time, obtaining her Doctor of Education
in Administration and Leadership degree in 1995. After 19 years of working at La
Sierra, a call from the General Conference was passed on to her to become a
missionary at, no other than, Antillean Adventist University. Her dream to become a
missionary finally became a reality. God wanted her to work for Him in her homeland!
“It has been a privilege and an honor for me to work at the educational institution
where I first decided to dedicate my life to Adventist education and to my Lord,”
Myrna says.
The Lord has blessed Dr. Costa’s leadership. Antillean has grown from the 719
students in 2001, when she was asked by the Board of Trustees to become Antillean’s
14th President, to 1,007 students enrolled last semester—“To God be the Glory.”
Under her leadership, Antillean has undergone several accreditations and have
obtained the highest rankings from Middle States Association, National League of
Nursing, Puerto Rico Council of Education and the Association of Adventist
Accreditation. Presently, Antillean is undergoing the construction of a three-story 400
women residence hall after having completed a two-story 20,000 square feet
Laboratory of Languages and Sciences building.
God is first in Myrna’s life. “Antillean looks quite different comparing it to what it was
when I studied here,” she says. Then adds: “To God be the Glory.”

MRS. HEATHER DAWN SMALL
WOMEN’S MINISTRIES DIRECTOR,
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Heather-Dawn Small presently holds the position
of director for Women’s Ministries at the
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®.
Heather-Dawn is the wife of Pastor Joseph Small
and the mother of a daughter Dalonne who is 25
years old and a son Jerard, who is 18 years old.
Prior to coming to the General Conference in 2001
she held the position of Children’s and Women’s
Ministries Director for the Caribbean Union
Conference located on the twin island republic of
Trinidad and Tobago for five years.
Heather-Dawn loves air travel, reading, embroidery, scrapbooking, and stamp
collecting and she enjoys ministry to women. As she travels the world she has three
passions - to see more women involved in evangelism, to encourage women to be
involved in ministry to others – especially young women, and to share the joy that
God has given her in spite of life’s many challenges. Her favorite word is “JOY” and
her favorite saying is “Don’t let anyone steal your joy.”

MRS. CLAUDETTE ANDREWS
WOMEN’S MINISTRIES DIRECTOR,
Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®
Claudette Joy Andrews is a Licensed, Certified,
Psychotherapist and Commissioned Minister of
the Gospel. She is married to Pastor Maurice
Andrews and the mother of three adult sons.
Presently she serves as Director of Women’s &
Children’s Ministries in the Caribbean Union of
Seventh-day Adventists. Her life’s motto is
“LIVING TO PLEASE GOD,” and her guiding
scriptural passage is II Corinthians 5:21.

Estimadas colegas,
Como siempre, la División Interamericana se encuentra a la vanguardia en cuanto a
gozar de la participación de sus valiosos miembros de todos los géneros, razas y
niveles de educación en la administración y liderazgo de la iglesia. No hay límite o
restricción, de acuerdo a las pautas seguidas por la iglesia; y todos los que han
recibido el llamado al servicio son bienvenidos a una participación total.
No podemos permitirnos el lujo de excluir al segmento más grande de la iglesia,
basándonos en discriminación de género o de otros factores sociales. Si esto se
permitiera, la iglesia sería la parte perdedora y no recibiría las bendiciones que de
otra manera podría recibir.
Se ha convocado a esta reunión especialmente para celebrar a las muchas mujeres
dirigentes talentosas y consagradas de la División Interamericana. Nos sentimos
orgullosos de reconocer que las mujeres líderes en nuestra división se pueden sentir
como la “iglesia” y no solamente como “parte de la iglesia.” Ser “parte de” da la
impresión de no pertenecer al cuerpo principal, sino ser solamente un apéndice del
mismo. Ustedes no son un apéndice, en el sentido de que otros puedan hacer
decisiones en cuanto a permitir o no permitir su participación. Ustedes son la iglesia,
y como tal, deben encontrar gozo y satisfacción en el servicio.
La bendición que las mujeres dirigentes han sido para la iglesia en la División
Interamericana es un tributo al hecho de que en la División Interamericana, cada
miembro, independientemente de su género, tiene el privilegio de contribuir al
avance de la iglesia.
Ustedes son una bendición, porque en diversas maneras añaden a la administración,
perspectivas que de otra manera se pasarían por alto. Esto es apreciado y valorado;
por lo tanto, la administración de la División Interamericana valora su activa y
dedicada participación en la misión de la iglesia; y con esta muestra de gratitud
desea asegurarles nuestro empeño en ayudarlas en todo lo que podamos, a fin de

Estimadas Compañeras
¡Eso es –una reunión de las mujeres en posiciones de liderazgo en la División
Interamericana! Esta reunión al comienzo de una nueva década no es un congreso
ordinario. El Congreso de Mujeres en Liderazgo 2010 es más que una conjunción
de mentes y un compartir de los sueños de las mujeres.
Deseamos hacer una diferencia en esta década. No podemos quedarnos inmóviles
en nuestras pasadas victorias. Debemos penetrar dentro de un futuro significativo –
mucho más allá hasta un horizonte impresionante –el ideal de Dios para sus hijos.
Deseo que en este congreso, la motivación de las presentaciones, la calidez de
nuestras interacciones, la mezcla de nuestras risas y lágrimas, juntamente con
nuestras agonizantes plegarias; nosotras, las mujeres de la División Interamericana
nos remontemos más allá de nuestro tema de hacer una diferencia, hasta un patrón
de “El blanco a alcanzarse es la piedad, la semejanza a Dios”

DESCRIPTION OF BREAK-OUT SESSIONS
1. Una Lider Realista y Positiva —Dra. Myrna Costa
El propósito de este seminario es examinar y establecer principios de acción
aplicada a los diferentes niveles operativos que se explorarán. Considerar una
nueva perspectiva de los diferentes escenarios o realidades que enfrenta un
líder. Dedicar tiempo a relacionarnos positivamente con nuestra responsabilidad
de ser líderes y con nuestra realidad.
2. Receta amorosa de Dios —Kathleen H. Liwidjaja-Kuntaraf M.D., M.P.H.
La edición de noviembre de 2005 de National Geographic, mencionaba tres grupos
de centenarias saludables. ¿Podría ser esta la norma para mujeres en liderazgo, o
pueden considerarse como una excepción? ¿Cómo manejar la menopausia con
los mensajes confusos acerca de la terapia de reemplazo de hormonas (HRT)? La
asistencia al seminario Receta amorosa de Dios le dará las pautas alterativas
recientes sobre cómo encarar esos “enojosos” síntomas, a fin de continuar siendo
la mujer dirigente que hace una diferencia en la obra de Dios.
3. Liderazgo con integridad —Dionne Parker
¿Hacemos siempre lo que dijimos que haríamos –cumplimos nuestros
compromisos? ¿Inspiramos confianza en aquellos a los que dirigimos? Dirigir con
integridad significa pensar en que cada cosa que hacemos o decimos ejercerá
su influencia sobre aquellos que buscan nuestra orientación. En esta sesión
discutiremos el significado de integridad, los beneficios de dirigir con integridad
y cómo crear un código de ética personal.
4. El gozo de la reconexión —Carla Baker
El gozo de la reconexión – En Lucas 15, Jesús cuenta tres parábolas que nos
enseñan el valor que le da el cielo a aquellos que se han alejado de la iglesia. Al
comenzar a reconectarnos con quienes han dejado de asistir a la iglesia por
cualquier razón posible, nos convertimos en socios de Dios y nos regocijamos
con el cielo cuando estas personas regresan. Este seminario enseña los
principios de la reconexión con mujeres que ya no asisten a la iglesia.
5. Liderazgo e intercomunicación en la red —Dra. Linda Koh
En la comunidad global actual, la eficacia del liderazgo requiere un nuevo
enfoque –interconexión en la red. Todos sabemos que la interconexión es la
clave para avanzar en cualquier carrera; y para los líderes, la interconexión
maximiza la eficacia de organización, de equipo y la individual. Asista a este
seminario para descubrir los beneficios de la interconexión en la red.
6. Enditnow – Sra. Raquel Arrais y Sra. —Heather Dawn Small
Este seminario describe una iniciativa en conjunto con las Naciones Unidas para
acabar con la violencia doméstica. Venga a descubrir cómo podemos, como
líderes, poner fin al monstruo de la violencia doméstica y otras manifestaciones
de abuso contra nuestras mujeres.

SU EXCELENCIA, LA HONORABLE LADY ALLEN
es la esposa de Su Excelencia, el Gobernador
General de Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen.
Además de ser una enfermera, ha prestado sus
servicios a la iglesia adventista durante varios años
como esposa de pastor, patrocinadora SIEMA,
ministrando a favor de esposas de pastores en
Jamaica, Islas Caimán, Turcos y Caicos y las
Bahamas; así como también como maestra y
directora del Departamento de Recursos
Humanos de la Universidad Norte del Caribe.
Nos honra la presencia de Lady Allen como oradora del discurso de apertura de
nuestro Congreso de Mujeres en Liderazgo.

DRA. ROSA TAYLOR BANKS
SECRETARIA ASOCIADA,
Asociación General de ASD
La Dra. Rosa María Taylor Banks, quien porta
credencial de Ministro Comisionado, ha sido
empleada de la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día
durante 40 años. Prestó sus servicios en Oakwood
College por 22 años, como profesora, jefa de
departamento, asistente ejecutiva del presidente,
vicepresidente de Administración y Desarrollo (en
este último cargo fue la primera mujer en calidad
del mismo).
En 1989 recibió un llamado de la Asociación
General de los Adventistas del Séptimo Día para
ser la primera mujer en el cargo de Secretaria de
Campo y directora de Relaciones Humanas. En 1990, su oficina fue transferida a la
División Norteamericana en donde ha prestado sus servicios durante 16 años.
Cuando fue directora de Relaciones Humanas, ayudó a crear Ministerio de la Mujer
y Ministerio en favor de Discapacitados, además de once reglamentos y pautas para
la Iglesia que fueron aprobados en concilios anuales y sesiones de fin de año.
Su elección como secretaria asociada de la División Norteamericana en 1990 la
distinguió como la primera mujer en ese cargo en tal División. En el 2005 fue elegida
como secretaria asociada de la Asociación General, siendo la primera mujer en esa
posición en la iglesia a través de sus 142 años de historia. En su posición actual,
presta sus servicios como enlace secretarial entre la Asociación General y dos
divisiones africanas: la División de África Central Occidental y la División de África
Central Oriental, que cubren 32 países y en donde residen más de tres millones de
adventistas. Coordina también el programa de atención de misioneros y recluta y se
relaciona directamente con unos 150 misioneros.
Es autora, elaboradora de reglamentos, presentadora de seminarios y talleres de
trabajo, fue presidenta de Operation ReachBack y fue también tesorera del Concilio
sobre Servicio y Liderazgo. Está casada con Halsey Banks. Tienen tres hijos adultos
–Kevin, Karmala y Marcellus, además de cinco nietas Keanna, Kai, Faith, Shona y
Phoenix. Son miembros de la Iglesia Adventista de Mitchellville.

SRA. RAQUEL COSTA ARRAIS
DIRECTORA ASOCIADA DE MINISTERIO DE LA
MUJER DE LA ASOCIACIÓN GENERAL
Raquel Queiroz da Costa Arrais ocupa
actualmente la posición de directora asociada de
Ministerio de la Mujer de la Asociación General.
Raquel es esposa del Pastor Jonas Arrais,
secretario asociado de la Secretaría Ministerial de
la Asociación General. Tienen dos hijos: Tiago y
Andre, y una nuera: Paula. Raquel se crió en un
hogar pastoral y es adventista de tercera
generación.
Antes de llegar a la asociación, era la directora
asociada de Ministerio de la Mujer y SIEMA en la
División Sudamericana (2000-2003) y directora
de Ministerio Infantil (2004-2005).
Durante veinte años, Raquel trabajó como educadora y administradora en Brasil. En
1997 obtuvo una Maestría en Ministerio Pastoral en la Universidad Andrews.
A Raquel le gusta leer, caminar, tocar el piano y coleccionar láminas de rostros de
mujeres. Disfruta el pasar tiempo con mujeres, ministrarlas y aprender de ellas.
Su deseo es ver a más mujeres aceptar el llamado de Dios e involucrarse en la misión
de la iglesia.
Su palabra favorita es valor y su texto favorito es Josué 1:9.

La Srita. Parker labora en la Oficina de Consejo
General de la Asociación General como asociada
de la misma, con énfasis en las áreas de leyes
laborales y propiedad intelectual para la
Asociación General y otras entidades de la iglesia.
Antes de unirse a la Oficina de Consejo General,
la Srita. Parker era asociada en una firma legal de
trabajo y empleo en Washington, D.C., en donde
su práctica principal se refería a litigaciones
laborales y leyes sobre recursos humanos. Antes
de asistir a la escuela de leyes, fue alumna de
Columbia Union College, en Takoma Park,
Maryland. En 1994 se graduó cum laude con una
licenciatura en Inglés y créditos en Psicología. En el 2002 graduó de la Escuela de
Leyes de la Universidad George Washington. Es miembro de la barra de abogados
de Maryland y el Distrito de Columbia, de la Suprema Corte de Estados Unidos; del
Cuarto Circuito de la Corte de Apelación de los Estados Unidos y de las Cortes
Distritales de Maryland y Columbia. Vive con su familia en el área metropolitana de
Washington.

En 1995, Kathleen H. Liwidjaja-Kuntaraf fue
llamada a trabajar en las oficinas de la Asociación
General como directora asociada de Prevención.
Fue promovida y ha coordinado programas de
entrenamiento sobre estilo de vida saludable en
varios lugares y países, incluyendo Australia,
Bangladesh, Bahamas, Bermuda, Bostwana,
Brasil, Canadá, China, Colombo, Costa de Marfil,
Inglaterra, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japón, Corea,
Kenya, Madagascar, Malasia, Miramar, Holanda,
Papua -Nueva Guinea, Filipinas, Rumania, Rusia,
Singapur, Slovenia, Ucrania, Estados Unidos y
Zimbabwe.
Antes de ocupar su posición actual, Kathleen trabajó hasta 1978 en el Hospital
Medan y el Hospital Bandung, ambos adventistas. Luego se mudó a Singapur con
su esposo, su hijo y su hija, donde fue directora asistente de ADRA y más tarde
directora del Departamento de Salud de la División del Lejano Oriente.

DIRECTORA DE MINISTERIO INFANTIL,
Asociación General de ASD
Linda nació y se crió en Singapur. Antes de su
llamado al Ministerio Infantil de la Asociación
General, fue directora de Ministerio Infantil, de la
Familia y de la Mujer en la División Sudasiática del
Pacífico, con sede en las Filipinas. Obtuvo su
doctorado en Psicología Educativa y Consejería en
la Universidad de Andrews, contando para
entonces con 24 años de experiencia en la
enseñanza, desde el nivel elemental hasta el
universitario.
La Dra. Koh está casada y tiene dos hijos adultos
y tres nietos. Gusta especialmente de los niños y
de personas de toda ocupación involucradas en actividades que la pongan en
contacto con ellos. Además de su ocupado programa de trabajo, presta sus servicios
como persona recurso de varias organizaciones profesionales, dicta seminarios y
pláticas sobre desarrollo infantil, labor de padres y relaciones familiares. Escribe para
varias revistas en Singapur, para la Revista Adventista, Mundo Adventista, Revista
del Anciano y otras publicaciones de la iglesia.

SRA. CARLA BAKER
DIRECTORA DE MINISTERIO DE LA MUJER,
de la División Norteamericana
Carla Baker es la directora de Ministerio de la
Mujer de la División Norteamericana.
Anteriormente prestó sus servicios durante nueve
años como directora de Ministerio de la Mujer,
tanto de unión como de iglesia local. Comenzó su
carrera en la denominación como maestra de
escuela y ha sido asistente administrativa
y también correctora y gerente de propaganda de
una revista de unión.
Sus áreas de interés dentro de Ministerio de
la Mujer incluyen traer de nuevo a la iglesia
a miembros inactivos, ministerio a favor
de adolescentes y prevención y educación sobre
el abuso.

DRA. MYRNA COSTA
RECTORA DE LA,
Universidad Adventista de las Antillas
Myrna Costa nació en Humacao, Puerto Rico. Sus
padres, Julio Costa y Provi Vélez formaron parte de los
pioneros y fundadores de la Iglesia Adventista del
Séptimo-Día en su pueblo natal. Myrna está casada con
Juan José Casado y tienen dos hijas las cuales estudian
en la Walla Walla University: Amaris e Idida.
Durante su juventud, la Dra. Costa quería ser una
misionera, así que comenzó sus estudios en Antillian
College, ahora Universidad Adventista de las Antillas. Los
años pasaron y su deseo de trabajar para su Dios en una
tierra lejana, se quedó en espera. Myrna completó su
Bachillerato en Educación Elemental en el Atlantic Union
College y luego se fue a La Sierra University para obtener
su grado de Maestría. Después de graduación, La Sierra le ofreció la posición de Directora de
Admisiones.
Continuó sus estudios mientras trabajaba a tiempo completo y obtuvo su Doctorado en
Educación en Administración y Liderazgo en el 1995. Después de 19 años de trabajar en La
Sierra, la Conferencia General le hizo un llamado para ser misionera, nada mas y nada menos
que, en la Universidad Adventista de las Antillas. Su sueño para ser misionera finalmente llegó
a ser una realidad. ¡Dios quería que trabajase para El, en su propia tierra! "Ha sido un privilegio y
un honor para mí trabajar en la institución educativa donde, por primera vez, decidí dedicar mi
vida a la educación Adventista y a mi Señor", dice Myrna.
El Señor ha bendecido el liderazgo de la Dra. Costa. UAA ha crecido, de los 719 estudiantes
en el 2001 cuando la Junta de Síndicos la nombró para ser la decimocuarta Presidenta de la
UAA, a 1,007 estudiantes matriculados este último semestre. "A Dios sea la Gloria", a menudo
se escucha Myrna decir. Ella está bien convencida en que todo lo podemos en Cristo que nos
fortalece y ha dedicado los talentos que Dios le ha dado para mejorar todo aquello con lo cuál
entra en contacto, con Dios a su lado. Cuando se le pregunta, ella dice que su objetivo profesional
es de planificar desafíos y, con Dios a su lado, lograrlos y tener éxito.
Bajo su liderazgo, la UAA ha experimentado varias acreditaciones y ha obtenido las
calificaciones más altas que otorga la Middle States Association, la Liga Nacional de Enfermería,
el Concilio de Educación de Puerto Rico y la Asociación de Acreditación Adventista. Actualmente,
la UAA está construyendo una residencia de tres pisos para 400 señoritas después de haber
construido un edificio de dos pisos y de 20,000 pies cuadrados como Laboratorio de Idiomas y
Ciencias. Muchas mejoras a la infraestructura, al área académica, sus programas y grados y a
los servicios al estudiantado se notan a través del recinto.
Recientemente, la Dra. Costa solicitó a la Junta de Síndicos que se nombrara al primer
Vicepresidente para Asuntos Religiosos en los 50 años de historia de la UAA, y le fue otorgado.
Dios es primero en la vida de Myrna. "La UAA se mira bastante diferente comparándola a lo que
era cuando yo estudié aquí", ella dice. Y añade: "A Dios sea la Gloria".

Heather-Dawn Small presently holds the position
of director for Women’s Ministries at the
General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists®.
Heather-Dawn is the wife of Pastor Joseph Small
and the mother of a daughter Dalonne who is 25
years old and a son Jerard, who is 18 years old.
Prior to coming to the General Conference in 2001
she held the position of Children’s and Women’s
Ministries Director for the Caribbean Union
Conference located on the twin island republic of
Trinidad and Tobago for five years.

Heather-Dawn loves air travel, reading, embroidery, scrapbooking, and stamp
collecting and she enjoys ministry to women. As she travels the world she has three
passions - to see more women involved in evangelism, to encourage women to be

God has given her in spite of life’s many challenges. Her favorite word is “JOY” and
her favorite saying is “Don’t let anyone steal your joy.”

Andrews and the mother of three adult sons.
Presently she serves as Director of Women’s &
Children’s Ministries in the Caribbean Union of
Seventh-day Adventists. Her life’s motto is

DU PRÉSIDENT
Chères collègues,
Comme toujours, la Division Interaméricaine est au premier plan quand il s’agit de
bénéficier de la participation de ses précieux membres dans l’administration et la
direction de l’Église, quels que soient leur ethnie, sexe et niveaux d’étude. Il n’y a ni
limite, ni restriction, selon les lignes directrices de l’Église et tous ceux qui ont reçu
l’appel à servir, sont bienvenus à participer à part entière à sa mission.
Nous ne pouvons pas nous permettre le luxe d’exclure le plus grand segment de
l’Église, en nous basant sur le sexe et autres facteurs sociaux discriminatoires. Si
nous nous le permettions, l’Église serait celle qui y perdrait le plus et les bénédictions
qui auraient pu alors être abondantes, ne le seraient pas.
Cette rencontre est organisée en particulier pour célébrer l’œuvre que mènent les
nombreuses dirigeantes, dans la Division Interaméricaine, dont les dons, talents et
dévouement sont précieux. Nous sommes fiers de reconnaître que les dirigeantes
de notre Division, peuvent avoir le sentiment d’être « l’Église » et non d’en « faire
partie » simplement. Le fait de « faire partie » donne l’impression de ne pas

ou de ne pas vous permettre de participer. Vous êtes l’Église et en tant que telle,
vous devez connaître la joie et la satisfaction de servir.
Les bénédictions qu’ont été les dirigeantes à l’Église de la Division Interaméricaine,
sont un tribu au fait que chaque membre de la Division, qu’il soit homme ou femme,
a le privilège de contribuer à l’avancement de l’Église.
Vous êtes une bénédiction car, de bien des manières, vous apportez des
perspectives, des points de vue, à l’administration, qui auraient pu autrement être
ignorés. Cela est apprécié et valorisé. En conséquence, l’administration de la Division
Interaméricaine apprécie en particulier votre participation active et dévouée à la
mission de l’Église et veut, par ce geste de gratitude, vous assurer une fois de plus
que nous nous engageons à vous assister dans tout ce que nous pouvons, afin que
vous trouviez une grande satisfaction à servir le Roi.
Nous vous remercions d’avoir accepté cette invitation ; que la Division soit une
meilleure organisation à cause de vos ministère et service !

DE LA DIRECTRICE
Chères collègues,
Et voilà ! Une rencontre des dirigeantes de la Division Interaméricaine ! Cette
rencontre qui a lieu au début d’une nouvelle décennie, n’est pas une réunion
ordinaire. La Rencontre des dirigeantes 2010, ne donne pas uniquement l’occasion
d’échanger des idées et de partager des rêves de femmes.
Nous voulons faire une grande différence durant cette décennie. Nous ne pouvons
pas nous immobiliser sur nos victoires passées. Nous devons entrer sur la pointe
des pieds vers un avenir riche en expériences – bien au delà de notre présent vers
un horizon impressionnant – l’idéal de Dieu pour ses enfants.
Je souhaite qu’à cette rencontre, la motivation des présentations, la chaleur de nos
contacts, nos rires mêlés à nos pleurs, soient couplés de nos prières implorant le
Seigneur. Ainsi, nous, les femmes de la Division Interaméricaine, nous irons au delà
de notre thème qui est de faire une grande différence, pour progresser vers un
modèle de « piété, à l’image de Jésus, le but à atteindre ».
