What has been happening this week?
Welcome to the new style e-bulletin, a shape of things to come
on a fortnightly basis going forward. With the launch of our
social media profile on twitter and facebook at the beginning of
the academic year we are only now beginning to see what a staggering array of events are going on in Dubai College on a daily
basis. As such, a six-week gap will be too long between updates.

Since our last e-bulletin at the start of the year students
from Years 10-13 played host to former US Ambassador to
Egypt, David Welch, in a frank and honest appraisal of global
politics which really put everything else into perspective. A
select band of music officiandos were treated to a thoroughly
engaging performance by the Princeton Tigertones, the 65
year old acapella group from the top US university. The Music

department also opened this year’s Emirates Literary Festival
performing ‘Sands of Time’ by composer Jason Kouckak.
Rehearsals for ‘The Odyssey’ are coming on apace in Drama
aided no doubt by the visit of UK playwright Mark Wheeller for
a day long workshop. I thoroughly recommend you take a look
at the latest artworks of the week in our new flickr account and
also pay close attention to the latest round of league topping
results from our sports teams which can be found at
www.dcsport.org In terms of academics it is worth noting
that almost all remarks have now been processed and we can
celebrate the exemplary success of Oliver Dyson, Sakshi Gupta,
James Lemon and Emma Taylor who scored 11 A*s grades each

Karan Nair, Rohan Padmanabhan and Jyoti Singh who each
scored 4 A* grades at A2 in the examinations taken this year.

What’s in a qualification?
As the university application season is in full swing and primary school parents are weighing up
their options for secondary school now is an opportune moment to reflect upon which type of
qualification serves our children best. There are a whole host of considerations which parents
