CALIPH'S SLATE
Dear Fellow Bedouins,
Here we go, another month
down. February is already here
and gone. We all should be
commended for our support of
Moslah, we had 85 people at
the Valentines dance, we had a
great time and then we had our Bedouins 1001 Nights
dance the following week. Boy, what a time we had, I
have to say that in a movie someone once said, if you
build it they will come, well, we built it and you all
came, and you all made it a great success. I would
like to thank each and every one of you for going on a
Bedouin's adventure with us. You all came with wonderful attitudes, and your willingness to try something
new made this party a success. I would like to thank
my lady Dee for the great decorating ideas. I would
also like to thank all that assisted in making this party
happen starting with Kenny and Ellen Beck our entrainment
chair, our hosts Gerald and Marie
Ledbetter, Harold and Mabel Benefield, AI and Joyce
Griner, Johnnie and Vicki Wallace, and Ken and
Jimmy Kaye Mattoon. I would also like to thank Jeff
and Laura Geyer, Susan Wallach, Dustin, and Leslie.
I am sure I am forgetting someone, so if I did, I apologize and thanks.
The band practices are now every Tuesday, and we
are already sounding good. The band has been practicing both in sections and as a group, which is will
help Jerry identify who needs his attention. The practices are being held at 6:30 every Tuesday night except stated meeting night. On that night, the practice
is held at 6:00 PM.
Moslah is requesting our best estimate of the number Bedouins that wilL be attending TSA in Amarillo.
We are working on the Hotel rooms and need to make
sure we are covered. So if you want to go, please let
me or one of the officers know as soon as possible.
Be advised that the final "rooming list" is to be completed and returned to the Shrine Office no later than
Monday March 21, 2011 because our "cut-off' date
with the Hotels is March 31, 2011 and any unassigned
rooms will be released at that time.
As usual, if you need any information or, if I can help
you in anyway, use the contact information below.

Thought the official Circus
Ad Sales Campaign
for
2011 has not started yet?
It is never too early to start
planning
our
personal
strategy for selling.
A young man asked a successful
salesman
for the secret of his success in selling. Te
salesman
said, "You just have to jump at
every opportunity
that comes along." The
young man asked how he would know an opportunity
was coming.
The salesman
responded, "You can't. You have to keep jumping."
And so it is with circus ad sales. To be effective you must jump at every opportunity:
the
barber, the plumber, the mechanic, the HV/AC
repair person, the restaurateur,
etc. Every
person is an opportunity. While the Circus Ad
Sales Campaign has not officially started for
the Temple, it has unofficially started for the
Bedouins. As you meet people start talking
about the circus and ask for the opportunity to
talk
to them
when
the
campaign
has
"officially" started. You will be surprised how
many will give you permission to return and
make a formal presentation.
Be sure to make
a list of those potential customers so you will
know who to talk to later.
We had a great response last year
well rewarded for it with our Circus
Commission Check. Let's do it again

"The Eyes of March" are
upon us." Don't know what
that means, but thought it
was cute. I guess it could
mean it is time to apply the
effort and dediCation, we are
known for, and get ready for
is
ahead.
The February Party, "1001 Bedouin Nights", was
outstanding. Moe and his committee did a masterful job, which brings us to, "it all takes
money". So far, about one-half of our membership has paid their Dues and Assessments. You,
that are reading this, probably have paid, so
maybe we need to mention it to our "Buds", pals
and
brothers
that
may
not
read
this.
March is important to start really practicing and
developing the way we will play our routine, both
phrasing and note wise. Please attend rehearsals regularly and call those that are not there and
encourage them to "come on down". We need
everyone,
to
attend.
TSA Mid-Winter is April 1-3. Mid-Winter is a
good time to get away and fellowship with, not
only Moslah Bedouins, but Bedouins from around
the state, with no pressure of competition. Moe
will be leading us to Amarillo, and as always,
plans for "His" B.edouins to have a great time.
Lastly, the Hospital Fund Drive (HFD) Gala is on
March 26th. Our kids are depending on the monies we raise from this. Please, help anyway you
can. Volunteers are needed as well as articles
for bidding. Moe and Dee can tell you where to
bring your articles for bidding and Bill and Beth
Conn are in charge of Volunteers. All your help is
greatly appreciated.
Fraternally yours, Kenny Mattoon

STORE FRONT & STREET
CORNERS INFORMATION
CORNER
I know it may seem a little
early 'to start thinking
about our Store Front and
Street
Corner
Assignments, but the time is
really starting to fly.
I
don't need to tell any of you how important it
is to OUR Hospitals that each and every one
of us do OUR part on the HFD Collection
Weekend. On May 6 and 7 the Bedouins will
be at a NEW WAL MART!!! That's right guys
we are moving to the brand new Walmart
Store in Benbrook Texas.
The address is
8840 Benbrook blvd (hwy377). On Saturday
May 7 the Bedouins will be working our usual
Street Corners. I have included the assignments for all venues so that you can all plan
accordingly. There are some changes in the
assignments that we have been used to but
that is because of our changing Unit. If you
have any problems with your assignment
please feel free to give me a call. There will
be NO SHIFTS on the Street Corners. The
HFD comes only once a year and it is your
Obligation as a Shriner and a Bedouin so
please keep this very important date open.
As your HFD Chairman I expect 100% support in this assignment, as I know you all will.
I look forward to another record setting year
for the Bedouins and would like to congratulate you all in advance for your support and
hard work.

The Importance Of Wearing "MY" Fez
'!', " '
One of the most widely recognized symbols in all of Shrinedom is the red fez. My ".'
'. ~
Shrine fez, adopted by the Shrine's founders in 1872, has become synonymous \~~';~
)
with all that is good and noble in our great fraternity and its support of the
' roo, >
'World's Greatest Philanthropy," Shriners Hospitals for Children.
That distinctive hat with the
black tassel is what people recognize when they see Shriners on parade - it's the red fez that
tells people that they are watching not just any parade, but a Shriners parade!
Because the Shrine's identity and community recognition and support are vitally important to my fraternity's
very existence, I must remember that the fez helps to strengthen the public's recognition of the Shrine and its
association with Shriners Hospitals. The benefits of this association are far reaching and can assist the fraternity in areas such as fund raising, patient recruitment and membership.
The wearing of my fez is a simple and effective means of gaining valuable exposure for our fraternity and
it's philanthropy. The donning of my fez could mean the difference between a potential donor making a gift to
Shriners Hospitals, or to another charity. It could mean that a young man might take the time to find out how
he can become a Shriner, or it could even mean that a child's parents, after seeing my fez and the good work
behind it, may learn about Shriners Hospitals and how our hospitals can help their child.
The next time I attend a Shrine function, and I reach for a baseball cap or some other type of hat, I must
stop and think of the children who may miss an opportunity for treatment at one of our world-renowned Shriners Hospitals, or the donation that Shriners Hospitals might not receive, or even the potential member who
might never know the benefits of Shrine membership.
When I wear my fez, I must not forget about the protocol associated with this important symbol. Temple Officers, members of Shrine Clubs and Units and appointees of the Imperial Potentate and Potentate may have
their title embroidered in gold or silver or in rhinestone jewels on one line beneath the emblem, and not more
than two pins or clasps may be used to secure the tassel. No other pins or adornments of any kind will be
permitted to be worn on my fez.
The Shrine has an long and honorable past, with much to be proud of, and my Shrine fez is an important
part of our history. I must remember to wear my fez and make that distinctive symbol of Shrinedom a part of
the future.
The wearing of my fez will help gain valuable exposure for the Shrine's philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for
Children. Perhaps a child's parents, after seeing my fez, may approach me asking for help for their child ....
you never know!
My Shrine fez, proudly worn at most Shrine functions, will help strengthen the public's recognition of my
great fraternity, and perhaps entice other men to inquire about membership.
Let's not forget ASOB Imperial to be held in downtown
Denver, Colorado.
