NEW NAME – NEW SERVICE – NEW VISION
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
As friends of the Center, we want you to be among the first to
know that we are expanding our community of care to include
those who suffer from other neurological problems that can be
helped with the same attention and care we now provide for
stroke and TBI survivors.
“Everyday Heroes”
Celebrating the 15111 hours of service in our last fiscal year, our
volunteers are responsible for an in-kind equivalent donation of
over $300,000. We enjoyed an afternoon at Cello’s for many of
our loyal helpers and were pleased to single out special honors
for those who have passed milestones this year. We look forward
to many more years as we grow and develop the Neuro Vitality
Center.
New Name – New Services: The new, expanded facility is called, the NEURO VITALITY CENTER (NVC) to encompass our signature Stroke and TBI programs
plus new neurological programs for Parkinson’s Disease and
Multiple Sclerosis.
At the NEURO VITALITY CENTER (NVC), our dedicated team will
ensure that specially designed programs for other neurological
challenges operate with the same degree of effectiveness and
caring that has been our signature for Stroke and TBI survivors
for over 35 years. We will utilize our expertise to bring the rich
community experience to patients and families of those who need
help… bringing survivors together.
New Vision:
The NEURO VITALITY CENTER (NVC) is committed to specific
evidence based programs and therapies that reconnect people to
a vital, engaging, and positive life, expanding our vision beyond
stroke and TBI to neuro disorders that may value from continued
therapies.
Everything you admire and support at the Stroke Recovery Center
will still be found here….plus a lot more. Visit our new web site:
www.neurovitalitycenter.org
And stay tuned for more developments through-out the year.

CSHA AWARD
After 11 years as the President
of the Board, Stan Hack has
turned over the reins to Robert “Bob” Fey. Bob will pick
up from Stan’s long support
of the Center and help guide
us forward as we expand our
purpose and our vision to
encompass other neurological disorders and other like
minded providers of care to
this underserved population of
neighbors.
We also welcome new Board Members Stephen Abouaf and
Barry Kaufman. Stephen is a retired businessman who resides in
Indian Wells and an active volunteer with SCORE. Barry lives in
Indio and is active on a number of charitable boards with causes
from seniors to animals to behavioral health.
These two gentlemen join our most recent new members Angie
Gerber, Charles “Chuck” Hilliar, Jamie Kabler, Leisa Austin and
Leslie Giesemann, M. D.
We are sorry to have to acknowledge the passing our member of
the Board of Directors and volunteer, Harvey Gerber. Harvey was
a client favorite at his RAP sessions. We will miss his spirit and
commitment.
The California Speech-Language-Hearing Association awarded
the Stroke Recovery Center PROGRAM OF THE YEAR AWARD.
This honor is given to outstanding speech therapy programs in
the state once a year at their annual conference. Accepting for
us was Mary Sinclair who through her hours of selfless volunteer
work has helped to build our program to this exceptional level.
Congratulations go out to Mary and Jennifer for their award winning work here at the center. Visit our website: neurovitialitycenter.org to view the video made just about us.
Additionally, we mourn the passing of Donald Davis, the only man
on the all women Board of the Auxiliary. Don worked hard to help
the auxiliary both fund raise and friend raise.
Julie Copeland Award
The Champions Volunteer Foundation has awarded Stroke Recovery Center the 2014 Julie Copeland Award, which was presented to
us on the final Sunday (March 22nd) of the BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament. This is awarded once a year to an outstanding charity
here in the Coachella Valley by the devoted volunteers to the tennis tournament. They have been strong annual supporters for years
but this year is extra special for us. We appreciate the understanding of the good service to community and the recognition the Champions have honored us with this year.
