Another year – another job well done!
The cabinet cannot thank the volunteers enough for the effort
put into this year’s Chow Mein Dinner.
And you were there early on Sunday to cook the rice, shrimp
and chow mein (which happens to be the best I’ve ever tasted) and serve the masses that came through the doors.
You peeled shrimp on Friday night (610 pounds)!! Some of
you had quite the drive.
The BJAA would like to thank Adams County for their cooperation in helping us coordinate the facilities and equipment that we use, making sure we have everything we need
for the weekend.
The BJAA would also like to thank the suppliers that generously give their time and donations to make this community
event something to be proud of. And special thanks to Ron
for keeping the wheels on the bus, driving us in the right
direction, listening to all the noisy passengers and keeping
that smile on his face all day.
You came out on Saturday to chop the mushrooms, prepare the
garnish, set up the stoves, package the takeout/dine in goodies,
make the salad, prepare lunch for the hungry workers and all
those other behind the scene jobs that make Sunday work.
So pat yourselves on the back – we served a total of 2,517
dinners and you have a whole year to recuperate. Save
March 24th for next year’s event.
For more pictures, please go to our website http://bjaa.org/
I hope you will join us on April 27th at 6:00 for our pot luck
game night at the Brighton Senior Center. A time for games
and laughs and of course food.
Again thank you!

Congressional Gold Medal Recipients
to be Honored
By Gary Yamashita
The Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation is dedicating
this year’s 66th Annual Community Memorial Day Service at Fairmount Cemetery to honor the recent recipients
of the Congressional Gold Medal. The program will pay
special tribute to the members of the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service. In addition, the Memorial Day
program will serve to honor the memory of all Japanese
American Veterans from the Rocky Mountain Region
who honorably served in the United States Armed Forces
and are now at rest.
This year’s service will be held on Memorial Day, May
28th at 11:00 AM at the Nisei War Memorial located at
Fairmount Cemetery. The keynote speaker will be 9News
anchor, Adele Arakawa who will share her experience
when she attended the medal award ceremony in Washington DC in November of last year.
Local area recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal
and the families of deceased recipients will be the special
honored guests of the Nisei Veterans Heritage Foundation and will be asked to present a special floral tribute at
the Nisei War Memorial Wall. In addition, the Foundation has generously agreed to pay for the cost of a replica
Congressional Gold Medal for all living recipients or a
surviving relative of a deceased recipient that attends the
ceremony.
We are asking that anyone that served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team or the
Military Intelligence Service or surviving relatives of
deceased members, please contact the following committee members to RSVP to attend the service: Gayle Goto at 303-594-5839, [email protected] , or Jamie
Chikuma at 303-525-0429, [email protected].
Please join us in paying tribute to these veterans that
served our country so honorably and sacrificed so much
for us all. This is truly a community event to thank them
all for their service.
